Bluegreen Resorts Reviews

High Pressure "Soft Sale"
We just returned from Bluegreen Club 36 in Las Vegas. We knew it was a timeshare pitch when we signed up. We had the privilege of staying on the property. My husband and I loved the room. It was beautifully set-up with a living room, dining area, mini kitchen and large bathroom. The people that worked the front desk were friendly and inviting. The only downfall came when we attended the 90 minute presentation which lasted 3 hrs and 45 mins. They started off with a comedian who was very funny and informative (best part of the presentation). We were given a young man who said he was new (which according to the posts seems to be a theme). He was quite nice though. However once we were presented with the 20, 000 point plan for $32K, we said no. Then it went to 8, 000 pts for $9, 900 to finally a two year 12, 000 point plan for $3K. We were adament that we would not sign up for a vacation program because we had two high school graduates starting college in the fall. The "supervisor" flat out told us that we could afford it. When initially presented with the $32K plan, my husband said that he would not pay $500 a month, maybe half that would be better. However after discussing it alone, we agreed to pass altogether. Mr. Supervisor said "when you said you could afford half of the $500 monthly payment, what happened to that... were you lying?" The "soft sale" became very hard. Honestly, the only option is to just get up and walk out. These pressure sales rely on the fact that many people are raised to be polite and won't tell them to just shove it. Finally the young man in his continued attempt to "sell us", he said "You can always make more money, but you can't buy more time." I interrupted him and said, "You are exactly correct and that's why I don't want to waste anymore here. I want this to be over NOW."

All that being said, it was a nice facility and 3 days in Vegas. All the people were not bad. Even though they told us the facility in Vegas was for owners only, we found online that you can rent a room there for a hellva lot less than $32K for 10 years At 17% interest.

VERY Shady Operators
We attended a Bluegreen presentation in Myrtle Beach SC. The initial presenter and the sales staff were very personable. We own three weeks of timeshare, and decided for a couple of reasons to add a fourth. Big mistake.

Upon returning to our condo, I decided for the sake of safety to research some of the claims made by their staff. The had lied in the presentation on at least two important points. Based on that, we cancelled the purchase. I just received our refund check today, and guess what, it was $65 short of the the correct amount.

I should have been more wary when we had to acknowledge not once, but TWICE in the closing that Bluegreen does not stand behind ANY statements made by their sales staff during the sales presentation. I'd never seen a disclaimer like that before in ANY type of purchasing, even used cars! LOL

The dealbreaker for us is that they made a point no fewer than three times of promising in the sales presentation that they had NEVER had a special assessment charged to owners, and never would. I found out quickly with a minimum of Google effort that the very Monday of the week we attended their presentation on the following Thursday, they had a special assessment at one of the properties of no less than $1600. I found further record of at least two other recent special assessments. To compare, at our primary property, where we have owned for 24 years, we have indeed had zero special assessments, and two hurricanes have breezed by it in those years.

By the way, the "Free Cruise" that we were given to attend the presentation is not free at all. We later learned that it costs a minimum of $200 per person, and the costs can go up from there.

These guys wouldn't know the truth if it bit them HARD upon the ***. Do NOT agree to go to their sales presentations, and definitely DO NOT buy anything from them. You'll be sorry.

Scam
I've started a Facebook page in the hopes of starting a class action lawsuit like the one in Pennsylvania. Were you lied to at your sales pitch? Join the movement to get a class action lawsuit going. http://www.facebook.com/home.php?sk=group_180578055325962

No matter what the contract says the sales pitch must be honest or it is ILLEGAL! End of story. It’s not the fault of the consumer who has been swindled. Christmas mountain sales staff makes the characters of Glengarry Glen Ross look like saints. Deceptive sales practice are also illegal in most states.

Federally it is illegal to engage in deceptive sales practices. A sale is deceptive if it.

1. Represents that goods or services have sponsorship, approval, characteristics, ingredients, uses, benefits, or qualities that they do not have. (How many were convinces they would receive some service they did not receive? The ability to rent points via blue greens web page.)

2. Represents that goods or services are of particular standard, quality, or grade, or that goods are of particular style or model, if they are of another. (How many were shown the cleanest and best unit only to find that all the other units are not as nice)

3. Disparages the goods, services, or business of another by false or misleading misrepresentation of fact (How many were told how that “other” time share was so horrible?”)

4. Makes false or misleading statements of fact concerning the reasons for, existence of, or amounts of price reductions. (How many were told that there bonus weeks were being “thrown in” as a means to get them to buy. Every time you said no, they offered to throw in something that really came with every sale.)

5. Engages in any other conduct which similarly creates the likelihood of confusion or of misunderstanding. (How many knew exactly what they were getting from the sales pitch? Not the contract signing, but the sales pitch)

That's just to mention a few. If you had any of these happen to you, then BG broke federal law, The Uniform Deceptive Trade Practices Act, and most likely state laws as well. Furthermore the Pennsylvania judge ordered them to STOP.

I’ll be starting a Facebook page for people who want to join the class action law suit to go to. And taking out ads on face book to gather people. Alone you are just a swindled owner. United we can bring a case all the way to the federal level.

Lied to us in order sell points
In July of 2008, we took our grandkids to Laurel Crest, a Bluegreen Resort. We had 15, 000 points for every 2 years. On July 8th, 2008, we met with Ken and Jeannie, two Bluegreen representatives selling additional points. Both Jeannie and Ken promised us that if we bought into 12, 000 points for every year, the first year we would also carry over our 15, 000 as they were getting ready to renew August 1st. They lied to us. We did not get the 15, 000 points. We paid $10k for the 12k annual points. In a phone call to Ken in September, he even acknowledged that he probably did tell us that but he was "sorry" it just didn't work out that way.

In addition to this, you cannot get your vacation when you want it with Bluegreen. It is a day of frustration to try to book any beach resort even if you try to go the 11 months out. I don't understand why Bluegreen is not under investigation for fraud. They are no better than the Pyramid scams that swindle people out of their money. For the $700. a year in maintenance fees you have to pay, you could almost go on a vacation to a resort and not have paid the up front $10k. This seems criminal to me. Let the Buyer Beware...

Ripoff
We were shopping at Bass Pro and was approached by a gentleman to buy a weekend package to Big Cedar in Branson. That sounded good until we tried to book and found out this was for during the week and not the weekend. Also the folks you call do not tell you that until you have called and booked a couple of two or three times. Not a reputable company in my opinion. BAD BUSINESS.The folks are friendly but they will not tell you the truth until you ask them for a refund. DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM THIS COMPANY.

Take mine, please
My husband and I bought into the Bluegreen resorts in 2005. For the first couple of years, it was nice. We actually upgraded our ownership to the Gold status, 30, 000 points a year. After that it has been all downhill. Maintenance fees have more than tripled. Resort quality has declined drastically. One example, we spent time in Orlando last summer, theoven in condo did not work correctly, electric sockets did not work, no cooking appliances/utensils in kitchen to speak of, not even a frying pan. They are giving free weeks to anyone who wants one, hence all kinds of riff raff in the pool area to the point I had to stay with my granddaughter in the pool, not just on the pool deck. Customer service is non-existant. If you are unhappy, they do not care. We are $40, 000 in the hole. Can't sell the thing, no one wants it.
Don't buy Bluegreen, and if you are not convinced, just take over the maintenance fees on mine, the mortgage is paid off. You can have it.

Closing resort for 1 year
Bluegreen at Club La Pension New Orleans, LA expecting Maintenance fees based on budget sent out in October 2010--Due January 1, 2011. On January 5, 2011 (after maintenance fees due) received letter saying were closing the resort down for a year and were going to charge a special assessment of $1584 per week. No billing for the special assessment and not budget.

Resort will be closed and have not issued a true budget for the maintenance fees just said the special assessment would be larger if they did not charge the maintenance fees. Charged another special assessment a few years ago. Damage then and now existed prior to June 2008 when Bluegeen and original Developer's heir entered into a deal, failed to preserve our timeshare records, etc., and are passing the costs on to the owners/consumers. If you are Bluegreen owner at Club La Pension, New Orleans or if you have similar experience with Bluegreen Contact [email protected] with your information. I and others are owners.

Dishonest company
My husband and I went to Peigon Forge for our Blue Green presentation. First of all we had to drive for miles to get to the Vistor Center to pick up our paper work. We got our paper work and I was excited to find out we were staying at Laurel Crest. This was until we open the front door to the room. Entered into the front door to find a double bed (I'm 6' tall and my husband is 6'3) with a window for everyone that walks by to look staight in. The bedding looked like something out of a Motel 6. The bathroom was so small that we had to take turns getting dressed (only the one mirrow in the bathroom). The bedroom was so small that the DOUBLE bed was right upside the wall. Just a disappointment.

We arrived 20 min. early for our 90 min. presentation and ended up being there for 3 hours. One of the first things we were told was that BG would not pressure us into buying anything. After 6 times of my husband telling them we didn't want to buy anything we were treated to a very rude saleman who had been nice up until our last no.

We explained to the salesman at the beginning that we were disappointed in the room and this room looked nothing like the rooms in the presentation. As a matter of fact Laurel Crest was not even shown in the presentation. And it is amazing how many packages they can pull out of their hat when to begin with you only have a few to choose from.

Hard company to do business with
I have been a Blue Green Member for about 8 years. We have used and enjoed the accomadations successfuly. However, I lost my job a year and a half ago. We still continued to struggle and pay the monthly payment. We have now gotten to a point where we can't afford it and also live day to day. So after two phone calls and a letter I was informed that they did not offer any help to modify or refinance the mortgage. Iask the Non-customer service rep what my choices were, and they said stop pamking the payments and it will foreclose on you. Now if and when I do stop the payments it will ruin my credit for several years. They are a trap and horrible to do business with.
