They mess up, I pay
After having Direct Tv for about 18 months I moved and Direct TV was unable to get a signal at my new address. Due to this I would not be charged an early termination fee. They informed me I had 90 days to return the equipment(which the Direct TV guy couldn't take with him for some reason). 24 days after that conversation Direct TV charged my debit card $563. When I called them I was told I had only 21 days to return the equipment. They admitted their notes showed I was told 90 days and said I wouild be refunded in 72 hours and they would send me a new box to send back the equipment. 4 days later when they had not returned my money I called them and was told my Direct TV account was credited but the actual refund would take 6-8 weeks. $563 FOR 6-8 WEEKS. I was told "one" person made a mistake and there was absolutley NOTHING they could do to return the money sooner. I told the floor manager this was not only unacceptable but unbelievable. The response was silence. DIRECT TV IS SHADY... DO NOT GIVE THEM DEBIT CARDS. GIVE THEM A CREDIT CARD YOU CAN DISPUTE.

Billing
Direct TV will automatically take any money out of your account WITHOUT your permission because it is in the fine print of your clause. Plus they make you sign up for a certain amount of time and if you try to cancel, then they charge you up the butt in hidden fees! They are crooks! Why do I have to sign up for a specific time frame? Who knows what can happen in life? what if you get sick and have to move somewhere else? Then to add injury to insult, you have to pay disconnection fees at a high ridiculous price! All they do is is route your service & they get their ugly equipment back so why should they care if you discontinue it?
They also have such crappy programmers that they can't convert the time from East to West so you are always ahead when you are on the west coast! So if your friends tell you to watch syfy because there is something good on, forget it! it already happend 3 hours again. They suck big time!
They need to take lessons on customer service!

Early Termination Fee
I have had Direct TV since 2005 and fullfilled my 2 year contrzct obligation. In Dec 2008 I called to get a HD DVR. I was told that because I had been a good customer I could purchase the DVR for $99.99. At that time I was told when I asked that I would not be locked into a new contract. I paid for the DVR and they set up a time for installation. The tech came installed I signed his work order for the installation and he left. I decided that I cannot afford to keep the service and would like to cancel it. When I called them they are telling me that I signed a new 2 year contract when I got the new DVR. I have asked for a copy of the contract that I signed but they say they cannot provide me one and I would have to go through the company that did the install which they told me was Ironwood Communications. I asked for the phone number which they told me they do not have as they are not allowed to speak with them. They told me it is a valid point the extension. Isee there are many complaints on this same issue. I am cancelling my service and I am not paying any type of fee. I will instruct my bank not to authorize any payment to them as I pay through my phone company and they assured me they cannot give out my financial information. I think they impose very unfair business practices and something needs to be done. I cannot find any ironwood communications to prove anything. Direct TV must be stopped. Thier bullying practices must come to an end.

STAY AWAY FROM DIRECT TV AT ALL COSTS!!!
I signed up for Direct TV as a bundled option through QWest in Iowa City. The Qwest rep never said the Direct TV contract was for 24 months and that you can't cancel. Now I'm stuck with Direct TV for 24 months and I won't even be living in the USA after next summer! Their customer service is horrible and would do nothing to help me and one of the boxes they sent doesn't even work. They sent me a new box and reset it, then all of the other boxes didn't work. I'm still waiting for their tech support person to call me back to fix the rest of the boxes. This is absolutely the WORST TV company in the USA if not the world. Horrible customer service, deceptive and junk electronics. STAY AWAY FROM DIRECT TV AT ALL COSTS!!!

Awful Customer Service
This company is terrible. We scheduled an appointment to transfer our service since we moved. When the 3 technicians arrived, they discovered that the previous homeowners had cut the line outside the house and that they needed to rewire. For 3 techs this should not have been hard but they said they had other appointments to keep and that they would be back that evening when they were done. Needless to say, they didn't show so I called the technicians, as they had left their number, and they said that I would have to call Direct TV and schedule another appointment! When I called Direct TV they offered me an appointment in 6 days. I explained to them that this was unacceptable and was not my fault that the job did not get finished the first time. I informed them that if they did not have a technician at my house by the next day, I would cancel the service and due to poor customer service, should not have to pay the contract cancellation fee. The woman I spoke to finally agreed and said that she would take care of that. After about 3 weeks, I received a bill for the 2 days with no service and an early termination fee in excess of $300. When my husband called to discuss the bill he was told that there was no record of my conversation with the rep. (although the service was cancelled during the same phone call) and that it would take them 2 weeks to "look into it". Today, I received a prerecorded message from Direct TV on my cell phone stating that I need to contact them- (a real person couldn't call?) Anyway, after 1 1/2 hours on the phone with them they refuse to remove the termination fee.
We now have Cox Cable (they were at our house within 2 hours of calling) and we are perfectly happy. I will NEVER recommend Direct TV to anyone. They SUCK!

Cancellation fee is $460!!!
Direct TV is awful company! I started having service from Aug15 and decide to cancel on Aug/27. There are several reasons to cancel.
1) Bill amount
Sales representative told me over phone that the bill is ~$45/month for 1st year because of discount, but they charged me $79.63!!. When I saw my bill, I figured it out those discount will be done by rebate program that I've never been explained.
2) Poor service and quality
a) They don't have enough international channel
b) Recording system(program, capacity etc) is no good at all
So I decided to cancel Direct TV and switch to Net Dish.
At the end, Direct TV guys told me they will charge $460 cancellation fee because I signed the 2 Yrs contract (I didn't know that at all). They also told me that I could cancel within 24 hours (!) after instollation, then they wouldn't charge me. How can we cancel within 24 hours to know if service are good or bad???
I can definitely say that NetDish is much much better than Direct TV that I had before.
If you know any tip to avoid paying cancellation fee, please please let me know.
Thank you

Deceptive Sales Practices
I have been a Direct TV customer for almost two months and I am shocked a company is allowed to operate in the manner it does in todays business world. The problem is I was misled and lied to by the salesperson, there has not been a misunderstanding, but out-right lies. The salesperson was the only person that was a direct TV employee that I had communication with about Direct TV, the installer was a contractor, until I had problems.
I was told by the salesman to call-in and report outages, anytime, and a credit would be issued, LIE no. 1. Further, I was told by the salesperson and the installer that I could add a new receiver anytime for just a $5 monthly fee increase, LIE no. 2. Finally, I was told by the installer, who I have the installation ticket, that the monthly service protection plan fee that I pay each month and do so by signing up for at installation that all future call-outs, repair or installation were and are covered under this plan, LIE. 3.
The truth is you must have lost service for 24 hours to receive any credit, period. I found out tonight 8/26/09, that yes there is a $5 monthly fee for adding a receiver, but you, or just I, must pay $50 for a service call and a $25 connection fee, this is also tied to LIE no. 3. Lastly, as I stated the previous sentence, there is a $50 service call fee for a receiver installation. Now why am I paying a monthly fee, over $5 for a policy that covers all service calls and fees applicable on those calls?
Please spread the word, negative WOM (Word Of Mouth) is the most effective, honest, and positive form of advertising in the world, positive or negative. Tell your friends, family, children, neighbors, pastor, teachers, everyone you know to stay away from Direct TV. This company is an example of all that is true of false, misleading, and evasive business practices. I do hope, and also that you and all who read this and spread the word, that we are able to somehow affect Direct TV's income stream in some way. If you spread the word and follow what you spread!, and all those who hear from you or from who you told, then Direct TV might change if they notice, lets say, , , 25% decrease in income, then they might change their practices and also reimburse those of us who have been wronged by this company.
Thank you,
Patrick Hayden

FEE's
Offered deal of $49.00 per month with rebait. Charged $75.00 per month for 5 months contacted them several times and was told that the rebait takes time. After that I cancelled the service and went back to Comcast. Today when I looked at my bank account I was charged $440.00 for disconnect fee's against my debit card without my permission which has over drawn my account and I have checks bouncing, I have never been taken advantage of in this way by a major utility and am so angry I find myself hoping that Direct TV goes out of business.

Terrible customer service
When you call for what ever the problem may be. They might note that you called they might not. I cancelled my service and paid my last bill. Well.. they had no record of my call and charged me two extra months and claimed the service was still on. I was moving and this was the only way to get my boys out of the house... no TV. I checked the TV and so did the boys... no service! They charged movies to me that were never ordered and couldn't be ordered because I never put a phone line to them. As far as I am concerned I would never recommend their service to anyone.
