Tench is a medium-sized fish, heavy and full-bodied. It occurs in soft-bottomed lakes, in low-flow rivers and in lush vegetation. Tanches are rather shy fish, hiding among dense grasses. They feed on invertebrates, including pond snails and small pea mussels.
