Stolen Phone and Privacy
I reported my iPhone stolen on 1/13/10 to AT&T 800 number and on 1/14/10 to the Daytona Beach store. After calling AT&T to report the phone missing I was told it would cost me $700.00 to replace my phone.
Over Easter weekend I found out that my ex-husband had his iPhone stolen. I asked him where he got the phone and was informed it was the one he took from me. He told me that in February he took the my phone and had service put on the phone under his own account. He just walked in off of the street and AT&T never asked for a sales receipt nor did they even look to see if the phone was reported as stolen. After finding out what happened to my phone I contacted AT&T and was told it is not their responsiblity to see if a phone is stole or not. So they are only concerned about getting the new customer and making their current customer pay $700.00 for another phone. According to the police and AT&T $700.00 is a felony charge neither the police nor AT&T would help me retrieve my phone. I also found out that AT&T local store in Daytona Beach, accessed my account and printed my ex-husband off a copy of my receipt so he would have one. It had my name on it and my account had a passcode on it and the Daytona Beach AT&T did not even verify that code, AT&T does not care about security on any ones account.
If AT&T and other carriers would just verify if a phone was stolen or not, the theft of cell phones would go down. So instead of AT&T helping a customer that has been with them for years. They told me they would give me a $80.00 credit or a cheaper phone.
I personally feel that if everyone that has ever had an expensive phone stolen and has the police report and notified their carrier started a class action law suit against the cell phone providers that our phones would once again be safe, but then again it would cut into the executives bottom line if they had to be responsible business people and look out for their customers.
If any attorney would be interested in handling this case please contact me at the above number. I am sorry, but I don't have another $700.00 to buy another iPhone and I am stuck paying for a line that I can't even use. I think it is time that we took back what is ours and make the providers responsible for selling service on stolen property.

Highly Deceptive Sale Practices
Our company used AT&T for its business phone lines for several years. An AT&T sales representative contacted us to suggest a new and lower cost service towards the end of the contract. Our employee repeatedly and specifically asked the AT&T sales representative if this would alter or extend the contract in any way and was assured by said AT&T sales representative that it would not and we could cancel any time. Our business moved to new offices several months later and attempted to cancel the contract. We were informed that we were now under a new contract and assessed a $1300 penalty. We refused to pay and demanded proof of contract in writing. AT&T customer service never contacted us on the issue and instead turned the issue over to a collection agency.
We informed the collection agency of the situation and explained their deceptive practice. We will now work with D&B and business credit agencies to defend our credit rating. Most importantly we will inform our clients of this situation and work to ensure others do not face the same inconvenience. You would think with the high volume of similar complaints against AT&T that their management would realize deceptive business practices lead to unhappy customers. Unhappy customers typically leave and tell others why. As the complaints pile up customer acquisition and revenue decline. It's simple math and its bad business.

bill
We experienced a blackout a few months back.(It affected the entire neighborhood) I called AT&T and told them about the outage but did NOT request a service call because the power came back on in 45 minutes. If I had requested a service call (which I did not), I would have called them and cancelled it. The next month I recieved a bill for a $55.00 service call. I called several times to dispute the charge, but they told me that I would have to pay it anyway. I reported AT&T to the Public Utilities Commission. I refuse to pay for something I did not ask for.

Connection of service
I ordered DSL service switching from Comcast. I spent 2 hrs on the phone over 3 days triing to get service conected after the date I was given. I have finally have given up on AT&T for internet service. They are the most mis-managed company I have ever encountered. I thought Comcast was bad, I will pay the extra $18 a month just to not have the trouble. I warn anyone from starting service with AT&T, you may want to re-think switching to them

SPEED ON INTERNET
The internet speed was not as fast as they claim it was going to be for the price they had us paying. The service is always going down or red lights are flashing for a minimal of 2-3 days. Iwill call the office and they send someone out and the very same day they finish the service is acting up again.

DSL
A simple request to move an active DSL account from line A to line B at the same residence has resulted in no DSL for 5 days now with no sign of any fix in the future. When we checked why our DSL was down we were informed it was dropped and would be moved to the other line by 5PM. I guess 5PM could mean any day in the future to AT&T. After some cafeful investigation we determined the staff did not place an order for the DSL at line B so A was dropped and a nothing happened. A new order was placed with a 72 hour delay in installation, but it is now in "PENDING" status, whatever that means.
Don't email the CEO as the staff will get even with you and delay or stall any request you make.
As soon as Bellsouth was taken over by AT&T it all fell into the gutter.

Using liberal disgusting "Yahoo" news
Every time I open my AT&T I see the "Yahoo News" homepage with all it's liberal garbage praising everything the Socialist Democrats do and complaining about the Constitutional Republicans. It's REALLY annoying and I wish they would stop using the very liberal and Socialist "Associated Press" for their news. PLEASE complain to AT&T / Yahoo / AP . I have complained and see no change so am looking for a new ISP.

Would not stop Cell phone service
We initially started our two year, two cell phone service with Cingular and never had a problem. Cingular was bought by AT&T. Then all the problems started September 2008 when we moved from Virginia to Rhode Island. Our original two year obligation had ended April 2008. I called and wrote and stopped service October 2008 and they continued billing me. I called and wrote and stopped service in November and December 2008 and they continued billing me. We didn't even use the cell phones and I explained that to them. I just had to stop payments in January 2009. They finally cancelled my service after non payment, but kept billing me. Finally, a collection agency contacted me and I made the final January 2009 payment. That is four months of payments at $ 185.00 for non-service, which is a total of $740. I am very upset and sent my entire package to the BBB. I can provide all documentation. They are a bunch of crooks and lie to the customers. Don't use AT&T!!!

Service
I have been an AT&T customer for years. Everything generally is fine...UNTIL WE CHANGE OUR SERVICE IN ANY WAY. We recently got talked into switching over to U-Verse. What a nightmare. Nothing worked as it should have, we were lied to by multiple departments (or worse, they are just ignorant and don't know the answers, so they make them up) and the result, as is the usual case with trying to change services with AT&T, we were without telephone service for an extended period of time.
Flash forward to present day: We are moving. From the moment we made the decision, I was dreading transfering my phone service. I knew in advance that it would be a nightmare, and true to form, it has been. The issue is that I have a home office and I rely on my phone service for business. I cannot afford to have sub-par service and I can't afford to be without things like voice mail, caller ID, call forwarding, etc.
I was told that in order to maintain my original phone number, they would have to come out and transfer my U-verse lines to a standard jack-in telco line. Then, next week when we move, they will come out again, and transfer everything over to U-verse again. (Whatever.)
I TRIPLE-CHECKED with 3 different depts before I agreed to all this that I 1.) would not be without phone service, and 2.) when they made the switch to a normal jack line, that I would still have all the functionality of my service, i.e., voice mail, caller id, etc. "Oh yes, you will not have any down time other than when the tech is there making the switch." Again, 3 different dept heads assured me of this.
Sure enough, this morning comes and I am without phone service. Callers to my line did not get my voice mail, instead the phone just rang and rang. Great. Even the technician who came out said that AT&T is putting so much emphasis on U-verse and DSL, that they have forgotten about the heart and soul of what AT&T is about - TELEPHONE SERVICE. Forget the fact that they have customers that have paid their bills for 50 years and rely on their phones to be working, suddenly they are not a priority anymore. Sad.
I will never use AT&T again if I can help it - every single time I need something or service changed, IT NEVER GOES SMOOTHLY. EVER. No one wants to take responsibility or is accountable to anything...it's all about passing the buck to the next department. Unbelievable that this company is still in business.

deceit
I have recently thought about switching my bundle service from Cox to all AT&T but after reading some complaints I am reminded of what happened to me a few years back while using AT&T for my land phone service. I have to share...I moved to a small town and opened a small business in my home. I used AT&T for my home phone. I didn't need a different phone number for my business but called to ask how to list my business in the yellow pages with the same number. I wanted to keep using the same number for both. After talking to her, I didn't think I needed to go to that much of an extra expense of that listing. She talked me into trying it for a month or so and if I rfound that it really wasn't neccessary. Then they could reverse it. So I tried it out so people could find me by my business name. I quickly realized that a small town did its own advertising and I didn't need to pay extra for the business phone service. They then said they know I am a business now and will not switch it back to my personal home number only. They continued to charge me the extra $22 a month because I had a business in my phone even though I used the same number for my home and wanted to delete the business phone service. The only thing I could do was to apply for a new phone number entirely but they already know I would be using it as a business phone. All my customers already knew my phone number for work so I couldn't switch that. I was stuck for the 6 years I lived and worked in this town. At that time you couldnt take your phone number with you if you were to move so I was stuck. I have never forgotten the deceit from them. Also, after moving, I signed up with them and quickly had trouble. Tried to cancel my service and go with Cox. AT&T screwed me again with an early cancelation fee!
