Undelivered windows and 1 day installation as per contract
I’m writing this letter on complaint due to the fact the Empire Today hasn’t delivering all my good as promised. I contacted Empire Today, because I was interested in getting all new windows install to my home. So we set up a free estimate appointment sales person that visited my home was William Watts quoted price $11,000 Invoice # HP04453 for 12 windows on November 14, 07. We agreed to the terms so the same day I was required to give a $2600 check so that the window could be ordered. The contract indicated that the work completely done in a 1 day span within 4 weeks on the invoice date which in this case it’s 11/12/07. On December 13 2007 I called Empire Today and spoke to Michael the sales supervisor to inquire about the status on the windows, because I didn’t hear back from them with a scheduling appointment date to install the windows to my home. Michael indicated that there was a delay in the process of delivery on the window to there warehouse I ask him how that would effect my order and he replied that my new estimated delivery date for the windows to arrive at there warehouse was 12/17/07 and that on 12/22/07 they would be installed in my home. Once again 12/22/07 came and I still received no phone call from Empire Today with regards to there arrival time to install my windows. I called Michael again inquiring about the delay and why hasn’t anyone called me to give me an update letting me know what was going on. Michael apologized and indicated that Empire Today was getting out of the business of installing windows and that they would have subcontracted my order out. I expressed that I was very dissatisfied with the situation, because I was promised that everything would be complete before the Christmas holidays and haven’t to heard anything from his company. I told him that we were considering canceling the order since they neglected to install the product as they agreed per contract. Michael then ask what they could do to make us not back out of the deal so he offered a $1000 deduction on remaining balance which at the time was $8400 so this brought down my new total to $7400. Michael also assured me that the contractors which were going to install my windows would call with an installment date once we got off the phone because he was going to contact them to let them know they needed to call us with dates. The window contractor called me about 1 hour later and indicated that they just got all these orders from Empire Today and there was no way they complete the job before the Christmas holiday. I then explain to the window contractor that I understood it wasn’t there fault but I was very displeased because I was promised one thing and it has yet to happen. The window contactor told me that they would be able to complete the job by 1/2/08 and I agreed to that also. The window contractor came to my home yesterday 1/2/08 with a partial order they installed some of the windows without put the sealing on them so a draft in coming thru my windows now in freezing cold weather and I have younger children living in my home with me. I ask the window contractor were was the other windows he indicated that one of the gentlemen was going to pick them up and one guy did in fact leave in the middle of doing the work but never returned himself, nor with the window. When I realized that the gentlemen wasn’t going to return I called Empire Today once again and at this point I was very pissed off because I was told that this was suppose be a 1 day job. I spoke to several different people with the Empire Today agency to include Junior who refused to give his last that indicated a, Frankie Perez would be calling me which never happened, then spoke to Adam Thomas who may a add is a VERY RUDE and Unprofessional individual with no type of Customer Service skills who is unwilling to do whatever it takes to make this situation the Empire Today created. As it stand today 1/3/08 right in 35 degree weather now I have some windows installed which haven’t been sealed at all so a draft continues to come thru the window with children in my home with no type on resolution. I would like some type on compensation for all the frustration and stress that Empire has put me thru I’ve had to deal with this issues since 11/14/07 and it should have been done and over with by 12/22/07 as promised. Somehow a 1 day job turn into weeks of a nightmare this has yet to end. Whatever changes happens within any company and or organization in the case Empire Today company it should never effect there level of customers service with there clients order. This should be a time were they should actual accommodate customers due to the inconveniencing me
Adam Thomas who may a add is a VERY RUDE and Unprofessional individual with no type of Customer Service skills who is unwilling to do whatever it takes to make this situation the Empire Today created. I no longer wish any type of contact with Adam Thomas who as admitted to me the he is an ARROGANT person and isn’t willing to help us out contact my home AGAIN.
Thanks

Overpriced and inferior staff!
If you have flooring needs, I plead that you NEVER do business with Empire Today. Their prices are ridiculous and the sales staff are a bunch of unprofessional con artists. Trust me, it starts from the top down. They are sweey and nice once in your home but immediately become terse the moment you hint at not buying. Who, in reality, needs their floors done the next day? THE ONLY REASON WHY THEY FAVOR PROVIDING "NEXT-DAY INSTALLATIONS" IS BECAUSE ONCE IT'S INSTALLED, IT'S YOURS. YOU CANNOT BACK OUT! YOU SIGNED AN OFFICIAL CONTRACT AND NOW YOU OWE! BEWARE, PEOPLE! Any questions, feel free to email me.

Damage to home and then unresponsive to complaints
I had flooring from Empire installed in my house in October 2005. Biggest mistake of my life.
The first day they were there, not only did Empire not finish the job, but they tried to get my contractor and his employees who were there installing a new ceiling, to help them carry their materials upstairs and asked them to finish the job, rehang closet doors and put down the trim. Empire also did not dispose of the old carpeting as we had agreed.
I had my contractor dispose of the carpeting and when I called Empire to complain, I received a credit for that and they said they would send someone out the following day to finish the job that I was paying them to do. Big mistake once again. One of the 2 Empire installers used my bathroom w/o asking and backed up the toilet. I was sitting downstairs doing some work on the computer and water started pouring through the ceiling lights and the brand new ceiling that had just been installed a few days before. I ran upstairs and opened the bathroom door to find the woman trying to sop up the water with towels. She didn't call for help. She didn't turn off the water. Nothing. When I asked what happened, she said the tank started overflowing. This is virtually impossible and the plumber I called that day confirmed for me that there was nothing wrong with my toilet. Also, the other Empire installer she was working with claimed to be a plumber and gave me his number to call to come back and fix it. I was in shock to say the least.
Anyway, I spent about a year trying to get in touch with someone at Empire who could help m. Every time I spoke with customer Service I was transferred to someone's voicemail and never got a call back. When I finally did get in touch with someone who was helpful in the NJ installation office, she put me in touch with someone who could help, Sam, also located in the south Jersey installation office. After speaking with him several times, he told me he was going to contact the installers insurance company to resolve this matter. To the best of my knowledge this was never done. I have tried since to reach Sam and he has not returned my calls.
DO NOT USE EMPIRE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES!!! I also found out later that Empire caused substantial damage to my neighbor's new drywall when carpeting was installed on her stairs.

Bait and Switch/terrible installation
We mistakenly called Empire Today to install new carpet in our 1800 sq ft home before we moved in. The installation must have been done by blind monkeys: there was no pad on the stairs, and at various places in the house, the carpet pulled up in the middle of the room, there were seams right in front of the front door, there were no Z-bars between bathroom tile and the carpets so you could see the edge of the tile, etc, etc. Their installers and foremen made 3 or 4 trips to inspect, all shook their heads in disbelief at how this could have happened (except the one formeman who asked: why do you want a Z-bar there?). They offered to repair it (impossible) and finally said they would replace it. Meanwhile, we discovered that we had been charged twice as much as any other place AND the "Shaw" carpet was indeed made by Shaw but was the most inferior generic product they do make, not the "high-end, top-of-the-line carpet " we thought we were getting for $8000. We insisted they take it out and refund our money. They stalled and wouldn't return our calls. They then sent out 2 guys at 8:00 Saturday morning without informing us to replace the carpet! - mind you, this is the whole house with heavy bookshelves, furniture, bds, desks, etc to move around while these idiots "replace " it. We sent them away and have insisted they take their carpet and refund us our money. They are still insisting that the carpet is top of the line which is a lie. It was our stupidity to use them without shopping around, but they are crooks who lie. We are not paying and filing a claim against them and a dispute with GE.

Poor service!
I recently had carpet installed by Empire Today in Southern New Jersey. I had been warned about dealing with Empire Today by several people but I decided to give them a chance anyway. Please don't make the same mistake that I made.
When I met with their South Jersey Sales Rep. Joe he advised me that the price included everything, the installation, moving of my furniture, placing everything back in its place after the installation and the disconnecting and reconnecting of all electronics, restoring them to working order.
Well, I was not charged anymore money, and the installers did put everything back in its place, but... Not one piece of my electronics were reconnected leaving me with no television ( I had to pay my cable company to reconnect my components days later) and the installers cut the lines to my my telephone jack leaving me without a telephone, costing more in repairs . I contacted my salesman Joe about this and he denies saying that they would restore electronics, but I know he said it and my father who was also there remembers him saying that too. Regarding the destroyed telephone line, Joe says that never happens. My reply is, I guess there is a first time for everything but something tells me that this is not the first time. So you can do what you want to but I will never do business with this company again. Also, anyone in the NJ area beware because Joe told me that he is the sales Rep trainer, so your sales rep could be his protege.

Poor service!
Empire came out to my condo on Sat. Oct. with some vertical blinds window treatments. I selected what I wanted and he took measurements and when I said I would have to work during the following week he told me he would take the final measurements and I told him I would like them installed the following Saturday.
On Thursday, when I got home from the doctor and noticed a message on my machine that they had tried to come for the final measurements. I called and explained to them that the first person that came out had taken the final measurements and that they blinds were special order, which I did not know about. On Tuesday, they called again to come out to take the final measurements. I again explained what had happened and they said that the first person did not fill out what was needed to be filled out and because of that they will still have to come back. I said that means that the blinds had not been ordered and they said that was correct. I told them to cancel the order and asked about the $150.00 deposit I gave them. They said they would sent it to the proper authorities to send me my refund. I doubt I will ever see that. I had used Empire about 5 years ago with no problems but I get the feeling that they are growing too large too fast for good customer service. Thank you for listening.

Poor quality product!
I had purchased flooring a year ago, a few months after installation the floor was scratched. It took many phone calls to empire and one phone call to finance company when i finally got someone to come out and replace the damaged areas. Now the floor is buckling at the seams. Someone did come out and took pictures and said someone else would get back with me. After a few week i called customer service (answering machine) and left messages. As of this date no one has returned my calls. I will never buy from empire again. The floor doesn't hold up like they said it should.

The secret is out!
They used to have a TV commercial showing in the Southern California area that showed a dirty old pervert in an Empire uniform rolling around on the floor with a bunch of kids. They subsequently pulled the commercial, but it's TOO LATE!! THE SECRET IS OUT!!

Poor service!
I wish that I had read this site before having this company mangle the vinyl siding on my house. The job was super simple - replace a quarter of one side of my house where the siding was pulled off during renovations. It should have been a one day or less job. Two weeks later and FOUR visits by "installers" and the entire back of my house is in shambles. They tried to put a J-channel along the middle of the field to connect old and new siding. When my wife questioned it they said "your husband approved it". She called me immediately and I told them to stop what they were doing. They took an imprint of my wifes card but said they would not charge it until the job was finished. A "manager" came by a few days later to inspect the problem. I had to call them another two days later because they never got back to me. He said the installers made a mistake and that they could indeed connect the siding without the channel (as I was told/sold). A week goes by and they still don't show up. When I call they said they were busy with other projects. They show up finally and the installer says he can't connect the siding (and these are supposed to be vinyl siding people). I call the "manager" and they contact the installer - he then rips off the GOOD SIDING FROM THE REST OF THE SIDE OF THE HOUSE, and leaves a mess of debris. He says he will come back tomorrow to finish!!!(Sat). Then he calls and says Monday because the siding store is closed on Sat! Then I find out they charged my credit card the full install amount without our authorization or signoff on the job. I contacted my credit card company and reported it as fraud and they were able to reverse the charge. I have no idea what I am going to do now that they have destroyed the good siding on the house - it is going to cost double to get another company in to fix all these mistakes.
Avoid this company like the plague.

Unauthorized charge!
This complaint is about a $50 service charge that Empire Today has attempted to collect from me for warranty work. While their customer service department has attempted to help and agrees that the charge was levied in error, the accounting department continues to ignore their communications, does not communicate with me, and has sent my balance to a collection agency. Empire alleges that when I called them to schedule warranty work (there is no dispute that the mini-blinds were still under warranty), they informed me that there would be a $50 service charge. I disagree. Furthermore, when the serviceman came to my home and repaired the blinds, he signed a "Certificate of Completion" that said I owed, $0.00. Lastly, I had warranty work done on the blinds a few months earlier, and the charge then was also $0.00.
I have now filed an official complaint with the New York State Consumer Protection board.
I had read of complaints about Empire, but did business with them anyway, because I was homebound for many months with sick infant twins, one on oxygen 24x7, and I needed a window covering for their room. I could not get out of the house to shop, nor could I install a product myself. In hindsight, I should have called some other shop-at-home, install-it-for-you company.
