Target National Bank Reviews

TARGET CREDIT CARD HORRIBLE November 20, 2010
Credit Card Payment Held
I recently mailed a payment to Target to pay off my balance, so that we could use the available funds to do our Christmas shopping while taking advantage of their "5% discount when using the card" The payment was electronically debited from my checking account on the 11th, but the funds still are not available on the card. When I first spoke with Target, they stated that it was because my bank did not release the funds to them. I called my bank and they promptly stated that was not the case, since the funds were removed from my account already. I called back Target only to get the run-around and finally I demanded to talk to a supervisor. This was the statement that was given to me "It is Target's policy, that we can, at anytime, take a payment and hold it for an undisclosed amount of time, for no reason or recourse." She also stated, that me submitting proof that the funds have cleared my account would not help, and that there was nothing they could do to expedite the posting of the payment. THAT IS $1000 of MY money that has been UNAVAILABLE TO ME FOR OVER A WEEK, that I can't use for holiday shopping because they won't post it to the account. If I KNEW that was going to happen, I never would have paid off the card, and would have just used the money to buy things directly. THE SAD PART IS, my husband actually works for Target and THEY STILL treated us like crap. WORSE CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER! WORST EXCUSES EVER! AND IF THEY DONT POST IT BY BLACK FRIDAY, IM GUNNA BE EVEN MORE PISSED!!

Late Payment
I had a really bad experience with Target National Bank customer service. I applied Target Redcard in Nov, 2007, made some purchase, signed up for e statement in Dec. 2007. But I didn't get any statement neither paper or email. So I called them around Feb. 2008, paid all my balance over the phone and they also agreed to waive my late payment which never informed me before. In May 2008, they closed my account due to the unpaid late payment in the account, and still without informing me. I didn't find out till this year Jan, 2010 when I tried to apply mortgage for my new house. Because the stupid $10 late payment in my Target account since then, my credit score dropped from 761 to 680. I have to get much higher mortgage interets rate which end up paying few hundred dollars more every month. I called couple times to Target in Feb, 2010 to complaint about it, they said they fixed on Feb 11. I called again in April, they said they fixed on March 4th. But when I tried to refiance, the Credit Score is still low because they never fix anything!!!. I have to call Credit Bureau by myself to dispute it. Really bad experience. And this stupid late payment and unprofessional and no sense of responsibility customer service costs me almost $10, 000 to take this lesson. Will never deal with Target anymore.

Fees
I always found it easier to save payment information with different creditors so that in just a click or two my payment is made! However, NEVER do this with target. Once my payment information changed I went online to update my account number and make my payment. Not a good decisioin. Even though I filled out the forms that they provided, my new payment was still sent through my old account. As a result I then had $89 worth of fees including a late payment fee and returned check fee, not to mention my monthly payment. Even after calling severl times the representative was unable to both figure out my situation or help me change my payment information. I filled the forms out again and made another payment that also went through my old account. At this point my account was in such bad shape Target agreed to allow me to pay out my balance through a draft in which THEY selected the date. The date was the 21st of each month. I think GREAT.. they got me straight and my payments are being made! Nope. Although they decided my payment should come out on the 21st, a late payment is being charged to my account on the 20th of every month?!?! When will the cycle end. With all the fees my bill is unbelieveable! What can I do? I just got a new statement with two late payment fees of $39.. wtf... how do I make this stop?

Credit limit decrease
I just got a letter explaining that TARGET is lowering my TARGET VISA credit limit to $56 (you read right $56)...The letter said it was based on information from Experian credit bureau concerning a delinquent payment history and suggested that I get a copy. I proceeded to get a copy of all three major credit bureaus including Experian. I have had the Target VISA for many years and have NEVER been late with a payment and never gone over my credit limit...which was $15, 500. My current balance is apx $10K. Additionally my entire credit history is perfect with no late payments and my score is in excess of 700+. After calling and asking for an explination they said it was based on delinquent information...so I explained that I have a copy of the above mentioned credit report and NOTHING shows delinquent and I asked for the specific information they are refering to... They don't have access to credit information and the letter must have been a misprint but they are working to correct the letter. Of course she followed up with "there is nothing she can do to restore the credit limit." I asked for a supervisor and she said his name was ADAM but he doens't take calls but I can write him a letter. She refused to give his last name saying it was confidential and she can't give it out...So I guess writting a letter to Target bank addressed to ADAM is the way to get this problem resolved.

After years of loyal shopping with Target and many years of flawless ontime payment history means nothing with TARGET BANK...I will be on a crusade to let everyone I can contact, in person, on the internet and by skywriter to be aware of how TARGET treats its long term loyal customers. Fortunately, I am in a position to take my shopping and Visa business elsewhere...but I'm going to make sure others don't do business with a company like TARGET BANK and get they VISA credit cards elsewhere.

Lowered my credit limit
In December 2009 I made two payments, on time, to my Target Redcard account so that I could use the card for a car rental on my vacation at the end of the month. I carefully calculated the credit amount I would need to cover the car rental and the car rental company's hold. Two or three days after I made each payment, I called to check the available credit and the recording said "zero dollars." I also checked the account online and it showed available credit as $0.00, even though they admitted they credited both my payments. Wtf??? They credit your payments but then refuse to make your credit available? I called them to discuss this, and was told, initially, it could take "7 to 10 days." I have never had another creditor take this long!!! One week after the first of my two payments, my available credit was still showing zero AND they lowered my credit limit by $200, with no advance notification. I called them again. This time, a bored sounding customer service rep or whatever she was told me it could take "several" days to free up my available credit. It has already been more than "several" days, but they won't acknowledge that. They claim they don't know when it will show the available credit amount from your credited payment. The lowering of my credit limit, btw, meant I was screwed and could not use the Target card for my car rental. My vacation stands a good chance of being ruined because of this, but of course Target does not care. I spoke to (screamed at, I admit) a supervisor after the CSR kept repeating the same maddening singsong litany about reviewing accounts monthly, etc. The supervisor refused to tell me when my available credit would show as actually available and refused to reinstate my credit limit to what it was before. Target National Bank employees are not helpful to customers in any way; they must be trained to endlessly repeat the same garbage till you want to leap through the phone and inflict physical violence on them. I'm a peaceful person, normally, but all of this infuriated me beyond belief. They claim they don't have to give customers advance notification before making a major change to your account. I suppose they can do whatever they want and consumers have zero rights, just like my zero available balance. I admit I've been late on payments, but in December I was on time and paid way more than the minimum due. I don't expect any corporation to care about my life or my plans, but they don't even pretend to listen or attempt to help you find any kind of resolution. In fact, half the time when you call you get someone in India or someplace who is very hard to understand and sounds like they're reading from a script. They're just horrible, judgemental and rude. Where's the incentive to pay them on time? Or to pay them at all, for that matter? They should be required by law to give advance notification of their changes. I told them they were more evil than Wal-Mart, but I'm sure they don't give a crap.

Is ripping me off!
I accepted a payment plan with Target National Bank in April 2009. I was to pay them $47.00/month to pay my balance down to zero. Well, it is the end of the three months, I logged on to make sure everything was good and the account was closed, but to my surprise, my balance was $171.75!!! I called to see what was going on, they told me, "well of course you were accruing late charges each month"!!! I was so mad, I said what is the point of offering a payment plan to settle an account if you charge late fees too! They said I should have made extra payments on top of my agreement! They were not helpful at all. I have 39.00 dollar a month late fees and now owe them almost 400.00 dollars instead of the original 190. I have filed a complaint with Better Business and hope they dont scam anyone else!

raising rate
I was reviewing my credit statement from Target bill and noticed that my interest jumped from 14% to 19%. I was not late or over the limit so imagine the suprise. I called to see what was going on. The guy on the other line explained they sent me something in Feb. that explained it all according to him. I am not a lawyer or business person. I am sure I skimmed and nothing jumped out at me. Wiz kid on the other line said I had chance to opt out but that time had passed. I said I did not see anything I had to sign. I was calm and told him that I know he had no control over it. It got worse though when I asked to be transfered and he wouldn't do it. He said that he was the supervisor and there was not one else. No wonder he such freaking dip sh&t he has to run all Target by himself. We all know that is not true, but is really worth my time to argue with someone that doesn't care. II just want to pass along the word. Chase was happy enough to transfer my Target balance with zero percent interest.

APR
With these recent economic times I called Target to see about lowering my APR. I have been a good customer with Target and paid my bill on time. Upon contacting Target I was told that Target's policy was not to review anyones APR and that they would not readjust as per their policy. Upon speaking to a supervisor Sam I was told the same thing, no APR adjustment and he was the only supervisor there. When asked about speaking to someone in charge of him he told me there was no name or phone number for anyone just a P.O. Box for my letter to go into the complaint abyss. In these tough times we need companies that work with us not against us. This I feel is extemely poor business practice as well as dishonest. Save your money people...DO NOT OPEN A CREDIT LINE WITH TARGET.

Overcharged
I received a little notice from Target National Bank informing me that they were going to raise my rate to 18.9. It has been 15.9. Now this may not seem like much but it is for no reason at all. I have always paid on time...never ever late. I have always paid over the minimum. I am writing this to inform others to check their interest rates. I have written them a letter opting out of their new rate and closing my account. I despise sneaky, underhanded practices which punish those of us that bust our tails to pay their bills on time.

Overcharged
At Christmas time I went to into Target where they talked me into applying for the RedCard. At the time I had in hand two prepaid Visa Cards from work (gift cards). I was purchasing a few gifts one being a printer. At checkout time, the girl rang up the printer and was about to ring up the smaller items when she said I could not use my prepaid gift cards along with the Redcard 10% off promotion.

I told her no way, I wanted to use my gift cards, obviously! She did not know what to do so she had to go get help to back off the charge and they were all confused on how to do it.

So finally we thought they had it all figured out and they rang up the printer along with the other items and I paid for them with my two gift cards leaving a small balance on one of them. I never thought anything of it until...

February 20 or thereabouts I receive a bill. Not only is it charging me for the printer, which I paid with on my cash gift card but it is also charging me late fees for not paying on a previous statement of which I never received-I also never received the RedCard.

When I called Target about this they stated that they indeed had sent the card to the wrong address but said they had sent the statement to the corrected address. Which I doubt as I did not receive it or I would been able to catch this erroneous error at that time.

They are saying because it is over 30 days they cannot go back to video to watch the transaction and are trying to say that I purchased a printer on the Target card at 8:46 PM then went back into the store and purchased another printer along with other items at 9:13 PM. The time lapse is because the checker (s) didn't apparently know how to back out the original charge.

I am disputing it with them but I was told that because of the time lapse and being over 30 days (because I never rec'd a statement prior to Feb) I would probably have to pay the charges. This printer is not worth twice what I paid plus the 29.00 late fee that I am not responsible because they sent all information to the wrong address.
