Disconnection Fees
In September of 2008 I called Direct TV for service. They told me on the phone that there was no two-year contract. They said all I had to do was to sign for the equipment that was brought to my house. After a little over a year, I wanted to discontinue thier service because they kept adding fees and more and more money to my bill. I had to call them every month to fix my bill. After a year, they up my bill $40 dollars on top of what I was already paying and said that my contract was only good for a year. They charged me over $200 for discontinueing the service and they took it out of my bank account without my permission. I want my money back and all the fees that they charged me over a year.

DISASTER
WE HAD DIRECT TV FOR A YEAR AND LAST WEEK WE SUDDENLY LOST THE SIGNAL. CALLED DIRECT TV AND THEY SENT A TECHNICIAN FROM MOBILE PRO ON FRIDAY TO CHECK THE SIGNAL AND BRING A NEW HD BOX. THE TECHNICIAN SPENT HOURS IN THE HOUSE AND ON THE ROOF WITHOUT BEING ABLE TO CONNECT ANYTHING AND DRILLED OUR WINDOWS WITHOUT OUR CONSENT. THE IDIOT DID NOT EVEN SEE THE EXISTING FIBEROPTIC LINES AND OUTLETS ON THE WALL THAT WAS ALREADY CONNECTED TO THE OTHER DIRECT TV BOX. ON TOP OF THAT HE LEFT THE ROOF LATCH OPEN AND WITH THE WITH THE RAIN ON SATURDAY THE HALLWAYS FLOODED! WE CALLED THEM THE SAME AFTERNOON AND THE SUPERVISOR PROMISED TO COME IN THE NEXT DAY AND FIX EVERYTHING AND KEPT US IN THE HOUSE ALL DAY AND NEVER SHOWED UP. WHEN WE CALLED DIRECT TV ON MONDAY THEIR COMPUTERS SHOWED THAT THE SYSTEM WAS WORKING AND CASE CLOSED!
NEVER USE DIRECT TV OR ANY OF THEIR TECHNICIANS. COMPLETE RIP-OFF AND UNPROFESSIONALS.

misrepresentation of rebate
I wsigned up back in October for a "Direct Tv Win back Offer", they where to reimburse mee up to 200.00 for my cnacellatoipn fee incurred with Dish Network for chagnign my Satlelite provider abck to Direct Tv. I called direct TV 4 times to inquire about the 200.00 visa card they where soppsoe to send me, was passed from one person to the next, everyone giving me a different story and different instructions on how to ge tthis taken care of and now today 12/13/10 they tell em I do not quality for this?? How can I not quality for it when that was the offer that i signed up with ? i ahve all the notes I made when signing up taht ahs the offer number, everything. Now I'm out 240.00 for cancelling a service I wasn't unhappy with to begin with.

Misleading Contract
Direct Tv contacted me over my cell phone because I called them for a quote. When I got the call they had offered me the channels Dish Network has offered including my FSC (Foc Soccer Channel). Also, the reason I said OK because they offered also to install all of my other rooms at no charge including receivers. When the day of install came, obviously my house took a little more time to hook up the cables. From the minumim of three hours it took him 6hours and I dont blame him. He rushed out my house forgetting his wires, jacket and also mentioned the cable satilite is still uploading some channels. A couple of days later I had time to get to know my channels and found out FSC is not part of my package deal. They call it the Sports channel and it's an extra $10.00 a month. I spoke to three people on the phone till I got to speak to the Supervisor "JIMMY" ans said we are very sorry for the misunderstanding on my part. I said it's your CS who mislead me to buy this package so you own me my channel. The supervisor offered 6 months at half the price and I declined because they put me on a 2 year contract and it would cost me a little over $400.00 to cancel. In one week I'm already DISAPPOINTED with Direct TV. Shame on you Direct TV. You asked for my buisness and I gave it to you so honor your mistake.

Fraud
Direct TV told me if I moved to a place where I was unable to use there service that I would be let out of my contract. I have just reviewed the FCC rules and I have no Common areas at my new address. It is in the middle of downtown, no patios or anyplace to put a dish! Thursday night they fraudulently accessed my bank account for an amount over $300 dollars of which $200 was an early termination fee. I have never given them access to my account but my bank says this is a legal transaction. I can't wait to see the paperwork I supposedly signed for that! I have filed a complaint with the FCC and am waiting to hear. I am also going to complain to AARP as I am a senior on a fixed income and $300 is a lot of money to me. Stay far, far away from this company.

Hidden Charges, Wrong Info, Excuses
DIrect TV entices you at low prices, then on the first bill, you get all the hidden charges. They tell you you can exchnage your digital to HD, was told that by the installer as well, 2 months after I get subscribe I get a HD tv now they want $99, for the box $49 install, $49 for being a new customer, finally got them to give me the box for free but they wanted 3 months of bill up front and they will credit me for 3 months, told me cant do it any other way. Well I gave the the 3 months, I got the credit for three months got a an appointment for the install, waited all day, no call no show, called C.S, told me no order was placed, and my credit card was not billed, I had to show proof, i went on line ans sure enough my card was billed. Now They say they could redo it but I need to pay 3 months up front again. I SPENT 2 DAYS AND ALMOST 4 HRS ON THE PHONE FIGHTING WITH THEM, I HATE DIRECT TV, I WANT THEM OUT OF MY HOUSE, AND I WILL NEVER REFER THIS WORLESS COMPANY TO ANYONE, THE UNDERCOVER BOSS NEEDS TO GO BACK AGAIN...

Automatic Withdrawl from Account
Please be aware that once you sign up for Direct TV and pay your bill through their website that they have your account information on file. Therefore, if at any time you decide to cancel your service they will automatically withdraw the amount from your account without any notice at all. They do not allow time for payment arrangements and once the money is taken from your account there is no possible way to get it back even if you do not agree with the charges. I suggest you choose a cable company that does not require a contract.

practices
As a previous customer of Direct TV for more than four years I find appalling the practice of deducting money from our bank account when no one was authorized to do so. We had recently resubscribed to Direct TV and shortly afterward lost my job. We had to suspend our service while we waited for unemployment and to get caught up on our other bills. Now, two weeks before Christmas I find all of the money deducted from my bank account, $500.00. I am going to do everything in my power to get this practice given media attention. Yes, I do owe the company money, and yes I fully intend to pay it. But when faced with job loss and financial obligations cable television does not come before feeding my family.
Thanks Direct TV, for making that decision for me. Now if my kids get hungry they can at least watch pretty images of people eating Christmas dinner!

Refer a friend
DIRECT TV is the WORST company out there when it comes to customer service! Bar none!

So, my mother used my account number to sign up as a new customer and get the refer a friend promo. You've seen the commercials, right? Refer a friend get $100. Well, she was told she needed to make a deposit before anything was even approved. She did. Then when no one had contacted her for weeks she called them to see what was going on. They told her that my account was in collections and that her deposit was being applied to MY bill. They weren't even going to tell her!

First of all, my account was never even disconnected. I may have been a few days late on payment as I am often busy and forget to pay this particular bill. But I always do pay it in the end and have NEVER seen any sort of collections notice or anything like that and at this time I still had uninterrupted service.

Secondly, since when is your mother liable for your bills? Spouse? Okay... but a parent? What the heck??? I am in my thirties and own my own home why would she be responsible for my bill?

Thirdly, what about confidentiality? As a service provider aren't they being held accountable for violating people's rights? Just curious. Guess when you give a friend your account number they get all your personal info over the phone via customer service rep?

They refused to give her deposit back. So my pissed off and panicked mother called me and scolded me. So I paid it right away. Then they finally (after much hassling) gave her the deposit back. How embarrassing and horrible! All this just to get $100 applied to your bill over a ten month period! $10 a month off your bill? What a waste of time! I hate them so much! You should have seen the e-mail I got when I complained!!! AHHHHH!!!
When I first signed up with them years and years ago they were supposed to give me a rebate. It took no less than two years, numerous letters threatening legal action and a few visits to the better business bureau before I finally got it. I searched online and thousands of other people NEVER got it at all. DO NOT give these scam artists your business! They have no respect for their customer's satisfaction or for their privacy.
Plese tell your friends!

Deplorable service
I spent THREE AND A HALF HOURS THIS MORNING ON THE PHONE WITH DIRECT TV AND THE RECEIVER PROBLEM I CALLED ABOUT IS STILL NOT RESOLVED! I am on my THIRD receiver in the course of one year the current one received 9/2/10. It spontaneously deletes recorded shows, it does not record scheduled shows, it literally goes biserk and switches from station to station on its own, and last night it shut down. My call was to get a new receiver and considering the problems I've experienced and their new promotions, I asked what they could do for me. If the answer was nothing, I told them would being canceling my service. I talked to Jennifer, Fred (who sold me a big fat lie), Courtney, Ms. Piabla (Courtney's supposed supervisor NOT and that the deal Fred gave me she refused to), Priscilla (who told me Piabla was NOT a supervisor, and that she had to VERIFY the information I told her (in essence I was lying) and finally she told me I would have to wait for Case Management to call me to resolve the receiver issue. Rich called and told me to wipe the memory -- software issue NOT. These receivers are refurished pieces of crap! That's that. THIS COMPANY IS HORRIBLE, DISRESPECTFUL AND LIES -- EVERYTIME TIME I SPOKE WITH SOMEONE I GOT A DIFFERENT STORY. BYE BYE DIRECT TV!
