Absolutely irritating
I've been a customer of AOL for over 18 years but now it has become nothing more than a store front for advertisers. It has become impossible to navigate because all of the space is taken up with adverts. Every email must be enlarged in order to read it, and then enlarged again to respond. Even the sign off page is an advert that must first be viewed before sign off is possible. To make matters worse, the emails flash which pulls the eye away from the working screen. AOL has become intrusive and bothersome. Not only do I not recommend anyone taking up the service, I will also not be doing business with the companies who contirbute to making what was once a pleasurable and effective communication system become absolutely irritating.

Illegal account opening
AOL dial up service is illegally get my credit card information and billed me for the service I never requested. If I want to talk to one of the customer service reps, they always want me to talk to fraud department and I never get to talk to anyone from fraud department. They put me on hold forever. I believe they do this, so people would hang up. Many times, AOL send people with a free trial CD for dialup service. I never open the those CDs, but they can somehow still open account and start bill you.

Furthermore, when you buy new computer system, AOL put their free trial CDs and they open the account for consumers.

It is illegal for them to use unauthrized credit card information and illegal to open an account. I don't know how I can solve this issue with AOL. They are sending me letters, saying they would report to the credit bureau if I don't pay the amount. I had my credit card company to put a stop payment on AOL. Can anyone tell me what I could do.

Fraud and scam
I have recently been sent to a Collection Agency due to improper billing by AOL. While living with my fiance I called Aol for internet dial up services which were to be billed to my fiance's phone bill. I moved out the end of December leaving the computer behind. Since the internet was not in my name I did not feel it necessary to cancel services. In February of 2007 my ex canceled the Aol internet. He has proof of payment up until the cancellation date through AT&T but AOL claims they have not been paid. That's when I started receiving bills in the amount of $61.80 for 2 months of service from November and December. When I call to speak to a supervisor they simply say, "No one is available at this time." They will not resolve this issue with us stating it is an AT&T problem to talk to them but they will not contact them, that it is our responsibility.

I told them I wanted records sent to my ex from July of 2006 to February 2007 and to hold the account until this is resolved with a supervisor. The next letter I received from AOL was stating I was reported to a collection agency. My ex is still waiting on the billing records. I have come to find out Aol has been involved in several law suits in reference to their billing tactics.

This company is known for their "Double Billing" issues. I, along with several others are fed up with this company!!

Terrible experience
I'm an old consumer of AOL having confirmed ID and password .Using service to send and open mail. Recently even after giving my ID and PW I'm asked to give details of my credit card which I refuse to share with anybody not connected, and refused to open my mails. Lots of mails, some important ones I can't address to my loss for not being able to open. I want to open my accumulated mails to open now.

Harassment
I am seriously considering dropping AOL due to the offensive way they present the ads. It is difficult to read your emails, etc with things flashing before your eyes constantly. I don't pay to be harrassed by advertisers constantly. They have shortened the email pages so much, it is impossible to see pictures from friends etc - you have to keep scrolling down to see from head to chin.

Terrible experience
Installed new up-to-date AOL Desktop for Macintosh 10.5.5. Every screen is filled with ads of all sorts--still, flashing, all around the periphery. Enough to drive one mad.

Mistreated and cheated
We have conducted our business correspondence on AOL for over 14 yrs as PAYING customers! Recently, we found we could not sign in. After calling "customer service" we were told our account had been "closed for violations", and that our "recourse" was to SEND A LETTER (send a letter???) to an address in VA. and wait 10-15 days for them to contact us! We sent a letter -paid express mail, signature required - 5 days ago and have heard nothing. Attempts to contact any viable person (i.e., legal dept.) have been unsuccesful as we are told to "write a letter". Meanwhile, we are missing business correspondence and feel totally frustrated, mistreated, and cheated. IF there was some violation, shouldn't we know about it??? IF we have been victims of identity theft or spam, shouldn't we be informed??? I am LIVID!!! LIVID!! We are only waiting to transfer all of our contact info. to a new service. What a travesty...we are considering legal action.
