Aspen Dental Reviews

Misleading!
Aspen Dental, Warwick, RI. I went to Aspen dental to get my teeth cleaned, and I wanted a tooth checked that was giving me some discomfort. When I filled out the papers for the necessary information, I put down my visit was for cleaning and check. I was given a full set of X-rays which I didn’t need and when the dentist checked my teeth, and the X-rays, he didn’t even see the cavity on the tooth that I wanted checked. I did have a broken tooth right above the one that was bothering me. His main concern was capping the one that was broken, and not taking care of the one that was bothering me. I made an appointment to get the cavity taken care of.

When I went for the appointment he started working on the tooth that needed a cap, and not on the one that needed the filling. I told him that I wanted the cavity taken care of on the lower tooth. He did the filling and then started working on the broken tooth that needed the cap, which I did not want done at that time. He went ahead and put a temporary filling in, and said nothing about a core buildup, which is needed for a crown. When I received my statement from the insurance company, it listed it as a core build up which is not covered by my insurance.

On the Aspen bill it was listed as core buildup with pins. I questioned the core buildup and pins listed on the Aspen statement. In a phone conversation I was told that there was one pin put in and that two were not needed. When I went to pay the for the core buildup with pin, I found out there were no pins at all and that the price was the same, with or with out pins. The person told me that it was listed as core buildup/pins, meaning that the core buildup could have pins, pin, or none. This in itself was inconsistent with what the bill stated, because on the Aspen statement it plainly stated core buildup with pins. Beware of Aspen Dental; they will take advantage of any person that is not aware of their pressure tactics. They obviously can’t keep track of what they do and don’t do. And are confused on the proper terminology too clarify their work done.

Beware!
Thank you all for your comments. I had just received dental insurance from my new employer, and of course, the only Dentist in their network was Aspen Dental. I decided that I would try them out before sending my husband and four kids there. My first impression when pulling in was fear! They were located in a shopping mall! Oh well, I had a coupon so I knew I would be out of no money, It was only x-rays. I continued and check in, they had me waiting for 2 HOURS!

During these 2 hours I had plenty of time to watch how they operated. First of all, ALL the technicians appeared to be fresh out of college. (Nothing wrong with that, but I would have preferred to see a few people over 30 overseeing things). Then they proceeded to bring my fellow waiters up to the billing clerk to receive money prior to service. Now I was quite a bit skeptical. But I stayed the course and continued to wait, being thankful that I didn't put my kids through this.

Finally, my turn!! I go in get my x-rays and continue to another room to wait, and wait, and wait another 45 minutes. Then a Doctor comes in, looks at my x-rays and tells me that I have the beginning stages of gum disease and 4 cavities. He then proceeds to insult an oral surgeon who had done work on me a number of years ago.

Then he has his assistant go through the "plan" with me. She said that I would need a slew of medications and flouride tied into all this work I would need. Flouride??? for $85?? I am over 30!! Now I am feeling like this is a joke and there is a camera somewhere. I continue to speak to the billing/insurance girl before I leave. She continues to inform me that all this work I need done is going to cost me $2500!

I have never had a single cavity in my 30+ years, and brush, floss and wash regularly. I told the girl that I would not be making another appointment and conceded that this experience was one of learning, taking 3.5 hours of my life to investigate a dentist that I now know I will NEVER bring myself or my family to.

Scam and dishonesty!
I recently moved to Keene, NH and found that Aspen Dental is the only dentist in town covered by my insurance. The staff seems very nice, but they told me I needed a special cleaning (it was really unpleasant) which I have never been told by my other dentists; gave me a mechanical toothbrush I don't need; and charged me $800 on a $1500 bill despite the fact that my insurance covers 80%. I talked to them and they said if my insurance pays more they will reimburse me after all payments are received. I am feeling REALLY uncomfortable about the whole situation. Are they padding my bill and performing procedures that I don't need? Beware!

Stay Away from Aspen Dental !!!!!!!
Stay Away from Aspen Dental TORRINGTON,CT !!!
In 2008 I went To Aspen Dental. I need a lot of work root canals, couple bridges filings, that what they have told me.
They did X-rays and exam. Estimate they prepare show that after insurance I have to pay $3000.00 out of packet. I have applied for CARE CREDIT biggest mistake ever. They transfer all the money from Care Credit to their account that same day I apply for it, without my permission.
They charge Care Credit in advance for work before it was done base on estimate. In other words they charge for services not rendered.
I have find out that after I have root canals done they charge $1500.00 for one !!!!!
Normal price is around 800.00. After explanation of benefits from may insurance I pay out of packet $330.00 for one. But they refuse to give me credit back, because I have root scaling and planning “cleaning” done before root canals, that insurance don’t pay for yet.
Cleaning is cover in 100% they charge extra $45.00 for something that I don’t need and is not cover by insurance. They give me electric toothbrush as part of the visit they don’t ask if I like to purchase that item. They charge $125.00 for it.
I fight to get my money back for month, they refuse to cooperate. They told me that no credit will be posted until they receive all payments from insurance.
Office manager lie to me from beginning she prepare estimates, she transfer many from Care Credit to Aspen Account. Toothbrush was send back I don’t se any credit for it also. After few meting with her she was very nasty I have to contact corp. office they been unhelpful either.
Stay away from Aspen Dental anywhere on the globe. They don’t know what it means customer service.
There is many, quality Dentist around Stay away From ASPEN DENTAL…

Scam artist!
My employer switched to Aspen Dental. The only place t hat takes this is Aspen. I asked if I could make an appointment to get one tooth fixed until I could afford all the dental and if I could do it a little at a time. They said no and refused to assist me. They said I would have to get a "treatment plan" and sign the contract? Where is there somewhere I can report this too? I mean someone has to let the media and BBB know that this group called Aspen Dental is a bunch of ripoff artists.

Aspen dental practice!
On Janunary 15, 2008, I went to Aspen dental, Seekonk MA to get my teeth cleaned. After the service, they told me to pay $24, because they said they did periodontal maintenance cleaning on me and I need to pay 20% of it (the total is $125). On Jan 27, I received a letter from my insurance which stated there was no record indicating a history of treatment for periodontal disease and the periodontal maintenance is considered an adult cleaning which should be charged for 58$. The insurance paid 100% of it and indicated I should pay Zero. So I talked to Aspen dental and showed them the letter. They insisted they did periodontal maintenance and refused to refund me. I was so pissed and don't know what to do next. It is not about the money, it is about how they practice. I definitely am not going back to them again.

Abcessed and calcified tooth!
Beware of Aspen Dental. On November 24, 2006, I went to Aspen Dental to get a second opinion about some gum inflammation I was having. Dentist said, I had early stages of gum disease; because my teeth were not getting cleaned good enough. Aspen Dental took all their own x-rays. The dentist, seemed very knowledgeable. Eventually I agreed to have Aspen Dental do the Deep root scaling and planning teeth cleaning. Dentist prescribed antibiotics for the gum inflammation.

The first half of my mouth was cleaned that day. Also, they did a very hard sell of the Rotodent Electric toothbrush. The hygienist was worse than a vacuum cleaner salesman. Eventually I was talked into the rotadent and was told not use my Sonicare. Needless to say I ended up purchasing a toothbrush. I had to return on December 7, 2006 for the second half of the cleaning. Then on February 8, 2007 I was told I needed a recheck and periodontal maintainence. In addition I went back on June 6, 2006 for more periodontal work These procedures were expensive; but it was worth it because my gums were feeling better.

BUT... In June 2007, I was moving out of state. I asked Apsen Dental for copies of my chart and x-rays. So that I may present them to my new dentist. Aspen Dental called told me my chart and x-rays were ready to be picked up. The records were sealed in a manilla envelope. I made the mistake of not opening it right in the office. But I was relocating; too much stuff going on.

October 2007 I scheduled a dentist appointment for a routine check up and cleaning with a new dentist in my new area. At the appointment I opened up the manilla envelope what do I find. A few x-rays, and a note on Aspen Dental letterhead. The only thing legeable is Periodontal. The rest of it is a bunch of scribbles. My new dentist looks at it and says, "How on earth is anyone supposed to read this!" I had new x-rays taken. Plus I had Aspen Dental's x-rays. My dentist examines the new x-rays compares them to the x-rays taken at Aspen Dental. "Didn't they tell you that you had an abcessed tooth and it's nearly completely calcified! It was there last year, this year it's worse!" I said, "No I was never told." In fact, I had complained about that tooth for at least nineteen years. " I explained I starting having doubts about my first dentist. All my tooth pain and jaw pain was always caused by TMJ, tooth grinding or some other weird diagnosis. I went to Aspen Dental hoping to get a second opinion and better dental health care!

My new dentist, refused to touch the tooth. Sent me to an Endodontic Specialist. Eventually I had a root canal; but it failed. The tooth was so badly calcified the endodontist had a hard time finding the original canal. I just had Endodontic Surgery last week. It will take time to see if the surgery is a success. Otherwise, I will have to have my tooth extracted and replaced with a prosthetic tooth.

I still do not understand how this tooth got so bad. In my opinion my original dentist and Aspen Dental failed me. They are both negligent. The tooth was already 90% calcified in October of 2006. It should have been visable on x-rays in 2005! Not sure why it was not detected sooner. Even after I complained many times about the tooth. BUT the infected tooth is clearly visible in 2006 on X-rays taken at Aspen Dental office in Blasdell and they never told me. Four office visits and not a single word about my abscessed tooth.

As far as my original dentist, I have nothing good to say. But that is a different complaint. As for Aspen Dental, in my opinion, Aspen Dental would rather see all your teeth fall out. They can make more money doing implants, bridges, making false teeth, and selling motorized toothbrushes. This outfit is not interested in preventative maintainence. They only want to make a lot of money real fast! I am troubled knowing that I could have had a root canal a year earlier, maybe even two years ago. I did everything a person is suppose to do. Regular check ups, brushing twice a day, flossing everyday.
What do I have to show for it. A failed root canal, leading to Endodontic surgery. Maybe tooth extraction.

The best thing that could have happened to me and my teeth was relocating to Mississippi/Louisiana area. The dental care I have been getting; is far superior than what I received in New York! I can not stress enough, stay away from Aspen Dental. If you are a current patient of theirs, I highly recommend finding another dentist in the area. I wish I would have done my homework or asked friends and neighbors for a referrals. If you ever need a dentist in Western NY ask me. I tell you who NOT to see.

I think Aspen Dental are a bunch of crooks! I wish the New Media would do some undercover investigating, I am certain they will end up with one shocking story!

Fraud & cheating!
In 2007 I went to Aspen dental after getting dental insurance. I told them that I wanted some of my teeth capped. I had been going to a dentist all along and 3 months before I went to Aspen I had my teeth cleaned. Aspen took alot of x rays, and had informed me that I had Periodontal Disease and that I would have to take care of this first. They had gave me a invoice on how much it would cost. It was well over $ 1000.00.

I called up my previous dentist and explained to the receptionist that I had been to Aspen and before I could say anything, she knew what Aspen had done because they did the same thing to 2 other people. Aspen also told my sister in law she also had Perio Disease. I asked for my x rays and took them to my previous dentist and he confirmed that I do not have that disease. i now have my new caps and I'm not having problems with them or my gums. I wounder how many other people have been ripped off by Aspen...
