Massage Envy Reviews

sexual harassment
I am a member of the massage envy program, and in November, the therapist planted a kiss right on my mouth. I complained to the manager, telling her that I wanted out of my membership, and she basically told me "too bad, get an attorney or just get a female therapist from now until your contract ends". I have contacted an attorney, we'll see what happens...

PROTEST MARCH
We are planning a protest march in front of Massage Envy in Beverly Hills, on January 29, 2011 @10:00 am. The plan is to enlighten the public of the scam this company is involved in. There are thousands of complaints all across the U.S. and it has not only been because of my story, but the stories you have written about. IT'S NOT YOUR FAULT! I know I ask them 3 times about loss of massages and the kept assuring me that you never loose the massages. Well, I have 17 on my account and I can't get them unless I continue to pay. I think that's called EXTORTION! How is it that you have to pay more money to use a service you have already paid for. It's the old bait and switch. I have paid the for 17 massages @ $59.00 each which means I have paid them over $1, 000.00 for nothing. I refuse to go away, which is what their betting on. Well, they are going to have to work for that money. Many people don't realize contracts can be ruled as illegal in the court system and that is where I'm going next. I would hope that people will contact, the Better Business Bureau and their States Attorney General's Office as many of these have websites and you can file online. We just saw what happened in this country with Wall Street, the Banks and Big Business now small business are joining in with them to steal the rest of the money in our pockets. PLEASE e-mail me at: [email protected] If you would like to participate. There is strength in numbers and it is not only our right, but our duty to stop injustice. Thank you!

People Complaining
Oh. My. God. Are you people so insipient that you can't comprehend the fact that you just might need to take the time to read what they put in front of you? Even if you don't take the time when you're signing it for whatever reason, maybe your children are stuck inside a burning building who can truly say, you could take the time to skim over it once you get home and you just might notice (if you use all of your 16 brain cells) that you have 3 days within your inital term to cancel, no questions asked.

Stop blaming the company! Look at it this way, this product has helped so many people, myself included, but a few of their hundreds of thousands of clients couldn't be bothered to do what should be common sense and now they're trying their hardest to give it a bad name! Don't you have anything better to do with your time?

I understand when the therapist has done something wrong but most of this nonsense could've been easily avoided. It's things like this that make you understand why America is so far behind intellectually compared to the rest of the world. Instead of whining, how's about you become a bit more literate? You just might save yourself from making the same mistake again.

Unethical Business Practices
Since joining Massage Envy in 2009, I have not been able to get massages on a regular monthly basis, therefore creating a backlog of massage credits (12). I have tried to stop the automatic withdrawals until I get caught up, but was advised that if I stopped the automatic withdrawals, I could not use the credits. This is unreasonable and unethical. Massage Envy is holding my bank account and my prepaid credits hostage. I can not get out of this contract. I also inquired about giving some credits to friends and was advised that I could not do that either. And finally, the way Massage Envy records prepays is a rip off to customers. Customers should not have to use 2 prepays for an 1.5 hour service or for a hot stone massage. That is a rip off. Customers should be able to use THEIR payments as cash not a prepay credit. If I get a facial, I should not have to come out of pocket $10, when I have over $700 worth of payments sitting in Massage Envy's bank account. I am very dissatisfied and want to be able to use MY payments as cash to pay for additional services, gratuity, etc. I have searched the web for related complaints and have found dozens of unsatisfied customers. Is the corporate managers going to do anything about the unethical business practices that leave so many customers unsatisfied.

Misleading Contract Info
Member at Massage Envy for over 1 year I completed my contract and have maintained my membership month-to-month for an additional 6 months. I have accumulated 5 massages but I am unable to use them because I failed to give them a 30 day notice of cancellation. So in order to use any of the services that I have already purchased I am required to pay an additional 49.00 for the last month. None of this is explained to you when you sign up -- same for the cancellation policy -- additionally you cannot give your massages away to family members and they also pressure you to tip a minimum of 15-25 dollars per massage. In doing so you really do not have a "bargain". I can get a 60.00 massage at my health club. THIS IS A BAD DEAL altogether. I have submitted a complaint with FTC and will continue to let people know of this bad business policy.

Injury
I became a member July 2010 when I was having some back soreness. I had about 5 massages. Which were ok. One made my back hurt more the next day, but after that it was better. But, three weeks ago I was having some back soreness and I went for a massage while I was out Christmas shopping. They had no one there available except a man. I don't usually like male masseuses, but I decided I needed it so I consented. I have never had such a terrible and uncomfortable massage in my life. This Vietnamese guy was like a kamikaze pilot on my back. He kept pushing on pressure points even though I said to stop, he kept up the pressure. He said I was very tight and I needed to endure the pain. Then he started up with my legs, even though I specifically asked him to leave my legs alone. He started twirling my legs from the knee in a circular fashion, claiming this would help my lower back. I was still reeling and whincing from the pain in my lower back to take much notice to my legs. My left leg was ok, but when he came to my right leg, I heard something snap or pop. I just wanted him to stop and couldn't wait until I got out of there. When I woke up the next day, I had intense paining my right knee. I have been icing it, heat, stretching but nothing has let the pain subside. I called them and Marvin the manager seemed very sympathetic and said they never had s problem with this masseuse. He called me back a few days later and said he felt bad for me and offered a free massage.

Poor Business Practice/Illegal
The front desk staff informed me after my massage of this law:
5-522. PERSONS UNDER EIGHTEEN PROHIBITED FROM PREMISES. No licensee shall
perform any massage therapy for or permit any massage therapy to be provided to
any person under the age of eighteen (18) years of age unless accompanied by a
parent or legal guardian.
(Ord. 2204, Sec. II, 2009)
It is a confusing law and I am not sure how to interpret it in my case. I've taken my daughter with me repeatedly and today AFTER my massage and allowing her sit up front they tell me children under 18 are not allowed on the premises. The law states that in the title, but then reads in detail that it is regarding massage and even that's okay with parental consent. After reading into it, it seems to me like with parental consent and accompaniment, as in she was in the room with me as usual, it would be fine. Either way they should have informed me of this LAW BEFORE my massage NOT after when I am supposed to be enjoying a peaceful state. I am so disappointed because I feel there is nothing more I can do but post this, find someone to interpret the law for me and never go back.

Customer Service
Make sure you get the Name of the person you spoke to over the phone each and every time you make an appointment and they tell you anything. SEVERAL times they told us one thing on the phone and when we got to the location and went to pay things changed. I have had nothing but issues with this place and will not return there again! The massages were OK but every time I would try to go back to the same therapist they would be gone! high turn around with the therapist. They really need to train the front desk employees better. We also had a issue in the beginning and wanted to talk to a manager the manager was never in and never returned phone calls.

trust
I forgot my valuable and religious necklace at the clinic. They could not find it. I have lost trust on the therapist and the clinic. My therapist was Ryan Jason Willett.

Dissapointed me
I am so upset that I found this web site after I signed up for my member ship 8 days ago. I found another massage place called Lavida Massage that offered the same services at better rates. Before signing up with Massage Envy I asked (at least 3 people) about their cancellation policy. I was advised each time that I could cancel without any penalty within the first 30 days. Guess again. I called to cancel my membership and was told to read the BACK of my contract that I signed to find that I only have 3 days to cancel. What?!? When I signed the agreement, the representative never even showed me the back of the page and I didn't even have to sign or intial the back of the page. What a joke! I plan on fighting this until the bitter end!
