My husband and I visited the dealership only to support a friend who was making a purchase. We were then told of the "great deals" they were having on their 07 F150 trucks. So we started "browsing" - just in case (we had already purchased two new vehicles 6 months ago, but my husband thought a truck might be handy). We found one that "would" be suitable, only if the payments would be the same on the vehicle we would trade-in. I requested a trade-in value for my vehicle and the approximate monthly payments based on the rtade-in, sales price, as well as my FICO score. The salesman proceeded to have me fill out an application which required a Social Security number. I told him I did not want to provide that, as I did NOT want my credit run. We just wanted an estimate of the payments. He AND the manager INSISTED that it would not be run, that this was customary. Based on their "word" (I know - STUPID of me), I gave them my SSn and signed the app. Bottom line - they ran my credit. WHen I called to complain the manager that was there previously wasnt in and the gentleman I spoke with recalled the event, saying that no one told him not to run my credit.
