Bait & Switch
I originally purchased a Nikon D300 on eBay through Closeout Island on 3/17/10. The confirmation I received via email said I had to call (not respond to email) in order to expedite my order. I did so and was asked why I didn't go for a Nikon D5000 which was a much more professional camera. Ralph Hayes then ran through a high speed litany of what I would be getting for this fabulous price of $1, 493. When I asked why it was so much more, he said that he was "throwing in" a glass prism vibration reduction lens, professional High Definition firmware that did not come standard to the camera. He was also giving me a discount on a 5 year maintenance agreement and a 10 year warranty agreement. I asked him for a breakdown of the costs and he began to say them so fast I couldn't keep up. He then told me I would have them emailed to me within minutes. After repeated phone calls, I never got them and the "package' came the next morning. The total package worth after going on line was just over $1000 instead of the $1, 493 I was charged. Bear in mind, I had already ordered a Nikon D300 and they had all my credit card information. While I like the D5000, I would still have preferred the D300. The lens I received was a Sigma. There website advertises that it was a Nikkor - it is not! I received the information yesterday regarding my 5 year maintenance agreement but nothing on the 10 year warranty. Then to top it all off, when I registered the camera with Nikon, USA, I find out that my model # has been recalled and now I have to send it to Nikon! I am furious. Is there no one can help me!!!
