Too Many Days Off
I've been working at Dollar General for 4 months and since then my hours have changed tremendously so beside this he also decided to give me the whole week off just because I called in sick its not my fault that I sick. When other employees ask for days off he doesn't tell them anything and when I do it he starts giving me this lecture about how I ruin everybodys day by calling in and he would also tell me that he could find someone very easily to fill in my position. I don't think a manager should ever tell that to his employees. I hope some one does something about these complaints because this is outrageous. Something needs to be done about this!!!

managment
WOW. You wanna see a drama show? Come to Vandalia, IL Dollar General. Soap Opera plus starring the Mgr, and her grandbabys mama lead cashier...boy, dont this take the cake. Control freak refusing and threatening NOT to give breaks (illegal as I'll get out), claims to forget employee breaks, refuses to stock bags for consumer products? That really floors me...we want customers, but no bags to their purchases in? What a joke! What a freak show this store is!

Cashiers hiding Sale Items for other customers that called in or co-workers
Thanksgiving morning at approximately 7:02 am I entered into this store and ask the cashier where were the digitial cameras and she told me that she had phone calls the night before and had put all the camera on the side in the warehouse for those call in customers and co-workers. I worked retail before and I know that the workers are not allowed to do that, Okay I was in the line after purchasing cleaning supplies and the ladies came up to the register and ask for their cameras and the other cashier was told to go and get the cameras for them and it was 6 of te cameras. The other customers fussed with the ladies but those cashiers at this store did the same thing last year and I didn't get the camera. The address of this store is 2019 N.Parkerson Ave., Crowley, La.

Hot Wheels Bill
November 25, 2010
Accused/Threatened
I walked into a local DG to be welcomed by a new young employee. I headed to the back looking to see if they had any Hot Wheels for their two for one Thanksgiving sale. When I turned around this employee told me I had to leave. I asked why, and he told me they have me on camera going into the back and stealing a cell phone. I couldn't believe this because it is absolutely not true and I become offended when accused of something I did not do. I looked him in the face and claimed to be innocent and that if he really had me on video to call the cops which I'm pretty sure he did not do. I left the store and he smirked in a way that gave me the feeling that he was the one who might have stolen this cell phone, apparently from a worker out of the back room. Now I should be honest here. I regularly stop in this store and check for new Hot Wheels. I also sometimes pop my head into the back room to see if I spot any cases on the carts. However, I have NEVER nor would I EVER steal anything. I'm upset over the accusation that I would be robbing a dollar store. I am a college educated professional and am personally offended. I am considering my options about complaining but, after finding this forum and reading the horror stories from former employees, I think it might be best to not give Dollar General my hard earned dollar instead.

Poor Management
I am currently employed with this retail chain. I like my job for the most part. I enjoy talking to the customers. I am friendly and I try to be as helpful as possible. My boss, on the other hand, is a nightmare. Where do I start... When I was interviewed she told me that my red hair had to be dyed black because red is an unnatural color. She nagged me and nagged me until finally I colored my hair to a dark brown. She told me I was not allowed to wear capri pants. She also told me that my tattoos had to be covered up. About two weeks into my job there I was sent to work at another store to "help out". I was never informed that this would be part of my job. I was never even asked if I would be able to travel down there and work. When I got there, there was a girl working there with two toned hair (black and white) and everyone had on capri pants and everyone had tattoos that were visable... I noticed they had handbooks for the company. I thought that was odd considering my boss told me Dollar General does not have a handbook. The manager at the other store gladly gave me one and I took it home and studied it. My boss is a liar...Capri pants are allowed, tattoos are allowed as long as they are not offensive in nature, hair cannot be pink, blue or purple... Great..So I am being singled out. I have twenty missed calls on my phone and six voicemails all from her and none of it was anything of dire importance. I told her I was looking to work two or three days a week as I am a full time college student and a single mother. She cannot comprehend this concept. I told her about my school schedule and my child at my interview and she didnt seem to have a problem with it. Now why all of a sudden?? I guess I am on my way out because I have been written up for something that she cannot even explain to me. I dont know what to do anymore... I like working there I just dont like her. Shes forged my signature as well as several other people's on work documents...

Unfair firing
I worked for Dollar General for 3 1/2 years. I was one of the only people who would work extra to replace a person who was in need. I am disabled as known by the manager the reasons of disability. The manager named Dale...fired for calling in sick. I worked very sick the days before, until I became too weak to work. I called in the second day of illness and was told that if I did not come in, I would be fired because she (the manager) did not have any one to come in and work with her that night. Needless to say, I was fired, longest working employee at that store... At that store I was the only male. The new female hirees some would work a day or week and not show up or call in...She hired one that worked a short time and never called in but would not fire her until after the 3rd day of calling in. She had one female employee that took a 2 week sick leave right before I was fired. The reason for the sick leave...Boob job! When the manager was being questioned about her use of obscenities at the customers, my brother told me to lie for her, due to the fact she had a heart trouble.Well you can see how she paid me back, fired me for following the rules, simply because she did not like my disability. Dollar General is without a doubt a very poor job choice. I take pride in my work, but the some of the managers could care less. I have turned this over to the EEOC and to my Attorney who works for Dallas Hospice. I worked for 3 managers at this store, and Dale was #3. I was done dirty, but intend to pursue this case, maybe some in Dollar General Main Office will wake up to what goes on in thier stores if they care, If not they deserve a state of constant litigation. The attorney said I could get my job back, but who would want to work for these people? I do have witness to what I have said working at and some that have quit the store, I can back up everything I have said.
