I spoke to Charlie over the phone prior to him sending "his wrecker" (he has a contract with a wrecker service to pick up cars around town and then if you cant afford the work he will charge you for storage and a really high towing bill.) to get my car and he assured me that he would take care of the issues for as little as possible and even offered to let me pay the bill out if need be. However, his little as possible, turned into $1200.00 of which he only wanted $875.00 very quickly. Said the car needed 3 of the most expensive parts under the hood. When I told him that I needed a couple of weeks to get the money together and that I didn't want the repairs started until I was sure I could pay him the 400.00 up front he says ok. Flash forward 2 weeks and when I call to find out how much the towing is going to be since I cant pay for the repairs, Charlie informs me that the car is 90% ready and only needs an EGR valve replaced. I then reminded him that he had no authorization to proceed with repairs. He began to tell me that he would only charge me for towing and storage if I wanted to come get the car that I must bring him $590.00 cash and that the storage fee was $25.00 per day. Towing $125.00 plus $2.00 per mile at 48 mile. Then 15 days of storage fees adds up to almost what he originally agreed to charge for the repairs themselves. This person has 4 shops in the DFW area that I have tracked down. He has lied to me about the repairs and then he begins repairs so that he can keep my car if I dont pay him and I am willing to bet I have to get the police involved before he even lets me see my car. PLEASE DONT BE FOOLED BY THE "HONEST MECHANIC" as he claims to be. anyone that has to advertise their honesty is in my opinion trying to hide behind false words. I will update as I run this gauntlet. Pray for a peaceful resolution to this situation. As I do.
