My last dealing with Heilig Meyers turned out to be one of the biggest mistakes of my life! In 2000, I purchased a washer/dryer and mattress/box springs. It started going bad right away, because I was paying my payments in advance, and every time I would go in, they would claim I owed a late fee. I would have to argue with them every time a payment was due. Then, without any notice, they closed the store. They never sent me any information whatsoever about where to send payments, or how to contact them in any way. I waited patiently, months passed, and still nothing. At the end of 2000, I moved to a different city. Still, I had no idea how to take care of my debt. Now, almost seven years later, a law firm contacted my dad, and then myself, about the account. Unfortunately, I do not have the money to pay them off in a one-lump sum, and that is what they are expecting me to do. I feel that they do not have the right to insist on full payment, because it is not my fault that the debt has not already been paid! I would have gladly continued payments, if they had given me information on where to send them! Has anyone else faced this problem? What can I do to resolve this matter, without putting myself in a financial crisis? Thanx!
