Younger generations frequently consume packaged foods, frequent fast food restaurants, are mistake-averse, or simply do not want to learn how to cook. Previously, mothers would pass along this knowledge to their daughters or sons.

It is unfortunate that this skill is dwindling in popularity because cooking from scratch has so many advantages. The recent influx of cooking shows is slowing this loss of home-cooked food, but is it enough to reverse the trend?

HOME COOKING BEATS FAST FOOD FOR TASTE AND COST
Making food from scratch doesn't have to be terrifying. You follow a recipe and begin with fresh ingredients. Of course, you might not want to or have the time to produce everything you add from scratch.

You can use some of those items, but you shouldn't rely entirely on pre-made items because you will lose any advantages.

For instance, the majority of us do not grind our own coffee or churn our own butter. You can, but it's not required.

COST
Buying meals out either at fast food places or nice restaurants can be quite costly. It can make a huge dent in your budget and give you less disposable income for other things.

It is almost as expensive to buy all those precooked, processed and ready-to-eat packaged foods.

TASTE
Unless you frequent those fine dining places, you are not going to find a meal or fast food item that can compare with your own good cooking.

HEALTH
In addition to taste, you should not be surprised that home cooking can be healthier for you. You control everything that goes into your meal. You can choose to make something low fat, low cholesterol or contain less carbs. Nowadays, most people are concerned with eating better.
