Bait and switch!
In November of 2006 Direct TV was promoting a free Ipod if we signed up. I thought "this is too good to be true", red flag, red flag!!! But being the trusting consumers that we were, we signed up. Several months later we received an off the wall brand portable DVD player, which of course wasn't what we signed up for. I want to point out that we never broke the seal to the box. We contacted Direct TV who in turn had us call the mystery people that are supposed to supply the free Ipod. The first guy told us to keep the DVD player and that they would send out the Ipod, which never came.
So we called again and were told by another person to send the DVD back with the enclosed return shipping label, a letter of explanation, and they would then send us the Ipod. We sent the DVD player back with the seal still intact and still have not received the Ipod. I contacted Direct TV customer service today to recant my "bate & switch" story and she told me there was nothing she could do about that. It is now March 18, 2008 and still no Ipod.
I would love to hear if anyone else has encountered this same problem with Direct TV.
Robert.

Termination fee!
My service went out in january of this year (2008). They said I needed a new card. I offered to pay for overnight FEDex because I was having friends over for Football playoff games.they said it couldn't be done. i got a new card and after one week I had no service again. I spent hours on hold trying to get through to customer service. To make a long story short I had to discontinue service. They said i would be charged an early termination fee. I told them that they didn't honor their side of the commitment. I sent a registered letter to Direct TV with the details of my situation. They would respond by saying that I didn't keep my commitment with no mention of their horrible mis-handling of my situation. Without responding to my registered letter, they charged my credit card the termination fee.
I will challenge this thievery and tell everyone I know not to use Direct TV.

Direct TV should be sued!
Is anyone else fed up with the lousy customer service at Direct TV... they sell you an HD-DVR box for over $400.00 at the time of installation, then charge you a monthly fee to "lease" it from yourself, then they charge you an extra $100.00 to watch the football package in HD, then charge you another $80.00 when the signal doesn't work (which is about 2X a day!) and another $5.00 a month "protection fee", so when the service isn't what they promised it would be, you have to pay for that too. When all is said and done, you pay about $2000.00 a year to see a blank screen and "searching for signal" instead of a show or game. Great Deal! Then when you decide it's not worth it... they tell you that you've committed to a 2 year contract when "upgrading" but will gladly terminate your contract if you're not satisfied for a measley $250.00 (that they threaten to "steal" from your bank account without your authorization!!)... OH, YEAH... AND YOU HAVE TO RETURN THE BOX THEY SOLD YOU OR THEY'LL RE-CHARGE YOU FOR THAT TOO!! I've been a faithful 14 year customer, never late on a single payment, but have never been happier to say, Good-bye Direct TV... Hello Fios!!! No wonder Direct tv has to pay 50.00 to get you to recommend them! You couldn't pay me enough. By the way... THE NFL CHANNEL is FREE with FIOS. While it's not the SUNDAY TICKET... at least it doesn't cost me an EXTRA $300.00 a season to watch football in High Def! I recommend EVERYONE to google "Direct TV complaints" BEFORE upgrading to HD-DVR... I wish I did! It would've saved me a ton of money and a huge headache!

Early termination fees!
i had a Direct TV box that was not working 8/07, so when i called to see what could be done, the csr offered to send me a new one(when i balked at the fee of $19.95 and threatened to go to comcast she waived that fee) a few months later i did switch over to comcast and at that time DTV informed me that i had an early term fee as when they had sent out the box in august i had signed up for another 12 mths of DTV (in 8/07 i had been a DTV customer for 2 years), no one ever disclosed this to me and so now i am fighting them about this but they have sent it to collections and are they difficult to deal with, i would never use them again, they are robbers!!

Worst customer service!
Simple, they advertised if you signed with direct tv you would get a free DVD player. This ad was in 2007. I signed up, its march 2009 and still no DVD player. I called about it, they brushed me off to customer service in the phillipines, they were like "we don't remember having an ad". I laughed, hung up the phone.
They upgraded the software in my SET one day, the set didn't work, I called about it, they CHARGE FOR ASSISTANCE. They don't back up their product really.THEY CHARGE YOU FOR EVERY BIT THEY CAN! BEAUTIFUL, I LOVE GIVING AWAY MY MONEY!!!
Any who, being that I am to tired to get into details, direct tv works when it wants to. I cant wait to get TIME WARNER AGAIN where they come to your house, fix your problem and don't charge you for it!
DIRECT TV, I d rather put an empty box of cheerios, 2 ice cream sticks with glue together and pray to the antenna Gods to give me reception before I extend my plan with DIRECT TV.

Misrepresentation!
Contacted an internet site ordered a package. For $39.99 was contacted by a representative of Direct to confirm an institution, agreed to the date. Received a bill for $58.00 five days later called direct and was told that would be my monthly bill because I had up graded. And if I wish to cancel it would cost me $300.00 as I was locked into a 18 month contract.
I'm retired and cannot afford this amount.

Too many!
On march, 7, 2008 my husband was really happy, he was getting Direct tv!!! We are cubans and he only speaks spanish so he asked for spanish programming, someone just sold him Choice (that's only in english, so there we were stock we something he didn't wanted) after being for hours on the phone they change the plan but didn't realize the antenna wasn't right so we spent another day trying get what we were paying for, at the end of the day I was frustrated and angry and wanted to cancel the service (2nd day) but we only went from one representative to another without getting any answers or help, no one thought about the antenna until I talked to a friend and he told me maybe that was the problem, It was true (that was the problem) when I called to the company they send a technician (next day) so he changed the antenna, but all we could watch in spanish was channels for shopping (no history channel or discovery that is what my husband likes) we were not satisfied so we decided to cancel anyway, after being for hours on the phone finally we got some one who told us that we have to pay $366 .I was really disappointed so I kept calling and even wrote a complaint e-mail, the answer I receive was that I have to pay not only the fee but also the channels that were free for 3 months!!! Finally I search on the web and found this web site, I feel so bad I am not the only one that's being robbed by Direct tv, also there is not web sites like this in spanish, it's like we are more vulnerable s to this kind of scams.

Fraud and misrepresentation!
I too fell victim to Direct TV. When I ordered this service, I was told my installation was free. I had to pay a UPS shipping charge and could get a reduced price on a service agreement if I gave them a credit card number. When the installer got here, He said it would be a $200.00 charge. I immediately got on the phone for an hour and a half, being transferred around until I was finally told my UPS charge would be refunded to my acct to help offset the cost. I never was refunded my money.
I have spent countless hours on the phone trying to get resolution and voicing my opinion of how unhappy I am with their service. I finally got fed up with the whole thing and called to cancel my service. I was told they would send boxes for me to send my equipment in and I told her to send me a final bill and I would pay it. Not once did she mention hey don't worry, we are going to steal the money out of your account, but guess what... they took $501 out of my acct 4 days later. Imagine my surprise, when I was overdrawn the day after payday!!!
I talked to my bank who said this was the third time in two days, they had this problem. I have spent countless hours on the phone over the past three days (on hold, being transferred, listening to robots talk in circles) finally being told that the contract I signed gave them permission to do this: however they cannot produce a contract I signed!!! I can write a bill dispute dept in CO, but they don't have a phone. How ridiculous is that?
The last witch I talked to told me boxes had not even been sent yet for me to return my equipment and that they took the banking info from my payments to deduct this money. Since I was never given the chance to pay this bill, and they took it upon themselves to take whatever they wanted out of my acct, I am furious. This is robbery and it is no different than me using my card somewhere and them turning around and stealing money out of my acct. This is wrong and it has left me feeling lied to, cheated, stole from raped, and hung out to dry!!! Is there any justice left in this world???
I want to do something to expose them as the crooks they are but I don't know where to go from here...Can someone please help? I'm thinking class-action lawsuit.

Very poor service!
Direct TV offers no service. With out most HD channels for months. Now no tv at all. Keeps searching for a non existent signal. Have Verizon for home phone, internet and the tv. you can't even file a complaint against them as they lead you down one rabbit trail after another. They don't want to hear it or fix it. The worst service of any company I have ever dealt with. Will give them the boot as soon as I can get another service. No one else can be this bad. Some government agency needs to get involved and go after this company.

Liars and crooks
hello
Last year I opened an account with Direct tv had no problems intell about two months later I recieved a phone call saying i was behind two months on my bill. I told them there is no way I am late. I dont own anything intell Dec 2007. so we went back and forth and I told them that when I signed up that I would get 4 months free service. well they basically said I was not tell the truth. so they tried offering me showtime for 3 months and some other stupied thing but I still had to pay the back pay. so then my direct tv got shut off because I didnt have it paid in time. I never recieved anything in the mail for the bill because they had my address wrong. this gets better trust me!!! So then I got a paper from my bank saying I was over drawn on my account. come to find out they stole money out of my account. so I called direct tv and asked why they took money out of my account unathorized. the lady said that i sign some form saying they could take the money out. I told her no I didnt and you would be hearing from my bank. so I had to go to the bank cancel my debit card and get a new one. plus if i wanted money I had to use checks and drive to the bank to get money out of my account. so for 2 months of service its been a living hell!!!
