Theft/poor customer service
Have had a wonderful experience until now! A few weeks ago I left my (awesome) therapist a much larger tip than usual only to find out that she never received it. I spoke to the owner and he said it wasn't his responsibility to make up for it - "it's not my policy" he claimed. I then asked why there was no disclaimer in my contract stating that massage envy was not responsible for making sure therapists received all tips that are handled by the front desk. His response -" well I'm not going to give her the 75$". So I said well then I'm canceling my contract and my mother will be here tomorrow to cancel hers and I'm going to start letting people know about "your policy". At this point the owner, Larry Ferguson literally through a childlike tantrum, yelling at me and stormed out of the room. I've never heard of any business owner conducting things this way!

Theft/ Poor Service
I had my first session yesterday. I came from work so I had my jewellery on. I decided to leave my diamond drop earrings in my ears because that was the safest place to be. (no safes or secure place to leave you belongings) During my uncomfortable massage, (after MANY times expressing that it was hurting me the therapist explained he was sorry but it was necessary to push his elbow in my spine to release the muscles) After some time he asked me to turn over. He began to raise my neck and turn it from side to side. At one point he was pulling on my ears to release the muscles in my neck (yes-I was an idiot and allowed this to go on)
In any event, my 45 min massage ended and I was told to dress. I dressed and left the salon appalled at how I was feeling. (Like I was in a fight and got stabbed in the back) While driving home I then realized one earring was missing. I called them to let them know I WAS SURE it was in the building, and as you may already guessed...it was not found.
That earring that I am sure my "therapist" pocketed was the pair I wore on my wedding day. There is no amount of money that could replace it. I wanted to make others aware of what happened to me so that if you too unfortunately are bound to 12 months of poor service, at least you will leave your valuables home before arriving.

Illegal use of Credit Card
A class action suit needs to be filed against Massage Envy!!!
I realize I am not alone in the Massage Envy nightmare. They promote relaxation, but this company will give you a headache, stressed you out and increase your blood pressure. I have a copy of the contract I purchased for my daughter and it clearly states "paid in full" effective date and a term date. I made sure I did not get involved with the month to month membership... or did I? This location continued to charge my credit card after the term date, which I was unaware of until 6 months later. When I noticed this, I quickly called the location and after several back and forth phone calls, the owner indicates "due to computer system limitations the best recourse is to have your daughter use the additional massages that have accumulated and we will give her 90 days". OK, fine, I agreed to this only to have peace and make this go away. Well... here we go again... The option to "freeze for 90 days" will then reactivate the "membership", which I NEVER signed for and have a copy of the contract, and began billing again. I had no idea this was happening until my 2011 credit card audit was conducted. The Clearwater Massage Envy location refuses to take ownership for THEIR error, so now I'm left with having to write a complaint where ever possible.
Next stop...BBB
THIS COMPANY IS UNETHICAL AND ILLEGALLY PROCESSES CONSUMERS CREDIT CARDS

Did not record appointment correctly
While paying for her current appointment at Massage Envy, my daughter reserved the double table room for 2/26 at the McMurray, PA location. When we arrived for our massages, we were advised by Cecelia (the same gal who logged in the 2/26 appointment) that the room was already in use and we could do two individual appointments about an hour apart but otherwise there was nothing they could do for us.

Cecelia had any number of reasons why our appointment was not in the system - computer problems, didn't have the name of the second person to be in the room (what does that matter?), etc. We were so looking forward to each of our massages only to be turned away.

Lastly, and unrelated to our dilemma, there were two dogs in the lobby of the facility. As best I could determine they belonged to one of the employees.

Needless to say, we were quite disappointed in our Massage Envy experience.

Unauthorized Charges / Harassment
Was a member for about 20 months. First year was good. Therapists knew what they were doing, I was able to get the same therapist virtually every visit and all were kind and easy to get along with. Not sure what changed, but starting in about September 2010 most everything with the joint went downhill. Never could get the same therapist, appointments got harder to book, and reception staff became quite rude. Finally, I was so disappointed with the service, I cancelled my contract in February 2011 (you can cancel anytime after one year). Had a bit of an argument with the reception folks over how long I had to use my prepaid massages. Finally decided I did not care and did not want them. All agreed and the account was cancelled (conveniently (and thankfully), I also closed the Visa account I was using for their monthly charge around the same time). Heard nothing for about six weeks, but then a past due notice on my account came in the mail. Called them to get resolved and it was a game of hot potato. Talked to all the front desk folks, but never a "manager". To this date, I have never received a call back from the manager. I have mailed their past due notice back to them, but my next stop will be the BBB if they come back with any more PD notices on my account. Overall, I would recommend staying away from this business, as it seems they cannot keep qualified personnel for any extended period of time. Maybe they grew too fast or something, but in any case they are no longer providing a quality service (unless you consider a high school dropout fresh out of some "massage licensing school" - whatever that might be - capable of providing quality massage services).

Membership Charges
BBB Complaint Filed against :
Massage Envy– Valencia #0636
23957 Newhall Ranch Road
Valencia, CA 91354

I properly canceled my membership in 2009 due to a move that resulted in no ME within 50 miles. According to ME rules, I brought a letter of cancelation into the clinic before the move and mailed in my first utility bill as soon as we received it one month later. I called the clinic and spoke with a gentleman that stated they had received the utility bill and that I was all set, the membership would be canceled. At that time I had become very ill and my husband took over the finances. Last month (Feb 2011) my husband had me look at the credit card bill and we discovered that ME had reinstated the charges to my card and had overcharged me by 11 months (April 2010-Feb, 2011)! The clinic and corporate having been giving me the run-around and have recently basically told me to go pound sand! I have sent them documentation proof of the proper cancelation. These charges are fraudulent and need to be reimbursed. My experience leads me to believe that THIS IS A DISHONEST COMPANY and I warn everyone to not sign up for a membership and never ever give this company your credit card number!

Resolution Sought: Reimbursement of the $413 fraudulent charges on my credit card(the credit card company was able to reimburse 4 months worth.)

unfair practices in rates
BAIT AND SWITCH!! That's my experience. I travel for business and thought it would be nice to get a massage. I called the facility in Cordelia, CA and made my appt for Saturday, March 5th at 3pm. I was quoted a rate of $74 for a 90 min. massage.
Imagine my HORROR when I was actually charged $114 because I mentioned at the counter that I had been a member more than 6 yrs ago in another state!!! The gentlemen at the counter explained I had to be charged at the non-member rate even though there was nothing even posted to show this new rate. He further explained that who ever gave me the rate must have misquoted the rate...even though it was HIM.

Talk about taking away the relaxation of a massage!! Unfortunately, no one seemed to want to help me resolve this situation so I will be contacting the BBB and the massage licensing board for California to file my complaint since I was unable to get a name of an administrator for this facility.

Unethical Business Practices
I am currently an employee of ME. I am also trying very hard to find emploment else where. I have been a practicing massage therapist for 11 years now and if this is was is out there for the rest of our community, then I am truely sorry. I taught at a massage school for two years and encourage my student to apply at ME, but now that I am there myself- I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. The owners lied since day one and contine to do so. They were decitful in their hiring practices especially regarding pay. I was told, POINT BLANK that I would be making $18/hr (still low for a therapist who has as much training as I do), plus commissions. Commission include: requested therapist ($1.00), New Member sign on ($5.00), Hot Stones ($3.00), Deep Muslce Therapy ($2.00) and Aromatherapy ($2.00). I could make my own schedule and 25 hours a week was considered full time given the work that we do. I was also offered the position of Lead Therapist. This all sounded great for me, so I took the job. However, first paycheck rolls around and I got paid $7.50/hr with NO COMMISSIONS. So I went to the owner(s) regarding my paycheck, thinking it was just a mistake. NOPE!!! I was told that I was now getting paid two different rates. One for doing massages and the other was hourly (when not giving massages), which ever was higher. And that commission would only be given if I met my massage rate for that pay period. When I expressed my confusion and disbelief, since I was NEVER told this in anyway shape of form, I was told and I quote, "We told all the therapist this at their interviews and you all just hear what you want". So as Lead Therapist, I inquired with all the other therapist to see what they were told regarding the pay. Out of the 8 therapists- 2 walked out immediatly- all where told the same thing. They would get paid $15/hr with not mention about an hourly vs. massage rate or commissions only if you met your massage rate. Since then 4 other therapist have joined the "ME TEAM" and all four were also mislead about their pay. 1 left after her first paycheck. There are also a number of other practices that are unethcial- Repremanding me for not working on an intoxicated male customer who asked me if I gave "happy endings". And because he was some Radio Personality, he was given the VIP treatment and 2 free massages with apoligies from ME for my behavior. The owners still have not posted their Establishment License nor the Texas State Complaint Numbers, which is Texas State LAW, nor have the posted the Labor Law poster.

I hope to find another job soon and be done with ME. But I will send a detailed letter to the Corp. Offices and tell everyone I know about this place. If they are willing to treat their employees like that, do you as a paying customer want to go there???
