When I opened a CD at Citi in 4/2009 I was told I'd have to open a checking account as well to get the advertised interest rate. That was not what I intended to do but I went along with it (big mistake). Everything was fine until November when I started getting charged $25 per month against my $500 checking account as a "service fee". No forewarning, the charges just started appearing. I haven't written a single check on this account. I would have taken care of this in November but I just returned home from abroad. What a ripoff.
