1996 Pontiac Grand Am Reviews

Maris Miller June 28, 2011
Anti-theft system thought I was a thief
My 1996 Grand Am Se anti-theft system was not allowing me to start the car at 134, 178 miles. I took it to a Chevrolet dealer. Their ddiagnosis of code P1629, set-theft system ignition cylinder failed, led them to replace, recode, and program the cylinder at a cost of $706.55.

Then, ten months later, at 138, 459 miles, I had to have car towed back to dealer. The theft system again prevented starting and the tow cost $132.00.

They told me to replace the faulty PassLock cylinder and code keys to the cylinder and program the PassLock system at a cost of $94.88.

Now two weeks later, the car is not starting thanks to its anti-theft system again. I am going to have to have it towed back to dealer.
