Fort Worth Convention Center Parking Garage Reviews

Proud Texan October 30, 2010
Overcharge
On October 29, 2010, I attended a conference sponsored by the Texas governor's office and the program provided a free parking pass at the FWCC parking facility. Driving there from my direction, there was only one sign visible indicating FWCC parking, so I followed the sign to the parking garage. There was no attendant present at the time, so I got a parking stub from the machine at the entrance. Upon existing, the manager said the parking pass I was issued was only good at the Commerce street location and not at the location where I parked. Mind you, all the locations are apparently labeled FWCC Parking, surround the convention center and all are within similiar proximity to the center. The parking manager said that eventhough the same company ran both of those garages, that the pass would only be honored at the other location which was on the opposite side of the convention center. Eventhough he admitted that he would have done the same thing given the circumstances, he had no flexibility to waive the charges, charge a reduced fee, or charge the difference in cost, because "it would affect his revenue numbers." This is just plain poor service and poor business practice. I could understand if it was a different company, or a more convenient location, but no, it was "because the arrangement was for the other location"--that his company also managed and was in similar proximity. I'm not a complainer and will usually just ignore something like this, but it seemed rediculous to have to pay $10 for parking 2.5 hours when the governor's office had negotiated for free parking. It seems the people who run the FWCC Parking facility have only one thing in mind, charging whatever they can, despite the spirit of the arrangement. $10 does not impact my budget at all, but the principle of fair play and fair treatment was completely ignored by the company and low level management that runs the Fort Worth Convention Center Parking Garage. I feel violated and have a need to speak up. What ever happened to common courtesy and goodness? I expect that karma will pay them back some day. If I had any hand in the dealings of their contract with the city, I certainly would look twice at renewing their contract---all because they fail to live to the Texas way, a culture built on friendly and compasionate treatment of others; the way you would want to be treated.
