Manager
My family has enjoyed going to Applebees for many years. On 10/23/2009 I met my son, along with a few of his friends at Applebees in Nicholasville, KY for dinner. It was a Friday evening and it was packed. Needless to say, we had to wait for our food, but that wasn't the problem. When we requested our checks, our very friendly waitress brought them promptly but did not return for quite some time. When she returned, she informed all of us that the machine that runs credit cards was experiencing difficulty. She returned to tell us the same story several more times and was embarrassed at having to tell us over and over. After about 45 minutes we requested to speak with the manager. This man was not very friendly or accommodating to us at all. The 3 credit cards used at our table were not rejected, they just couldn't be processed. No one else in the restaurant was having this difficulty with their credit cards, just our table. He kept claiming it was not his fault and did not want to work with us on our bill. He even suggested we go to an ATM for cash. I was the only adult present so I wrote a personal check. After 4 requests, he gave us a measley 10% discount. Our waitress was very pleasant and apologetic. Her manager passed the buck by making her explain the situation over and over when he was the one who needed to take charge. So much for friendly customer service.
