Dish Network Reviews

Awful company
All I want to say to future customers is STAY AWAY FROM DISH NETWORK, NO MATTER HOW GOOD THEY SAY IN THE ADS -it's a scam.

Here is my experience after nearly 12 month of service: First they locked me in a contract for 18 months. Then, the first month bill showed numerous hidden charges (took me several hours of phone calls to dispute them off). Then after a few months, they increased monthly fee for several dollars more (while the contract is still in effect), and shamelessly explained that it's required by your state. After further confronting, they changed the reason to "due to increase in programming fee" and insisted that in the contract, they have the right to change the programming fees and charge you more. What a joke!

Pause policy/erroneous charge
For approx 4 years I have had Dish Network, used primarily with a mobile unit or dish for our motorhome. When traveling we would call and ask them to activate the account, when not we would not. This was called a "pause". Again, have had it for approx 4 years.

In June of 2008 I received a bill for $174.88 - after hours on the phone it turns out that if I did not activate the account within 6 months I would be bill for a previous program charge. They told me that I had agreed to this and that this was on tape. I said I had not and they told me they could not find any record of my account prior to January of 2008. I tried to cancel the account, they told me I would have to speak to someone else (yet another hour on the phone probably). This charge is erronous and I want to cancel the account and will go probably with Direct TV. Any assistance you could provide would be helpful.

Thank you.

Was charged $10 per month for non hook up of telephone line to TV
I have been Charged $10 per month
for 2 years now for refusing to hook up telephone lines to two TV's. I feel this charge is fraudulent and they owe this money back .
Has anyone else out there had this same problem?

Awful customer service
I was recently calling around to inquire about tv service alternatives to cable. I spoke with Direct TV, Verizon and Dish Network and provided each with the information that they claimed they needed to see what I qualified for so I could make an informed decision as to what direction I would go. The following day I discovered that Dish Network had charged my bank account $199.00 although I had never ordered service or authorized them to do so. This caused over $175.00 in overdraft charges and though they said that they would refund the $199.00 they would do nothing about the overdraft fees that their error caused. Trying to get anything done about it at all was a long frustratingly drawn out affair and offered very little satisfaction. I would recommend that anyone considering doing business with this company to reconsider do to their fraudulent practices and extremely poor customer service.

Harrassment
HELP ME TO GET DISH NETWORK TO STOP CALLING ME!! I am chronically ill & unable to leave my home most days. I have been getting harassing calls from Dish since this summer. The calls are now 2-3 times weekly. Every time I get a call, I call the 1-800 # listed on Dish website. I have spoke to many rude people who do not take any responsiblity for calls representing Dish Network. They ensure me that I am on their DO NOT CALL list & I have added myself to the national DNC. On 10-03-08 I spoke with a Dish Network employee Rubin Perea whom claimed to be in the DNC dept. Operator ID-4YI. His desk # 720-514-7637. I also have the number to a 3rd party call center that sales Dish via spoof numbers. Their return # 866-512-4714, I mostly got hang ups when I called and questioned why will Dish not stop calling me??? I live in a condo & could not even install a dish if I wanted. I don't know what else to do besides spreading the word about this horribly ran company. FYI- I have a log of each phone call for over the past month now.

Overcharged
We have dish net work since June 2007. Since the first day we are having trouble with dish net work every month they charged more amount then was told by there representative at the time of signing of contract. We have to call dish network every month to get our bill corrected. The same can be verified from our account. After many calls with company their representative told us that our bill will be for $24.95 everything included but they are billing us more than $30.00. Even the person who called for signing told us that our contract will expire in October 2008. But when we called dish net work representative we were told that our contract will expire in January. Why their representatives who made us to sign the contract lied to us. Is this the dishnet work policy to say something and do something. We were glad that we will have no more pain dealing with dishnetwork but were disappointed to hear that we have to bear with those people 3 more month i.e. up to January 2008. Is it possible we can get rid from this company because we want to switch to comcast who have best service and they never lied to us we enjoyed comcast before we started dish net work. We share our bad experience of dishnet with our relatives and friend and even with those people whom we don't know. And we have decided to put dishnet work policies in newspapers and consumer protection forum so that the innocent people like us should suffer no more. We are paying more then was told and are wasting our time dealing with that company who tell something and do something.

THEY WILL NOT LET YOU LEAVE
Words can not described how annoyed I was with Dish Network's customer service. Shortly after signing the service contract, we purchased an HD TV. I tried to upgrade our service, however, they wanted to charge us a $200 upgrade fee on top of an extra $20 per month. Many other providers were offering similar packages with free upgrades, etc...however. if we cancelled our service with Dish Network, we would pay a $250 fee.

Long story short, we waited over 1 YEAR to FINALLY get rid of these jerks and I COULD NOT BELIEVE HOW I WAS TREATED BY THEM ON THE PHONE!!! I simply called to have our service discontinued, our bills were all up to date so this should've been easy, right?? WRONG!

The "customer service specialist" was the beyond the most rudest person I've even talked to, I could not believe how they were talking to me. In fact, when I asked how the dish on our roof (which was installed by them on our roof which is very steep and stands more then 3 stories from the ground), the a-hole had the balls to say "sir, didn't I just tell you we woud include a PACKING LIST"... I nearly dropped my phone in a raging fury of f-bombs... this after 20 minutes of this jerk trying to swindle me into staying with them and paying the $200 upgrade fee for no reason?? CMON! The most rudest, most self serving and by far the most condiscending bunch of pr***s I've even had the dis-priviledge of coming across.

Anyways, thank you very much for your posts - all the horror stories on returning equipment I've decided to pay the UPS fee myself and get MY OWN TRACKING numbers AND INSURANCE... the $25 is well worth not getting a bill or debit from my account for $500 two months from now for "unreturned equipment" which I'll have no means of proving one way or the other.

There were just as many horror stories about Direct TV too which I was JUST ABOUT TO GET myself into, same mess... except found out they require 2 YEARS of commitment., and to think I almost started this nightmare all over.

THANK YOU CONSUMERS FOR YOUR POSTS and BEWARE OF THESE COMPANIES!!! Knowledge is power, and don't kick yourself later, do your homework now.

We're getting AT&T... not as many HD channels, but same price and whoppee - I CAN CANCEL AT ANYTIME, whoa that maean they might actually have to treat people with dignity rather than cancellation fee scare tactics.

Terrible experience
Dish Network customer service is the worst. I have been having problems with my DISH service for many months (i.e., not getting all channels despite clear weather, clear path to the sky, good setup, etc.). I have called them numerous times to get them to resolve the situation. All troubleshooting was performed including an inspection of cables, wiring, etc. No problems. Whenever I requested that they send out a technician, they indicated that I would have to pay $50 for it.

Yesterday (09/27/2008), I had enough. I refused and asked them to send out a technician to resolve the problem without charge. First, they said they would not do that. I then told them to cancel my service.

Next they offered to split the cost of the technician with me if I signed up for additional subscription services. I refused and told them to cancel my service.

Next, they offered to send out a technician for free. I said forget it, I was done negotiating and to cancel my account. The representative was so freaked out that they "escalated" my call to another representative.

After I explained the situation, they offered to: (1) Send out a free technician; (2) and give me $10 off my bill for 6 months. I said, "no" and asked them to cancel my service. They asked me what I wanted? I told them, they would need to give me at least 3 months of free service. Guess what? They relented and offered: (1) three (3) months of free service; (2) $10 off my bill for 6 months; and (3) an equipment upgrade for free; and (4) a free technician.

Why couldn't they just offer the free technician at the beginning instead of playing this little game? I told them to cancel my service. They then asked what they could do. I said, "Give me 6 months of free service, " in addition to the above. They refused, but begged me to stay. I said, no, and asked them to cancel my service.

Needless to say, my service has been canceled. However, before I even called them I made sure that I had already signed up for cable television and had it installed. Before I terminated with DISH, I wanted to give them one last chance. They responded by trying to *** me around. After being a loyal DISH customer for 6 years, and paying them nearly $4000, they couldn't give me a $300 credit to keep me as a customer.

In addition, their customer service representative was very rude and kept interrupting me. I asked to speak to a supervisor and they had me on hold for 20 minutes while she "looked for one." When I explained it to a supervisor, he said, "Point taken." That was it.

Stupid idiots! I'm not paying them any more money, and have gone back to cable. The service is much better, no problems to missing channels and I can surf much faster. I am much happier. If you are having any problems with DISH, simply threaten to cancel your service and they will suddenly bow down and offer you the brass ring.

I hope they lost all of their customers and go out of business!
