Cancellation policies
WARNING If you sign up for Direct TV and decide it is not for you, you have 24 hours to cancel or they will charge you at least $460.00 to terminate the contract. They tell you this after the fact and there is no mention of it in the contract by the installer or in the contract information he leaves with you for the service. My two days of Direct TV cost $230 a day! Even one of their reps thought I had the usual 3 day grace period. WRONG I guess they need to get their money fast before the customer finds out that they've been ripped off.

Property damage
PROPERTY DAMAGE BY Direct TV:

Three years ago I had Direct TV contractor come to my condo to install Direct TV service. The worker was inexperienced and unaware of proper installation procedures. He went to the attic of my walk in closet in the search of cable points and stepped on the fire sprinkler system causing my two bedroom condo to flood. The flooding caused loss of valuable materials and sentimental memorabilia. The entire place was inhabitable for a month... as my condo was being worked on. In the meantime I lived in a hotel, with family and friends when the bills got expensive. At the same time I filed a complaint with Direct TV for expenses incurred. It has now been three years and I am still fighting this legal battle which has cost me thousand of dollars.

BOTTOM LINE: Direct TV through their lawyers have dragged this case on and on claiming they hire contractors who hire sub-contractors to do the installation. In fact the two companies contracted by Direct TV don't have license to operate legally in Virginia. Direct TV was unaware of this. They claim they are not liable and that I should go after the contracting company. But I didn't call the contracting company J&J I called the Direct TV number as advertised and promised to have professional installation done. I am still fighting... but to all of you there please hire someone else...

Money fraud
On August 6th, 2008 my fiance called Direct TV to settle on our past due account of $807.76(charges for fees on boxes unless returned or account is reinstated.) Direct TV settled on $225.00(we reinstated our account.) Within a day or two I went to make a withdrawl and there was no money left in my account. After going over my account I realized Direct TV withdrew two seperate amounts, one was for $225.00 and the other was for $582.76, turns out to be a total of $807.76. I immediately called Direct TV and spoke with a supervisor by the name of Marisol. Marisol agreed it was there mistake and they would return $585.09 (with taxes). I then explained to her my account was already insufficient and was accumalating fees. She assured me if I faxed in a statement to her all monies would be returned to my account by Friday August 15th, 2008. I was so excited about finding my money and knowing it would be returned to me that I did not realize how long I would have to wait. Today, (Monday August 11th, 2008) my fiance tried to get in touch with Direct TV to explain to them we needed the money returned sooner. Direct TV stated (Jared)they would be unable to return it any sooner. My fiance asked if we wrote a check for groceries if they would pay the "bounce fee, " he also stated they would be unable to pay the fees. Now for the dilemma, we have five children and that was money needed to buy some groceries, fuel for my car to get to work, and school supplies (school starts on Wednesday), and whatever else I needed to do with "my money." So I guess what I am asking is what am I supposed to do until Friday. I borrowed $20.00 last night to buy $7.83 worth of food for seven people for three meals for today and I put the rest in gas at $3.64 a gallon. I need food for the rest of the week and do not have the resources to beg or borrow. How can someone take your money so quickly and easily out of your account. Yet, take as long as they need to return it. I also had two credit cards I needed to pay and they are now past due (first time.) If anyone reads this and can call Direct TV and ask them to please put a rush on this we would greatly appreciate it. No local news
Both Dish Network and Direct TV force subscribers in the South East part of OHIO to watch WV programming. Why on earth would anyone in OHIO care about what is going on in WV as far as local news? Both claim they cannot provide OHIO programming in our area when in fact it's a total lie. Residents in our area who've moved here from Columbus bring their satellites with them and hook them up and receive OHIO programming. What gives? It seems as if we are being forced to make a stronger market for an area in which we care nothing for. Don't get me wrong I have nothing against WV and if something needed to be shared from WV I would watch it on CNN or FOX but in general I care about what goes on in my own state not another. Why would I care about WV football? Or what happens in the capitol of WV? I want to watch Columbus news and weather and personally I like to know what is happening in my state not WV.
So unless you live in a rural area I advise you NOT to use the services of Direct TV or Dishnetwork. I am sure this happens in other areas. Our installer even said all it takes is a different zip code and we could get OHIO NEWS but he was not allowed too.

Auto Billing Scam
I have recently signed up for Direct TV. First of all, the reception is bad, as I am sharing a big dish with neighbors in the apartement. Do not get satallite service this way by sharing a big dish with neighbors, you will have nightmares getting good reception. Second, I also signed up for auto pay and paperless billing. I was furious when I noticed that my credit card was deducted for 2 months payment with a late charge. I called and customer services responded to me that I had not pay my previous bill and that it takes 1 to 2 billing cycle for the auto pay to kick in. I checked through my statements and surprisingly, I didn't get my last billing statement nor was notified through email notification. Therefore, trying to be hassel free of writing a check every month and being eco-friendly of switching to paperless, I was charged a late fee. The customer service didn't not even explain things will and her English was horrible. I have now cancelled auto payment and paperless statement because I just cannot trust what Direct TV will do to take money from your account without your authorization. After 1 year, I will cancel the service. Never again Direct TV. I'm going back to Cable.

No show 3 times for installation
I have been without television now for 3 weeks thanks to the idiots who install direct tv in Glencoe Alabama area. I was scheduled for a Sunday and stayed home all day Sunday with no phone call or a no show from the installers... Then they rescheduled for that Friday and guess what a no show again!!! Then so they gauranteed me someone would be here on Sunday and guess what still a NO SHOW AGAIN!!! So all they have done is apologize and tell me more lies... I also contacted the intallation place and still no answer or phone calls back from them... WHAT A FREAKIN RIPOFF!!! Thislast time they said it was for weather... Hell the sun is shining what kind of weather do they need to install a dish???????? I know I usually pick a sunny day to work outside... This is the worst customer service I think I have ever received... I am so frustrated and all they can do it tell me to calm down they will help me out!

Billing dispute
Hello, I have had Billing problems with Direct Tv for over a year, ( they charged us for a football package! We never watch football!) When I finally get it resolved, new problems accursed and we finally decided to canceled our services. Well couple of weeks went by and we got a bill for over $300.00. When I called they said that I had canceled our services and their was an early termination fee... WE HAD BEEN WITH THEM FOUR A LITTLE OVER 4 years! The person that helped my told me that I had ordered a new DVR! I then told him that we called a technician, because our box was not working, He then told me that he was unable to fix the problem and that he had to replace the DVR. we mailed the defective box back to them and got a new one. they checked with their records and then a guy agreed and said that I had to write a dispute letter to an address. Well I wrote the letter and now they will not over turn it because they said that we ordered new equipment or up-graded. I tried to contact direct tv tonight and told the girl my problem and she told me that someone will call me tomorrow, I was asking her questions and then she hung up on me and when I called back I got a message that their office was closed...

THIS HAS BEEN A NIGHTMARE!!!

I can not seem to resolve it!

Fraud and cheating
Well I wanted to share my story in hopes that it will help destroy DIRECT TV in some sort of way .I hope people who see this are those who is thinking of switching or getting their services. I would say (DON'T) Read all comments available and listen to us all because we are trying to save you from Hell. To make a very long story short it started out that they promised me, with my package, that I would be able to receive local channels in my zip code area. After they hooked me up I find out it will be 6 weeks for me to get my locals. I wasn't told that when I made my order. Six weeks later I call back, I was then told I could not get it in my area. So I told them to cut my service off and I sent back there equipment. They took out two payments out of my account the first month .I find out only then that it is mandatory to all to pay one month in advance. So now I'm thinking I'm through with them and now they are off my back and I'll just move on and learn from this. Boy was I wrong. Besides harassment calls ect... They are claiming I owe them 400.00 dollars For canceling. Not only that they have me at the credit bureau. OH My GOD! They did not give me my locals as promised so therefore I owe them Liars now. I have had sleepiness nights because of them .The only good thing that came out of this is I was able to out smart them only once. Something told me in my gut to go close my checking account before the next monthly due date. Somehow I had this feeling they were going to try to get that 400.00 quickly. Well don't you know they did try but was denied. Always do want your gut feeling tells you to do. DIRECT TV SHOULD BE sued and taken out of business, I am trying to find options on how to fight them on this matter.But it looks like I will need a LAWYER. Thats what you will end up with if you go with them. PLEASE DON'T! This is just a little bit of my problem with them. But I hope I painted a clear enough picture for you. Besides They never sent my monthly payment in advance back. Cancellation of service
Been a customer over 7 years. Needed to cancel my service for 4 months while out of town. They charged me a 280.00 termination fee. They said I was under contract because they sent me a replacement box. I signed nothing and was told nothing. Bad Bad Bad company. Anyone wishing to obtain satellite tv should look elsewhere.
