Poor customer service
I have a GE Profile microwave which stopped working after less than 2 years. Warranty only good for 1 year. I called 800-432-2737 on the manual for GE Customer Care service. They said the charge was $99 to come out and apply it to service and labor. When the tech came out he clarified the charges stating the $99 did NOT cover any service, labor, or parts. It only covered sending out the technician and diagnosing the problem! After diagnosing he said the total would be $215!! I only spent $199 for the microwave brand new!! A quick search on the internet showed the new same featured model for $169!! When I pointed it out to the tech he agreed buying a new one would also give you a 1 year warranty on everything compared to his 90-day warranty on his parts. THEN they offered to sell me a new one for $269 which would "waive" the $99 tech fee. However, they would take the old one away when they delivered the new one. How coincidental that their $269 price is $100 more than buying it at a local store!! They said if I did not want to repair it ($215) and did not want a new one ($269), then I would still have to pay the $99 tech fee. What a rip off.
I said I was not properly informed that the $99 tech fee was for simply diagnosing and not applied to the cost of the repair. I refused all their offers. I told them it was not fair to bait and switch me on the $99 tech fee.
After the tech left, I called a local appliance repair shop. They estimated labor at $45 plus parts based on the diagnosis by the tech. I brought it to the store, they fixed it and I picked it up the same day. Total cost $54.
GE Customer Care service is expensive and predatory. They come to your home and come up with a repair bill that is greater than the cost of the unit brand new. Then they offer to sell and deliver a new one for much higher than simply buying it at the store. And if you buy a new one from them they demand to take you old one (probably so they can repair it for a few bucks and sell it as refurbished for pure profit).
BEFORE you call GE Customer Care for any appliance beyond the full warranty, call you local appliance store and try to get an estimate.

Terrible product
I bought a 08LL Ge window air-conditioner and in came damaged and never worked. I contacted repair and still 7 weeks later it's not fixed. I will never buy GE again! I don't trust consumer reports either. They gave the model under it a good CR only to find out it was a discontinued model so they tested the 08LL and it became discontinued a month after they came out with it. Maybe these two companies should quit deceiving their customers? Never, never, again will I buy GE. No wonder they are trying to sell they're appliance division.

Cordless Phone
I both a GE Cordless Phone, Model # 27906GE1-A 4747DG, from
MObil Oil Co. on 2/18/2008. It has stopped working, even tried new battery, but didn't work. It keeps changing to French from English setting and is completly dead, no dial tone. I did send in a product registration, but I was not given a product book when purchased and all I have is a copy of the registration, with no phone numbers and I can't find website. Registration was sent to GE Consumer Electronics, Product Registration Department, Thomson, Inc., PO Box 173028, Denver, CO 80217-3028, can you give me info as where to return it for repair or refund? Thank you. Suzanne DuCharme (senior citizen)

rebate denied
Purchased three appliances and submitted all the correct paperwork in May 2008. At the End of July looked it up (had no notice of denial), and saw it was INVALID. ???? Dont know what that means. No phone # or explanation given. I feel cheated by GE.
Will continue to pursue this matter until satisfied. Thank you for listening.

GE AIR CONDITIONER
I bought a 10, 000 btu GE air conditioner from Walmart on 6/5/07. I used it for approx. 3 months, running it mostly at night. I started using it again this year around June and woke up the other morning and it was dead. I paid $208.00 and use this AC for approx. 5 months in all. I called GE but they said it was nothing they could do since it was a year old and I explained that it may be a year old but I have only used it for no more than 5 months. They said the best they could do was to give me a $75.00 rebate if I went out and bought another GE AC. Why would I want another GE if they only last 5 months? He said he could do no more and that he was sorry but that is not enough for me because $208.00 is alot of money for me and I feel like they owe me at least a partial refund. I also told him there were no GE's around here because it has been very hot and they were all sold out. So I had to drive 40 miles one way to Lowes and bought a Samsung AC that came with a 5 year warranty for the same money. i even told him I had recently purchased a new GE stove and refrigerator and why can't that rebate be applied to that but he said only on an AC. What a rip off GE is...so sorry now that I purchased their other appliances.

Dishwasher was a lemon from the get-go
I got a new GE dishwasher last year and paid $850 for it. We won't even talk about all of the delivery issues and damaged GE appliances that I refused to accept. From day one, the dishwasher did not work right. It left a filthy residue on the glasses and dishes, so I called GE about the problem. They sent out a technician who agreed that the glasses should come out clean (I even showed him "clean" glasses that had been run through a cycle), but he could not find a problem. Four technicians later (and four more days off from work without pay and technicians agreeing that my glasses should look clean and not have residue after a clean cycle), I was told by GE that since their technicians cold not find a problem, there was nothing that could be done. Although I debated this with the rep that the technicians all agreed that my glasses should not look be left with residue, the rep insisted that since no problem was found, all they coudl do was send another rep out to look for the problem again. By this time I could not afford to take yet another day off with out pay, so I took the time to compose a letter to the corporate offices of GE detailing the experience. I got no response. So now I am stuck washing the disgusting residue off my glasses after they are run through the dishwaser. I would like to point out that my previous dishwasher ( a Kenmore) did not have this issue.
Now, my two year old GE gas dryer has stopped producing heat and GE wants me to pay $100 for a technician to come to the house just to look at it!
Next time, I'm buying Kenmore!

Treatment
At 4:15 Monday afternoon (6/16/08) a young man dressed with a blue GE shirt rings the doorbell and without properly introducing himself began asking questions of a financial nature. When I reacted to his aggressive tactics, he became insolent and when I asked him to leave he insulted me using language no salesperson or data collector should. If anyone knows of a supervisor for any company currently collecting customer data in the El Paso area, I would appreciate a heads up. I am not used to being treated disrespectfully, and would appreciate an opportunity to speak my mind to one of his superiors.

Bogus Account
Dear GE
I received a letter of a bogus account opened in your company under my name. I say bogus because I never authorize this application to go through; therefore I request that you please fix this problem and make sure it does not affect my credit. I have also reported this matter to Equifax. Please help me resolve this matter because I will take no financial responsibility for any purchases made under my name with the account you have given to someone I don't know.Any questions please call me, I will need a spanish translator.
Sincerely, Jesus Castillo

Terrible experience!
My husband and I bought a Profile counter-depth refrigerator. It has never cooled properly, the ice maker was replaced because of rust, now the new one has rust after a couple years, The ice cream never freezes, it's soft, parts of the refrigerator are cold and other spots warm, the milk is never cold enough, you can fee cold coming out of the rubber lining (or whatever you call it). Repairmen were called constantly and some parts replaced, to no avail. I believe they did send another refrigerator, but same problem. If it was a bad refrigerator to start with, they all probably operate the same. Now we have no warranty (which wasn't any good in the first place), and we are out $2, 000.00 for a refrigerator that doesn't work properly. GE refuses to refund money.

Not working right!
This pertains to a GE Profile product. When my husband and I invested in remodeling our kitchen, we considered the options and – deciding to go with what we felt would be good quality – we purchased the full set of matching GE Profile appliances. Unfortunately, after only a few months, the refrigerator started having some major problems. First of all, both sides of the refrigerator started freezing up; it wasn't cooling properly and we literally had to constantly chip away big chunks of ice on the refrigerator side. Imagine our frustration and dismay when, after all these years of buying different brands of refrigerators without any major problems, one of the most expensive refrigerators we've purchased posed such a ridiculous issue.
Further, our agitation was increased by the fact that the GE repair technician visited many times and was still not able to resolve the problem. Not only were the numerous visits an inconvenience, but as an entrepreneur with a hectic schedule, such appointments also disrupt my business (cumbersome as the repair appointments are, since it takes one visit for the GE technician to assess the situation and then an additional one for him to try to fix it). The customer service representatives also indicated that GE would not provide me with a new refrigerator -- even if the one we'd purchased is a lemon; what kind of customer service is that? It's certainly not the level of service that would be expected from a company that boasts a reputation of quality and service. GE's motto is, GE cares. They need to change that.
After so much aggravation I called corporate headquarters and GE finally agreed to exchange the lemon refrigerator/GE profile. We wish we could say that the situation has had a completely favorable outcome…. However, the frustration continues because this new refrigerator heats up and is not cooling the food properly. Once again we're facing the repair calls. The technician that came out said the cooling system is not working. It's like the engine of a car not functioning. I called corporate once again to let them know of the dilemma with their GE Profile product. Instead of giving me a new refrigerator that works properly, they will once again try and fix the problems.
You would think that when a consumer buy's one of GE's supposedly top of the line products, a consumer would get what they paid for, refrigerators that work properly, not lemons. I am not sure where GE's quality went. My parents said that GE had great products at one time and good customer service relations. As that saying goes, things change. One thing is for sure, GE does not need to worry about laying off their service technicians or personnel in their customer complaints department. Especially, when their quality assurance department doesn't seem to exist. After all, a most basic function of a refrigerator is to maintain food at a cool/safe temperature...
We know that were just two consumers, but we also want others to be aware of the type of product that GE sells to the consumer. We also lose a lot of money in groceries because the refrigerator does not do what it is supposed to do, not cooling and maintaining the food at a safe temperature. So, not only are we inconvenienced with a poor product that is not performing, but now we were also even losing money because the food is spoiling. Were sure that the Principles/Officers for GE, would not find this such a circumstance acceptable either if they were dealing with such a problem in their home.
We feel it is important for consumers to be aware of the problems that we are encountering. There are many other brands/products that can be purchased instead. We have never encountered such problems with any other brands/appliances we purchased. One thing is for sure, we will never purchase a GE product again. We will also never recommend GE products to anyone.
Sincerely,
J C
