Unauhorized Withdrawl
We had moved out of our home, and cancelled our service with Direct TV. Over a year went by. Recently, we noticed they took out $809 out of our bank account. When we called them, although they have on record that we cancelled, they were charging us the monthly charge for service. When they finally, after 76 phone calls, they admitted their error. Then they said it would be 6-8 weeks for the refund to be processed. We have been calling every day to speak to a Manager. They even refused to let me speak to someone abovve an entry level supervisor. Today we call again. Now they are saying that the refund will be in the form of a check. I absolutely loathe Direct TV. My wife and I agreed that when the refund check does come, we will use that money to rent a billboard stating the fact that "Direct TV stole our money".

Billing
I emailed Direct Tv about 2mos ago that I was having problems paying bill and asked if they could put a hold on my account until I get caught up. I don't watch tv much but still wanted to keep Direct-Tv once I was able to pay. Tuesday I received a Fed-Ex box to return my receiver. I called direct tv and told them that I did not want to cancel and told them about my email. THey told me I should have called to "suspend" my service and then asked me to pay the entire $284 due. I told them I was a single parent with a only 1 income and child support has been sparce. I asked them if I could make a $30 payment for now. They told me they CANNOT help me. I was almost begging them, I'm robbing Peter to pay Paul and Peter's funds are low. I told them eventually they would be loosing a customer because I will be going to cable. They still could not help. Today I looked at my account and they credited my account $384, which put in in the negative along with other bills that will be bouncing. I called and they could not help out, once again. I asked if I could go on sometype of payments. "No monthly payments". Once the receiver is received they will credit my account $125 for the receiver. I told them I just got the fed-ex box on tuesday to return the receiver and asked if they could give at least a week to receive it. I'm a single mother doing everything and was going to return the receiver on Friday. Could not help. THANKS DIRECT TV FOR NOTHING!

Fraud
I am looking to sue Direct TV. My complaint is not much different than everybody else on here from inaccurate billing to the wrong service package to no service at all. I have spent countless hours dealing with customer service and have received no resolution. Please contact me if anybody else is also looking to sue or has already moved forward. [email protected]

Fraudulent withdrawal
direct tv chargrd my account 665.90 on 10/19/09 without my authorization. As far as i'm concerned this company have committed fraud. I see from other complaints thatb thisis common practice with Direct TV. So far I have been told that my account will be credited I no longer have any trust with direct tv. I will be reporting this to the Attorney General and filing a formal complaint to seek criminal charges.

Charging me after cancellation
I cancelled my service with direct TV because I signed a 2 year agreement with Dish Network in September 2008. I sent back the Direct TV equipment and received the proper credit. In March of 2009 my Direct TV had reinstated my account and charged my verizon phone bill (thats how I paid Direct TV in the past)...I called Verizon and they directed me to call Direct TV to fix this problem. Spoke to a rep from Direct TV who said that my account was cancelled and everything was credited and it will reflect on my next Verizon phone bill. My april phone bill came and now it had $247.00 in charges from Direct TV. I called Direct TV and was told it was a mistake and my credit would reflect on my next phone bill. So I continued to see this charge month after month on my phone bill and only paid for my phone and internet services. Last week the phone company disconnected both my phone and internet services until I paid this outstanding balance of $247.00 plus a reinstatement charge. Afraid that these false charges would ruin my credit and I needed my phone and internet, I had to pay it.
When I first found out about my phone being disconnected I started e-mailing Direct TV (6 total) My complaint to them: I cancelled my service in September of 2008 because I signed a 2 year agreement with Dish Network. Direct TV's reply was that I only suspended my service for 6 months and never cancelled my account. Now why would I send back all my equipment only to have my service reinstated???...With NO EQUIPMENT!!! WTF?? They claim to have sent me e-mails explaining this and that I agreed to all of this...and this is completely false!!! I requested phone records with me agreeing to only suspend my service...this is so wrong!!! I have no words for how this makes me feel because it is such bullshit and now I am out $247 + and Direct TV has no intention of paying me back...

Erroneous Final Charges
I cancelled service with Direct TV over 3 months ago with a zero account balance. Approx two weeks later I receieved an erroneous charge of $420 to my personal checking account for an early cancellation fee. After three phone calls I finally had them acknowledge this was an erroneous charge and they agreed to refund my money. However, after waiting numerous weeks without a refund I phoned again. This time to find out I now had a $575 balance due on my account. The explanation was they had not recieved my 6 units. I explained I had sent them by FedEx in the boxes Direct TV sent to me. I provided them their own FedEx shipping numbers. They informed me I had to track the shipment myself. This I did and found out that "Jose", employee of Direct TV, had signed for the boxes 3 weeks prior. It then took me two additional calls to finally get someone to verify they found the boxes. I was then told to phone back within 7 days to make certian they credited my account. Further, they said I should also receive an email notifiying me of the credit. I received nothing and phoned back in 9 days only to find out that the account was "still under review" an that it would be "approximately another 6 weeks before a credit would be applied to my account." I can't not believe a company can continue with such poor customer service. They erroneously took $420 cash from my account and it will take them close to 5 months (maybe???) to reimburse me. Stand by to stand by on the status of this one...

Business Ethics
After completing my contract with Direct Tv I discontinued service in early July. I was on automatic payments 6 months prior to discontinuing service, then I switch to internet transactions. My bill was current when I discontinued service in early July. I had moved the Tv when I disconnected and had never reconnected any service. Been watching Hulu, so anyway I received an empty box in the mail last week, all it had with it was an address label shipping to Direct Tv. I wasn't sure what it was about but this was thursday Oct 8th I was very busy. ON friday Oct. 9th Direct Tv withdrew $310 from my checking account for the receiver, which I had no knowledge until the following monday on the 12th. The only reason I knew there was a problem was because my card was declined for Insuffient funds at the grocery store. This was Colombus day and I had just made a deposit so I was freaking out someone had hacked my bank account. I quickly cancelled my card, and called the bank monday morning. They told me it was Direct Tv doing an automatic debit withdrawl, and even after I tried to have them return the payment they wouldn't. I then called Direct Tv, not only had they done what they did that friday, but they also said I owed them for 3 months of service, because somehow they never received my cancellation request?!?! Are u serious? In three months I had not received a bill nothing, and I have lived where I am for 11 years! I have never had something like this happen. The lady at the bank told me, this is becoming a regular business practice, I have to close this account now and never allow direct payments again to make sure this doesn't happen again. This should be illegal.

you are screwed once you are a customer
Direct TV states that you will not have problem with receptions during bad weathers. But I have experiece reception problems everytime there are strong winds, and rain. When I call customer service, they said that it is stated in their contracts that heavy storms are exceptions. They also determines what is
a heavy storm, not you. Once you sign a contract with them, you are pretty much screwed. Can't get out, won't get any help or try to satify you as a customer in anyway. Their only priority is get new customers. Don't do business with Direct TV. You have been warned, they make everything sound good, and are accommidating to all your needs until you sign the contract. After that, good luck trying to get help from them.

Unauthorized billing
My husband and I were out of work and fell behind in our bills. We did not cancel Direct TV but they turned off our service. Two months after turning our service off they sent us empty boxes with no letter attached. We looked at our bank account and the had withdrawn $787.00 the same day. That was the money we had saved for rent after being unemployed. We did not have any money left to even spend for gas. They would not assist us and our bank (Bank of America) would not get involved since it was a debit card charge. We did not authorized it. Direct TV refused to assist us saying that it is on their website and we participate in their service. We immediately shipped the receivers and request they return the money for the receivers but refused and was very rude on the phone. She left me on hold and then hung up on me when she thought I was no longer there.
