I just found out my family-Me, my husband and 8 year old son were denied food stamps. My husband was a Cape worker here in Florida who got laid off due to the ending of the shuttle program. I am currently employed and have started using my companies health care coverage since my husband lost his, which was WAY better than what we are offered at my company. We are paying $400 a month for health coverage now which is a high deductable policy, and the reason we were denied assistance is because between his unemployment and my income, we gross just under $200 a month more than the guidelines!! I think it is rediculous! With the presidential government wanting every American to have healthcare coverage, I can see why some families go without the coverage! For what I pay for health care, I could be spending extra for food for the family! I strongly suggest that DCF reduce your eligable income with what families pay for health insurance out of each check... But then wouldn't that be too simple???
