Bank of America Reviews

Rate increase
Bank of America just raised my APR on my credit card, even after I received a letter stating that my APR will be unchanged, unless I use my card.

I didn't use my card, and still got my APR raised.

Unreasonable penaltys/poor customer service
I would like to warn anyone who is considering banking with Bank of America. I have not been able to resolve my issues with them. I have been a customer for many years, but they do not value that fact. I have been treated very rudely. It is apparent that they all have a script to follow when explaining their reasons for exorbatent fees and unreasonable charges. I am in the process of closing my accounts, when I explain what happened to my new bankers, they are shocked with how I have been treated. Each one of us has to stand up for what is right, or those that do wrong will continue on with their unethical practices.

Overdraft Fee
how can you deposit a check that is reversed from your account and then lost meanwhile they start charging you overdraft fees and never find your item you deposited, they reversed, and while you are trying to get another replacement check to fix their loss they just keep charging and charging...to add salt to the wound now that your account is overdrawn we are going to hold the next deposit (although it is a bank check) for another ten days and keep racking up fees!!! This is a ludicrous way to treat a customer. I closed the account and a month later receive a call that the account is 735.00 overdrawn...in fees, multiplying fees on top of fees. Well Bank of America, you can keep those fees in that overdrawn account along with the $1280.00 in fees I was too sick with cancer to catch, and have a nice day! I am finally wiser to your pitiful game.

Bogus NSF fees
This is similar to what I have had happen. Last week, I had had my direct deposit posted and went to pay a few bills. when I checked online, everything was posted and "Cleared" according to what I seen online. which my balance was $94.87 I made a $80.oo payment then a $7.84 and a $4.27 charge which would have made my balance at that point $2.76. well I went and figured "all is fine, everything was taken care of" little did I know that as of this time this morning, I incurred $105.00 in NSF fees that was completly unwarrented. I called them and they told me the charges were posted before the deposit and the fees will not be refunded. I feel taken advantage of by Bank of America and will never deal with them again. All I see is a bank that takes advantage of people who does not make alot of money finds ways to make a buck of the consumer and this problem needs to be addressed. our hard earned money is our money which we need to survive..pay bills, get our medications, feed our children. How would they feel if those very same people that does this practice have this happen to them?

CUSTOMER SERVICE???
As a business owner I have all my accounts with Bank of America. My payroll checks are drawn on this bank. The new policy is that there is a $6.00 fee to cash a check that is drawn on Bank of America. I was told the reason is to improve customer service. Am I not a customer? I deposit over $1, 000, 000 anually and expect that my employees should be able to cash their paychecks. Additionally, I went inside the bank today with a problem and sat there for over 35 minutes without being seen by an account rep. WHAT CUSTOMER SERVICE?? This bank's service has declined dramatically in the 6 years I have been with them.

Awful bank
I had a credit card out with Bank of America for over 2 1/2 years now and never missed any payments, I had a good credit history, paying off the credit card at the end of the month. I mailed my payment prior to the due date but it was not posted until one day after the due date and I was charge $39.00 finance charge. I called to get it credited and the Customer Service Manager stated that due to their policy they cannot refund the total amount because I was late. I told him that the payment was mailed on time, but they posted it one day later, he stated it is not the banks fault that the postal service is late delivering the mail they have their policies and must charge the late fee. This is very disappointing the same incident happened with USAA, but they credited the late charge because they realized the postal service problems and the check was posted one day late on their files, but the late fee was credited. I support 100% USAA they are customer friendly and work with the public.

No customer service
Bank of America provides zero customer service or help of any kind to long term customers with accounts in good standing. While attempting to deposit my payroll check at a BofA ATM machine, the machine took my card and wouldn't give it back. I couldn't make my deposit either. I called the BofA toll free number. All I got was excuses and patronizing lip service. They refused, despite my specific request, to send a bank employee to my location to retrieve my debit card from the machine. That was "against their policy". A manager I asked for then told me the same thing and refused to help in any way.

People beware! If you use Bank of America, you are on your own if you encounter any problems like this. They will NOT help you in any way. They will do nothing whatsoever for you.

Awful bank
I made a deposit to my bank account. At the time of the deposit I already a positive balance. I then made three purchases. Despite my deposit, which come to find out was 41 minutes after the deposit time (for my money to post as available), the bank charged me three separate charges. Beyond the irritating fact that I was unaware of their little deposit time rule, my favorite factor is that they take the highest amount that I spent... put my account overdrawn, then proceeded to take out the other two amounts plus charges.

When I called to appeal to their customer service department... they offered me no help. Thanks Bank of America.

Outrageous fees
I have repeatedly been screwed over by BOA. Their website is great... as long as you want to track how many overdraft fees you will receive!

They have a tendency to do two things 1)They will credit your account as little as legally possible ($100 until the check clears, even though the checking rules after 9/11 made checks clear almost immediately, although they can wait 7-10 business days to have it clear). And 2)Wait for all that overdraft money to flow in. Your online statement will read something like this by date (day 1)$700 paycheck pending, (day 2)$200 on groceries pending, (day 3)$200 on bills pending, (day 4)$100 on car repairs pending, (day 5)$100 on doctor bills, and (day 6) $100 in cash. Guess what BOA does? Sorry, but your paycheck didn't clear until they could rack up all those overdraft fees, so it's $35x6=$210. And that's just quick math for it. I've had more than a few overdraft charges because they dragged their feet with my paychecks. How can they really charge a person a $35 overdraft fee over a coke and a bag of chips?

I find this type of banking quite disgusting and prefer local banks. I'd rather pay the few dollars to get money at an ATM than $35 for overdraft fees. It is absolutely ridiculous.
