Terrible experience
My family and I are relocating from PA to Charlotte NC for work and I had limited funds so I used Nationwide Relocation Service, the biggest mistake ever. At first they were very accommodating at getting the correct information and there money. I was not informed, until 4pm the day of my pickup that Cross Country Van Lines was our movers.

They were six hrs late from estimated time of arrival of 12pm. they did not complete the packing till 2am Saturday morning. Furthermore, we packed ourselves and disassembled the furniture also. When the driver took stock of our furniture we were told that items, that were not frigle, need to be boxed and each box was $25.

Of course, with such a late pick up I had no way of contacting customer service so I was forced to make the decision of leaving items off the truck that could and should have gone with no issue. THis was just dealing with the pick up.

The following morning, when I could talk to a customer service person, they of no help. In the contract with Nationwide they were to assist to resolve issues with the movers. What that did was put me on conference call with Ralph of Cross Country. There was no mediation it was an unresolved and frustrated conversation with Ralph.

All I was requesting was not to be charged for the boxes. This seemed to be an extremely huge request, which remains unresolved. Furthermore, when the weight came back the estimate that we were given was off by 3, 000 lbs, going from 5474 to 8093. How is it possible for a 2bdrm apartment weight over 8, 000lbs!

We have requested a reweight, which after reading others here with this issue will not happen. They say you get what you pay for well we are paying a great deal and getting very little.

I would have to say that Nationwide is the one I blame for they contracted this company who has several complaint and is so problematic that they did not let me know they contracted them untill the day of the pick up. Dishonest, dismayed, disgusted are a few words...I will be following this up with our experience with delivery.

Scam and cheating

Refused reweigh
I used Nationwide Relocation for the second time to move from Boston to California. They contracted the move to Cross Country Van Lines. The beginning of the move went well, but when they told me that I was 800 pounds more than my previous move minus 3 pieces of furniture, I requested a reweigh. The broker company said they spoke to the movers who stated the nearest weight station to the destination was 60 miles away and advised me to call the movers directly to set up a time to meet. I called 1.5 weeks before the delivery to set-up a time. I spoke to Ralph, the supervisor, who stated he never received a call from the broker. I called back with the broker on the line, where he continued to state that the nearest weight station for 60 miles away and tried to convince me against the reweigh. I stated I still wanted the reweigh and the broker said I had a right to it, she also told me that she checked and the nearest weight station was 7 miles away. I called again a couple days before the delivery and there was still a runaround. Then the day of the delivery, they told me to wait to schedule to reweigh and then the movers were at my door with my stuff. The mover refused to reweigh because of the traffic. I was on the phone with the broker at this time and the movers stated that if I didn't give him the payment he was going to leave with my stuff. I eventually caved since I was tired of sleeping on an air mattress for 1.5 weeks, but the mover were lazy and didn't even want to put together my desk which they had taken apart before and didn't seem to care that legs for the table were missing (eventually they were found). Ralph said I didn't give him enough time to schedule and I replied "1.5 weeks isn't enough time?" The broker said they would reimburse me $200 for the hassle.

My advice is to make sure the broker doesn't use Cross Country Van Lines or go with them to the weight station in the beginning.

Sleeping on the floor for a month with 3 small children for a month
I hired Nationwide Movers to move my belongings from Boston to TX. Apparently Cross Country Van Lines (CCVL) was contracted to do the labor. CCVL showed up early and in a hurried mode where unwanted items were shipped and wanted items were not. Also, I was billed $25 for their placement of my TV in a Big Box without any mention of the "cost for their help."

I was promised my delivery by Sept 19. I phoned several times shortly before, on, and following that date with no response. The response I did get one time was, "it will be there this weekend" with no specifics. It did not arrive. Monday I phoned and no response. I was ready to phone the police when I finally got a supervisor rudely tell me "it will be there this weekend" and that it was a "busy time of year." No excuse for no communication.

I have 3 small children under the age of 5, one of which got very ill and needed hospitalized. We hired movers before with little inconvenience. Three weeks without beds, refrigeration, washer/dryer, furniture, CLOTHES, cooking utensils was extremely inconvenient and COSTLY. I believe I should be reimbursed for expenses incurred due to their negligence. If they communicated fairly, I may NOT have purchased another toaster oven after the 3rd week; however, how was I to know my belongings would ever arrive?

The condition of my property (full of sand??? and significantly dented) is another complaint. That, however, can never compete with sleeping on the floor for a month with 3 small children with no appliances to cook a home meal for one month.
