My husband rented a car late at night from Hertz at Milan Malpensa Airport in December and dropped it at Hertz Verona in the early hours of the next morning. In March Hertz Italia sent a letter that they had charged his credit card 30 Euro for Hertz's paperwork regarding a verbale fine online incurred that night in Novate Milaese. When he called to question the ticket he was told they could not give him a citation number or any information about the ticket due to privacy concerns. Hertz charged his card again for the same thing in May. We think this is a scam perpetrated on non-Italian renters because some Hertz employees or or perhaps the Roma Corporate office thinks foreigners will just pay the charges without question or protest.
