Hunter Warfield Reviews

Valid Debt? No paperwork or notice received from the apartment complex
I keep getting calls - had leased an apartment for my daughter. She moved out end of August, 2015 and I haven't seen any paperwork from the apartments indicating that I owe the amount the collection witch was asking for. Have sent several emails to the apartment and the management company. If they show me the documentation and verify that it's valid, then I will pay - but it is *just* over 30 days and without notice, I had no idea! The collection witch wouldn't give me the time of day, only the $$. No way to do business, especially if a debt is owed, I pay it. I'm glad I don't have to wake up every morning and put on a grumpy attitude.

Irrate Rudeness and Unauthorized Debits
I found out that I had been sent to collections by an apartment I use to reside in. An agreementwas made between myself and management that a paymet would be sent monthly unitl paod in full which was done. I mailed my usual payment to the apartment complex. After noticing the check had not been cleared via my account this is whenI began calling to follow-up on why they had not processed the payment and was shocked that I had been sent to Hunter Warfield collection agency. The check was mailed to Hunter Warfield from the apartment complex as an payment on my now account. After speaking with the first rude representative concerning my balance, I was told that I owed more than what I had to pay which I refused to pay them. The explanation fromt he rep was interest had accured on the account. As I attempted to speak with this rep he became very irrate and hung up the phone in my face. I then called management at the apartment complex concerning this balance and she had to call them and have them change the balance to the correct amount. I called the collection agency back and asked to speak with another rep which was willing to listen but it doesn't stop here. I was phoned on the next day by another rep which was a woman and she was very ride as well and did nit want to hear anything I had to say once again concerning this account. Can I say I was harrassed every day. I finally was called back by the first rude guy of a rep that I refused to speak with again prior to him already hanging up in my face when then his manager took over the call. The manager was rude as well, but I did make an agreement on what two days my balance would be paid in full but I only okayed for two final amounts to be debited from my checking account. The check that ws mailed to this collection agency was suppose to be mailed back to me per the rep stating that they did not accept check payments, but for some strange reason they lied and accepted my check which cleared my account plus debited my account two more times which they took too much money. Once this I hppened I have called them daily for a credit of my money and have not been able to talk to know one that seems to care or have a good attitude. Speaking with management at this place doesn't matter becasue it starts from the top of the chain, if management is rude then this is why majority of the reps are as well. This matter still has not been resolved.

Setting the record straight
To clarify the confusion between being a customer and a debtor. Here are the definitions of each. Customer - person, company, or other entity which buys goods and services produced by another person, company, or other entity. DEBTOR - is a person or entity that owes money. In other words, the debtor has a debt or legal obligation to pay an amount to another person or entity. Guess which category you guys fall under? Hint: Pssst. It's the one with the capital letters.

Rude Representative
Sadly, in today"s economy, a lot of us have fallen behind on something and are trying to make ends meet. So as I became aware that one of my debtors, had turned my case over to a collection agency, I called them right away. I do customer service work myself which sometimes deals with collecting money from people that don't have it, and trying to help with a payment arrangement. I always remember that those I talk to for the most part are folks just like me, and the way I handle them is as I would want to be handled. However my interaction with Lisa James, a collector for Hunter Warfield was appalling. As I tried to give and gain information, I was over talked and not listened to. I understand that she wasn't trying to be my friend, and I wasn't looking for her to be my friend. However I also wouldn't expect her to treat me as a second class citizen in the country I was born in, and she moved to. This isn't about her being from another country at this point, but come on. I would rather wait on them to hand it back over to a different collection group then to deal with these people. In fact she repeated to me several times, the information was in a letter, that they never sent me. I've been at this address for a year, and never got one notice from Hunter Warfield. That's a poor way to do business. To keep referring to a letter that I never received is shear stupidity, and she confirmed my address with me so I know that had it. As a small business owner myself I would never use them to collect any of my debts.

Verbally Abusive
I never received a letter stating I owed money to may last apartment complex. Five months after moving out I received a letter from Hunter Warfield stating that I owed a significant amount of money. I immediately sent them a letter stating that A) was completely unaware of this debt and B) I would like to make payment arrangements. I enclosed the letter and my first payment. I noticed the check had not been cashed. At the end of the next month I sent a second payment. That check was not cashed as well.
At the end of the second month I learned that my companys office in a another city had been receiving threatening phone calls from this company, however it is company policy that if you can not state why you are calling, you will not get past the secretary (Prevents unwanted sales calls and other nuissance calls). The secretary stated that the man began swearing and screaming at her when she asked what this matter was concerning (Standard question). To calm the situation she simply asked if I knew him which he then told her to get me on the Fu@%#$^ phone. She hung up.
The next day I received a letter, containing the two checks I sent in, stating that the payment was not authorized and that I should call. So I called. I was standing outside of the office where there is a lot of traffic noise. I couldn't hear the man at all, so I asked if he could please repeat what he said because I can't hear him. He kind of lost it started yelling, I still couldn't understand what he was saying. I asked him nicely to calm down and explained why I couldn't hear him that well. He was calm for a second until I told him I didn't understand why they would not except the payments, where once again instead of just saying "we don't except checks" (Which sounds really fishy to me) but we do take payments over the phone, he flipped out telling me I better give him my banking information or he's going to sue me. I want to pay this off but I would never give these guys my banking information! I just want an adult conversation, I understand their jobs are stressful but damn there is no need to freak out and be so defensive. I am sending them an cease and desists letter via certified mail so they will stop harrasing my poor secretary. Again, I want to pay this. Do you think instead of giving them my banking information it would be suitable to send them money orders?

Collection Attempt on a Former Apartment
I received a collection letter in the mail today from Hunter Warfield for an alleged collection on unpaid apartment rent. When I called to get details, I was told that the letter was sufficient detail. When I explained that I didn't know anything about the apartment being referenced (I've owned my own home for 20+ years), I was told that it was for an apartment that I co-signed for my son during college. When I further explained that I needed further details in writing before I'd ever write them a check for something that I knew none of the details about, I was told that I was admitting refusal to pay a debt. After attempting several more times to request additional details in writing and being interrupted each time, I hung up.

Seriously, who is going to write someone a check simply because they sent a letter with zero details?

rude associates, bad collection practices
I had an outstanding balance through a former apartment complex I lived at, Colony Village Apartments(run by Stephen D. Bell Properties)located in New Bern, NC, for carpet replacement and for cleaning costs/water bill(which I was told when I moved out that I had cleared out the cleaning costs/final water bill/prorated rent for that month). Colony Village then sent me this bill saying I had to pay for the replacement of carpet(which I was fine with as I knew it needed replacing) and for all these other costs which I was told had been paid at the time of move out. They them told me it was because the "final statement" of what I owed ran a month behind. This account was turned over 10 days later to Hunter Warfield, where they immediately start charging interest per day. I spoke to a few representatives in the past back in 2008, who were very rude and told me to stop being lazy and get off my a** and pay the bill. I explained that I couldn't afford to and would make payments as I could. I was hung up on. Well I received a settlement offer yesterday for half of the bill in the mail, in which I have 30 days(per the letter) to pay the settlement or make payment arrangements. I received a call today from Hunter Warfield demanding I setup some sort of payment arrangement today on the settlement, despite what the letter said, or they would mark the account as refusal to pay.I explained that I am unemployed and that we live off my husband's pay and I wouldn't be able to do anything til the 15th, upon which the rep began becoming rude, saying "well you've had since 2008, don't you think you should pay it now?!"Once he caught an attitude, I asked to speak with a supervisor. I was than transferred to the manager(Paul, I believe). He immediately demanded to know why I couldn't afford to pay the bill, when I told him I was unemployed and we live off my husband's income, he told me "oh, so you're just a housewife then" like I was some lowlife golddigger. I told him, no, I'm not just a housewife, I am a full time student and I didn't appreciate the manner in which he assumed I was a housewife and how he said it. I then proceeded to explain for the 4th time that I could not make any sort of payment today and that I didn't understand why they would send me a letter with the option of sending payment by mail or through their website, if they were going to call and demand it today or else they would mark the account as refusal to pay and have the company rescind the settlement offer. The Manager then proceeded to tell me I was being rude to him and that they had called in the past and that i yelled and cursed at their reps and refused to pay, I politely explained to him that I had sent off payments in the past only to have them "returned to sender" because their address was not valid and that it was rude of him to assume that I was refusing to pay or had not attempted to pay. He then yelled at me and said he didn't have time to argue scemantics with me and would go ahead and mark the account as refusal to pay and hung up on me. I called back and spoke to the recpetionist, who asked who I wanted to speak to and I told her to any customer service rep that was not going to hang up on me and be rude and treat me like crap. I then was transferred to Jerry, who was very polite and listened to my situation and proceeded to mark the account properly, noting that I would be settling the account around the 15th, no later than the 23rd. This company with the exception of TWO people is on whole, rude, mean and threatens to rescind settlements that are offered in writing before you could possibly even mail a payment to them. Horrible customer service. This company should be ashamed of how it treats people. They immediately treat you like you are the scum of the earth and that you're this lowlife that doesn't pay their bills. They don't care if you are unemployed and they don't listen to you at all. You're lucky to get a wird in edgewise and if you do, then you're the one being rude and belligerent. Don't know how these people can sleep at night. I would rather be a "housewife" then to do their job, since their job is apparently to demean, insult, harass and threaten people. Stay away from any apartment properties run by Stephen D. Bell too because apparently they neglect to tell you what you actually owe until the amount has already been sent to collections.

Threats of garnishment
I noticed a collection on my credit report from 5 years ago that said Hunter Warfield for a grand. Once I realized that it was from when I lived with an ex boyfriend in an apartment 5 years ago I called my ex first. It was for a b.s. carpet charge and last months rent. I recalled that our carpet wasn't even new when we moved in and that we WERE caught up on rent completely. HW bought a bad debt and also, my ex told me he went through a credit repair agency and had it not only disputed, but removed from his report.
I called HW back and the guy on the phone was one of thee most rude and condescending individuals I've ever spoken to. I told him they bought a bad debt, and I was disputing it. He said "Well you're in CA, a garnishable state, so I'll notify the debtor to go ahead and collect from your employer."
I said "You can't just threaten me for garnishment, I'm telling you, this is an INCORRECT debt. You're WRONG." I wish I had the conversation recorded, because a threat to garnish wages would completely set me free of all of this.
Now I'm signed on with WWW.LEXINGTONLAW.COM and we're working to get this out of my life. They've already deleted 2 items off my report completely and I guarantee these guys are next.

rude
I just called this company after finding a collection on my credit report for the first time, even though the debt is from 2 years ago... my roommates never paid their share of our last months rent plus late fees plus carpet fees etc... and now (only now) I am finding out about it. I have otherwise great credit and never miss payments. I paid my share of the rent but because we all signed the lease together I am responsible for this debt. So I call today to ask them how we fix this, the guy I spoke to was both condescending and rude, offered no help except to tell me to pay it in full myself and collect the money from the others because they can't get in touch with them. I told him I would not pay it by myself, they are equally responsible, he threatened me, told me I was wasting his time and hung up. I have never been treated so poorly by anyone, I never raised my voice and even offered to help him get their contact info to resolve this. These people should not be in business.
