Unauthorized billing
When TV service ceased to work properly, Direct TV replaced a unit determined on the phone to be defective. The replacement box was shipped with no indication of add-on charges. System failed to work with new box. A subsequent service call by a service rep determined unit was not defective. After service rep rewired the setup, the original box determined to be OK. The Service rep told me "keep the box". When I moved to complex that did not permit dishes, in spite of the fact that replacement box returned to Direct TV, Direct TV charged me a $400 cancellation fee. Multiple calls and explanations did not prove helpful. It appears that they routinely ship new boxes to assure continued billing.

Ridiculous charges
DIRECTV has a really bad habit of charging customers for stuff you don't want or even asked for. I was charged for a stupid tri-pod (70 bucks) that I didn't need, they can mount the dish to ANYTHING but they said I needed it. If I want the dish mounted on the wall like I asked for I have to pay 50 bucks for them to come out again. They rip you off for everything, here's a letter to prove my point, they sent me this magazine and charged me 4.50 a month for over a year. See for yourself, my letter to DIRECTV and the response from them:

Good morning, my name is Andre M. For some odd reason you guys signed me up for your DIRECTV magazine and even worse charged me $3.99 a month without my consent. I never ordered this product and never authorized the charge to my bill. Please remove me for this unauthorized order, like I said I never ordered this magazine. And I'd like to be credited for all the times I was charged. Sorry for the trouble but this was never authorized. Thank you for your assistance. Andre

Refund
I cancelled my service bc we are like most americans cutting back bc we cant afford it. I sent my receiver back and paid my bill in full. The very next day 297.00 was drafred out of my acct without my authorization. It has been close to a month since this happned and I still havent received my money back. I keep getting the run around that it being processed. I have had to call three times. The first time I called the request for my refund was never even put in and requested. The customer service is horrible. I asked to speak to a supervisor and she wouldnt even come to the phone. I keep getting the run around but no refund. This has messed up my checking acct. and caused other checkes to bounce and Im being chared 20.00 per action on my acct. I wished I had never chose them.

Service charge
When my Direct TV ceased to work, a call to their service department resulted in a statement that the control box needed to be replaced and one would be shipped to me. Nothing was mentioned that shipping a box would result in a new contract. When the box arrived and it was installed, the non-reception problem persisted. A second phone call produced a service rep who later determined that there was nothing wrong with the original box (some rewiring necessary) and the original box was reinstalled. I asked the service rep what to do with the new box and he replied "keep it." I moved later to a complex that did not permit disks and so I canceled service with Direct TV. They have billed me $400 for cancellation.

In order to maintain service, Direct TV ships boxes even if unnecessary so they may charge additional fees.

reversal cancellation fee refund
I have been calling direct tv for more than a month regarding reversal cancellation fee refund. I was promised that they will send a check for 6-8 weeks since July, 2008. Until now I have not received any check. When i called the last week that they will credit it but until now they have not send a check or credit it . It seemed to me that Direct TV has pattern of deceiving their costumer. I'm not the only one complaining about their services. They have promised and even sent me a bill that it was credit it. But for more than 4 months of waiting that refund did not happened. It is an outrage what they are doing their costumer. They should be reprimanded. I hope their will be an action against Directv. Thank you very much

Extreme lack of customer service
It would take too much space to list out my complaints. I've dealt with numerous associates and supervisors to straighten out my problem, that really isn't my problem. This is a problem that has been ongoing for three months. It is definitely DTV's fault and lack of customer service.
All I need is a phone number to corporate office.
No employee of DTV will give it to me.

They have no ethics and morals
We constantly get the 771 searching for signal area. There is absolutely positively nothing that can be in the way and the weather is perfect. They want to charge 79.95 to send some boy out to look at it when it is THEIR product that is the problem. Also they have overbilled us nearly every month for the past year. We have to CONSTANTLY call and get it sorted out. Correct one month then WRONG again. What idiots. And the customer service is rude and useless. AND that 2 year contract ! that big CEMENT BLOCK around your neck. NEVER EVER AGAIN. NEVER. HOW COMPANIES LIKE THIS CAN BE ALLOWED TO RIP PEOPLE OFF IS JUST BEYOND ME. They have no ethics and morals.

Required equipment upgrades
We received a call from a Direct TV representative that stated we MUST upgrade our existing equipment by Jan. 2009 or we would no longer receive the Direct TV channels. This was a Direct TV upgrade and the Direct TV rep stated their would be NO additional charges or fees. Guess what? The bill increased. I tried cancelling their service and was told by 5 different phone reps that there is a $480. cancellation fee. I explained that we did not request the upgrade nor did we want it but we were told it was required to continue service. The phone rep even stated that the direct tv equipment we had was 4 years old and outdated and an upgrade was required to continue getting the channels but the cancellation fee was still required. I was never given a new contract, we were never told that with this new equipment, that we didn't request or want, would require a new contract nor were we ever told that to discontinue their service their would be this fee. The reps said it is in the small print on the back of the contract you signed 4 years ago.The only offer Direct TV gave us was a discount, back to where we started before the upgrade! After numerous call and conversations to the phone reps I have emailed direct tv hopefully I will receive a phone conversation and a favorable response to my complaint. As a consumer what rights do we have not to be taken by these companies.

Office of Predident 800#
I have had nothing but hard times with my direct tv. I've had 5 tech's to my house and 4 hd dvr's. After 8 hours on phine with people who do not care about anything. I found out how to get someone from office to give you a call back. Email them on there website and they email you back. I finally got there email and a responce there secert 800 number. The 800# is.
