Bad Curtomer service
Not a frequent shopper. Was buying cleaning products. At the section where toilet paper is at states to go upfront for coupon. We are used to coupons being at our grasp. So when we went to go pay we asked for coupons. The cashier threw it at us. Never smiled and never greeted us. My husband handed them back to her and said we need only 2. She threw them on conveyour belt and told us we had to cut them out our selves. We were shocked and she was giving us attitude. Then she yelled at us and said we could only one coupon even though it doesn't say anywhere. She bagged my groceries rough and rude. I was so upset and asked for her name. She said Kim. I told her she didn't have no customer service what's so ever. She laughed in my face. I asked for her manager she pointed to a lady behind the register stocking. I gave her my complaint, but stood there as if she didn't care either. I asked for her name she said Paris. I am old school I believe in customer service 100%. I will never ever return to store #01906. My cell phone 2818329045

Stealing company time
I worked for Dollar General for awhile now and have noticed that a lot of the SM do not work a 40 hr week. They are on set salary and may only work about 25-35 hrs for week leaving early, saying they were there when they are not and I for one dont think its no where near right when your getting paid a certain amout and clearly not doing what is suppose to be done and they are getting away with this because they dont have to clock in and out like the rest of us. I no our DM does not have time to check every mgr hrs but I really think this is something that needs to be looked into especially in the Hammond, La area

Poor service
Interesting customer "service" I encountered today. I'm a retail manager by trade and have managed a small box store in the past. This company hands down has got to be the worst in the industy. For example, on 4/21 I went in to purchase some weed killer. I had never ventured into this establishment before and thought, "why not". I found a few interesting things while perusing for my purchase. One, there's clutter all over the place making weaving through the small aisles next to impossible at times (and it wasn't even busy). Two, their freight door was wide open in the back and no person "manning" the door (what, free for all?). Three, I could not find what I was looking for so I asked the only person with a yellow Dollar General shirt for assistance. "Excuse me, do you carry weed killer." The response..."I'm not sure that we do." Huh? Some acceptable responses might have been, "no, sorry we don't have those products, but we do have..." or "I'll be with you in a minute to help you"...or "I'll get someone to help." I felt like I did not matter to them (what's that also say about their "Management"). See ya, Dollar General, you could have gained a lifelong customer, oh well, you probably think, so what, we are too big to fail and let one lost customer get in the way...I say...GUESS AGAIN!!! I will let other people know how you operate. Actually, I should be thanking Dollar General, this experience reinforces the fact that the great customer service my store provides is kinda tough to come by these days!!!

Rude cashier
I went into the Dollar General on Friday April 16, 2010 and I tell you their is this one cashier that is the rudest person I have ever seen and she stands and tells customers about her life problems. Her name is Cindy. I can't believe she is still working for this company. They must not care that they have a druggie workin for them. She stood and told a customer that she snorted pills before work. Don't they do drug testing? I know I would never have someone like this workin for me. I will never go back to this location as long as she is working their.

Discrimination
This may take a bit of your time...

I have been working with the company for roughly 6 year and I am still an entry level cashier and I have been told that due to the store being a high shrink store, there is no possible promotion for me since I have been employed during the time of the shrinking.

My previous job was WIS inventory and yes, the store's inventory was jacked the hell up and that was before I even got there, so that's no excuse

For many years now we employees have found empty hangers, packages and such at our store but we are the accussed. After all of these years and all of the crew changes and security systems installed, we are still on lock down.

Trusting employees is not in thier policies. We get in trouble for doing so many refund, voids, or even keying items in when the upcs don't work. Hell, they even trip on price inquiries. We can't help that sometimes people change thier mind and don't want an item or a few. Perhaps they can't afford it or just don't want junk sh*t but they do deserve thier money back rather I get writen up or not. We even have to be coached if we don't bring in the average basket they expected for the week. Not everyone spends $10 or more, some people just stand in line for a soda.

I have even been told by other employees and a couple of the many managers that have worked with me that our district manager never has liked (never trusted) me. He has also accussed me of sliding merchandice to friends and/or family.
Oh, and did I mention that I am black? And I didn't even yell discrimination. Perhaps I should, knowing that the argument would only lead to more stereotypical issue.

Just to get one thing straight. I believe in karma and know from experience that what comes around goes around and around and so on. So you won't ever see me intentionally doing something to screw myself or anyone else but hey we are all human anyways right? If I were to do something I would be the first to tell on myself becasue guilt would ride me to hell. Anyhow appart from the rambling...

I pose for the camera.*wink* Everything I do, I make sure that the camera can see it for everyones sake. During transactions, I count the money as I take it from the customer, as Im putting it in the drawer, then count change as I am pulling it from the drawer and then again as I hand it back to the customer. Sometimes mistakes are made but we catch them with my thorough way. I even use simple body language to communicate with everyone for extra assurance and they appreciate all of my extra efforts.

As I had said before, I have been with the company for 6 years with no promotion or anything and every local that comes to the store knows me by name. They know me for my honesty and hard work that I put in for them. They know that when they come to "my" store that they will have a pleasent experience and even though they have to wait in line (due to poor management) that I am sweating to get them out in a timely manner. In my 6 year time I have yet to have a complaint. Just praises.

Note to management: I mean no offense to the bosses that work thier asses off for DG just to the big shots that b*tches about not getting thier bonuses blaming thier poor proformances on us smaller peoples who runs the sh*t.

Alot of you may be asking yourselves why I continue to stay and take the abuse. Well it's because even though the company may not appreciate me my customers make me feel that I belong. It doesn't take sliding merchandice or cheating in anyway for me to make others happy. Respect is all that anyone really wants but a raise wouldn't hurt either. Me and my customers think I deserve it, Todd!

For all of you Dollar General customers that have ever been wronged by the company, I know that these words may not even mean much coming from my mouth but I am sorry. It embarrasses me to know that I work for such a company.

Thanks for your time,
I had to get it all out somewhere.

employee
I was a store manager with Dollar General for 2 years. I was hurt with a steel cage; I am on crutches for the rest of my life. I have to have special shoes built. I have developed RSD due to the injury. Let me tell you what a wonderful company Dollar General claims to be! I had to have my cam walker replace in March. My lawyer had it approved; I went down to the ortho place to get my boot and arm brace. The specialist but the boot and brace on me and I was going out the door when the receptionist called me back. She said, I’m sorry but Dollar General is refusing to pay for the boot and brace. I had to take the cam walker and brace off. I watched the specialist dig my old boot (I had to tape it closed) and brace out of the trash bin and put them back on me. I was so mad, and mortified. I cried for days. It took me four weeks to get the walker and brace. I still have not got my shoe. I worked 80 hrs a week . I took a store that got robbed every 3 months. No one else would take it. This is the repayment I get for doing my best. I won my case and still am fighting.Dollar General has appealed the case and now they are refusing to pay for my trips to the doctors. Please, Please think twice before going to work for this company.

vacation pay owed to me
To whom this may concern which I hope the CEO of Dollar General read this plus the upper managerment in HR and Payroll---my name is Carolyn Kime and I was dimissed/terminated or fired how ever you want to call it on March 19, 2010 and my employee ID # was 901605. In the meeting with the DM-Joel---he assured me that I would get my 80 hours vacation that I had earn from the company and that he would submit the paper work in---now here is what I'm very disappointed with Dollar General---if you are going to terminated a person from your company--you should tell the person that their vacation time that they worked hard for will not be paid to them which I think that is so wrong for a company to do. I earned that time--I worked very hard for that time and I never quit Dollar General--they quit on me. Dollar General was my home for 3 years while I started out as a cashier and in 3months was 3rd key and 18 months later was ASM. I enjoyed my job and everything that was asked of me plus more.
I always thought Dollar General cared for their employees--not the ones that stole from them or the ones that was dishonest with the company which I'm not either one but I guess I was wrong even now with these tough times. I was really counting on my vacation pay till I can get another job. I did make an error but I thought Dollar General would had put me somewhere else with the company like on the truck teams or store set ups--to me that won't had matter at least I would had stayed with the company. In the hand book I never came across the policy when you terminateda SM or ASM that they would not get paid for their vacation time they had---my question is where was it stated on this affect?
I hope someone can clear all this up for me cause I sure could use that money right now--my phone number is 615-299-5657.
You all might what to think about telling new DM's not to assure any SM and ASM when they terminate them from your company that they will recieve their vacation time that they had with your company. This whole mess caused me alot of grief and depression and I really don't think you as a company really know what harm this cause to me or other past employees on this matter.
Again, hope to get some honest answer from some one

Fired for payroll edits
I was recently fired from my job at Dollar General for payroll edits. I have noticed that there are a few of you out there that have been fired for this as well. I had very little training I was promoted to ASM very quickly, three months later our SM goes on FMLA, she doesn't return. Which left my 3rd key and myself to run this "trouble store" for almost ten months, with no compensation, no additional training, no bonuses, nothing. I then have my baby, I was replace by two males, so I filed a FEEOC claim. Four months later I was promoted to SMC, THE VERY NEXT DAY, I was promoted to SM..back to running the store how I had been trained. Hence doing payroll how I was showed...My ASM was also fired for payroll edits...we did not know we were violating a policy. I have worked for the company for three years, and have always done payroll this way, We went through like four DM's, nobody ever told us, what we were doing was wrong. Until this past December, My ASM and myself made associates clock in and out properly and our new DM told us to document edits, she said if employees don't clock in and out right they need wrote up, I said ok. So I corrected what I was doing wrong via "payroll edits", and did what my DM said, still she never spoke it was a violation. But anyways, we fixed the problem for five weeks, and then terminated for it. I think Dollar General retaliated against my store for my FEEOC and the class action, concerning overtime pay for managers. I think when you sign up for claim(s), they use payroll edits to fire you on, they do not explain the importance of payroll edits, they let it red flag for years, and then when you sign your name to a dotted line, they clean out your whole store, because the whole store is your witness. If you were fired for this as well, contact me, they will not get away with doing this to us, they will pull all 8400+ stores payroll, and show me who all is red flagging right now, and still working, this is a problem, they won't get away with it!! I have contacted some of you, for all you others, please contact me, if we all get together it only makes us stronger. They didn't train us right, and for it, we get fired. I was 6 out of 15 in sales, 3 out of 15 for shrink (improved it by 68k), positive comp. My old DM said that my store was #2 on appearance in the district. We got outstandings on our SVS's almost every month, my store was one of the first stores to be model certified in our district. I received certificates for 2009 lowest expense to plan percent, most improved store, Accident Free, I was in the thousand dollar range for EBITA. So why was I fired, I was never even wrote up, at all..not even once during my employment with Dollar General.

Manager not treating employee fair
I am a parent to one of the emplyees at this store, this employee is my son who I say and know is a very hard worker and a very honest young man. I will not say his name but I will leave you my name (i am his mother) and (my cell number) for any return questions and concerns at the bottom of this email. The managers name at this store is James. James hires teenagers to pay them very little cash to work hard he hired my son when the time came for my son's raise he decreased his hours of work then eventually decreased his days from 3 days to 2 day and now 1 day. Til this day my son has not recieved his raised and still works one day a week, and that is Sundays. James has my son arriving at 6:00 in the morning every Sunday knowing he has no way to get to work that early but I HIS MOM MAKES SURE HE GETS THERE. This manger has a reputation of doing this to employees after they are there for while he decreases hours and days to irritate the employees enough to make them quit on thier own so that the store will not be liable for unemployment. This manager (James) wants my son to quit . It's a shame my son told this manager in confidence that he was going to get a place to live for his son and son's mother so why would this manager play games like this. My son is struggling and to be honest it's hard trying to find a job anywhere he's trying but why should he be doing so when he has a job already and may lose it because of such a careless manager. My son is not a quitter this is not fair and I only plea and ask that someone look into this matter . My name is Mrs. Oquendo and my contact number is 215-840-1353, This is a terrible example for a company to set to it's employees and a terrible definition and description of a manager. I hope and pray to hear from you soon, thank you.
