Dollar General Reviews

very poor management
first of all there were 20 of us temporally hired to build shelves and stock them with all the items. The mgr.they sent to supervise all this had alot more on his mind when it came to the girls.I bet theres a few dissapointed ones that spent the nite in his motel that did not get the job. I really dont think thats fair to the other girls that have morals or to me since i'm a guy.And how funny would it be if you were on a latter and he sneaks around the corner and pretends like hes gonna push it over. His excuse for this action was to sharpin your skills on being aware of other people walking by. If thats how its done I never want a job working on a latter. Now lets get to the regular mgr. There must be an mgr employment line in the getto, because thats the way she dresses and thinks.when we started because of her relocating we loaned her $200 that she promised to pay back when she got her check.Well she kept telling us someone kept losing it, but finally after over 2 week we finally got it back.I really liked working to see if I would make it to the final 8 people to be hired and when I went in the office to get the job all I could do is lie and tell her I had a better offer. As bad as I need a job I just don't think I could ever work there.Dont get us wrong, we shop at dollar in Cashiers N.C. with Chris and all the friendly people there and in brevard N.C with Eric and his people but we will tell all our friends to never shop in rosman till someone with a personallity can run a store like the others

manager
Manager of Dollar General in Gilman, IL hired the guy that was living with her for starters. He has back problems he sits behind the register on a chair when he does show up for work. He treats the customers with no respect. The manager has no respect for the customers she only shows up for work a few hours a week. My mom was in a long line while the manager stood at the other register and visited with friends instead of opening up her register. Her and the guy she hired are usually outside smoking and leaving no other workers inside. I was in there, they were both outside so I had the run of the store. Some one else said they did it to them also. You can see them both outside when ya drive by it's a small town so people drive by all the time. My friend was in there and the manager opened her register to check out her friends closed the register in front of my friend and said she was closed she would have to go to the other side in a long line. The manager then proceded to go outside with her friends and smoke and visit...

I think they should be fired !!!

dang didn't know you could put photos I will get some and do this again

Work
I've not been employed with the company very long, and while I am still employed I have noticed more than a few things that send warnings off in my head. We are insanely short staffed, when I began my job I couldn't for the life of me figure out why they had no employees. The managers of the store I work at were more than polite as was the other Cashier, however thing's have began to reveal themselves to me slowly.

1. If you dare complain about the company ( I.E. Not getting breaks when you are meant to they will find any logical reason they can to let you go.)
2. Open packages within the store, If Loss Prevention notices them before you happen to, they will let you go with the accusation that you are the source.
3. If you are lucky enough to get a break, and happen to be stuck in a line and open you're drink before paying, they will let you go regardless on if you pay for it after the fact.
4. Customer is always right, it doesn't matter if you've caught them stealing or not.

I have had my life threatened more than once while working at this establishment and each time it is brushed off with the " The customer is right" alway's trailing in tow.

We have Outside management because the original management has been let go, with no real logical reasoning behind it of course.

I am really at a loss on what to do.

The Penis Problem
My store manager sent me a picture text message of her husband's penis that she made to resemble a face. I didn't text her back.

Overworked, Underpaid and ABUSED!
I've been working for Dollar General for nearly two years now. I've put my blood, sweat, and tears into this job (litterally). From the moment I applied for this job to the present I've been abused. It all started with my first store manager. She hired me in November of 2007 but wouldn't let me start until January of 2008. And never informed me of health benefits even when I asked. She finally told me that I was eligable for Cigna. But ofcoarse, by that time, I was no longer eligable. She had told me too late. I had to wait six months for Blue Cross Blue Shield. When I finally was eligable for that the insurance company tells me my supervisor would have to make me full time. She was no where to be found. Then she requests that I transfer with her to a Dollar General in Gallatin. I agree to it and still, she was no where to be found. I was working in a strange place with strange people and I wanted to go back but they had replaced me. Then, my manager resigns in a text message over night. I was alone. And wasn't even in the system yet.

Weeks later we finally get a new store manager. I ask her to make me full time and she does so without hesitation. I liked her. She seemed like a good person. That was until a year later (now) she has my salary at the new mininum wage (7.25) even though I've been working there for nearly two years. I'm a very valued employee. I close every single night. I am the best compared to the rest and she treats me like shit. I called her and from the moment she answered the phone she had a tone with me. I told her that I appreciated the raise (I was expecting a raise at the time) going from 7.05 to 7.25 but that only got me up to the minimum wage. I told her that I had two raises prior and was expecting another and that my salary should be around 8 dollars. She freaked and said no. She said something like the Federal Goverment won't allow her to do that and that she has no power over my salary. That was a lie right there. Every idea/ attempt to being justified here has been destroyed. I can't do anything about this so I'm complaining.

Innappropriate manager
The day manager in this store is ver rude. She argues over advertisements which are clearly stated. One time my daughter spilled a little bit of pop on the floor in the store. I couldn't find anyone to report it to. Shortly after the manager and another employess were making a big deal out if it and were loudly pointing out my girls. They were saying, "there are the girls, wheres the pop?" They made my friend and I feel so uncomfortable. I had to hide the pop on the shelf because I thought they were going to search my cart. I will never go back in there again!

Manager
The "manager" of this store isn't allowed to hire distant reletives of hers or any other employees, but she IS ALLOWED to hire her very own "girlfriend"??? How is this equal employment opportunity? I know of 3 applications that got rejected. One was a second cousin of the manager herself. One was the FUTURE husband of the managers estranged daughter. And the other was just a "good friend of the managers family". My complaint is that this "manager" should not be allowed to hire her personal girlfriend at this store. Not when distant and estranged family members cannot be hired. And the manager and the girlfriend are not discreet about their relationship together and they always work the same shifts. This is not fair by any means. The other workers that are there cannot have their boyfriends or girlfriends or husbands or wives hired at this store because they are employed there and it is against company policy. Dollar General in Puxico has seen an increase in business since the new manager took over. However, since the managers girlfriend has been hired ahead of better qualified applicants that got denied simply for affiliation with the manager herself, business, i'm sure as you've seen, has gone down hill. Not all due to one being hired and another not. But because of the known lesbian relationship between the manager and one of her new employees. The lifestyles of the Dollar General Corp. employees is not what is under scrutiny in my complaint. It is the nature of the relationship between the manager and the employee and the fact that it in and of itself goes completely against the company policy for hiring family members. The manager could not hire the boyfriend of her own daughter and the daughter did not work there. But she can in turn hire her very own girlfriend. This is wrong and someone's attention needs to be brought to it. The managers name is Belinda McCormick and the employee/girlfriend's name is Betty.

Bad customer treatment
It has taken me this long to calm down..here's our backstory: We have been shopping at this Dollar General faithfully since moving to Fla. for my Partner it's been 4 years, it's coming up on 3 years for me we have always spent between $30 and $75 a week in Dollar General, our roomate did as well..she has informed us she will no longer shop there due to this incident!

Here's the story: After picking out 27 items, 20 of which were store brand products we proceeded to the check out..in the past as they fill the bags the employees would remove the bags and sit it on top of the holder so it could be picked up easier..according to the register receipt it was 17:04:22 ie: 5:04 and 22 seconds, on June 19, 2009! This employee a large black female was not friendly in the least, she overstuffed the bags they actually ripped as she bagged our purchases..so the holder would not shift as she was bagging the items My Partner waited for her to bag the last few scanned items before attempting to remove the bags..at this time the employee who has not smiled nor acknowledged us in any way kept throwing her hands out at me I was the one who was paying..we are both however partially deaf and even being hearing disabled we cannot read minds nor can we understand arms waving, since no words were spoken..I was confused and so was my baby she was about to remove the bags when she saw the stupid actions of the employee and she said "what?" to me, not to her I shook my head then shrugged my shoulders before I could start my response the clerk snapped in a loud rude abrasive tone "THE BAGS" she screamed it loud enough for the entire store to hear, the other customers gasped and began whispering one woman said out loud "the nerve"...my Partner snapped "excuse me?" the clerk released a stupid nervous laugh and began scanning the purchases again..she didn't say another word I paid and we left..DG got the very last $30.55 from us they will ever get..imagine talking like that to a customer, during these hard economic times...had she politely said "please load the bags" or "can you take some bags please" that would have been not only acceptable, but also appropriate however her military scream was not nor was it appreciated..we will NOT be returning to Dollar General!

rudeness
I was there in the store about 8:23pm and they close at 9:00pm. Anyway that Im in a wheelchair and my legs hurt with severe rheumatiod arthritis. I purchased my item and then asked the cashier (management) about if she could help me with the door. She had no one else in the store but me. She hesitated and turned to me and said "please would be nice!" Wow I was so angry that I couldnt even say anything. Ive been in this wheelchair for a long time and never had I encounted such rudeness!
