They charge more in Canada for the same item
I went to buy a new wet/dry vac from the Home Depot. I was looking at the Ridgid WD1450 53L Wet/Dry Vac. The price at my local Home Depot is $149.00. I checked the price on the American HomeDepot.Com website for the exact same model number and found that the price was $99.00.
This is a 50% difference. The Canadian dollar has been on par now for quite a long time and this kind of discrepancy should not still be in place. I am in Winnipeg so it is not like this is some remote far off location.

Poor service
I was told by home depot that my granite countertop was ready three weeks ago, yesterday july16, 2008, home depot told us they would be here to install, we waited all day, they did not show up.
Now today we had to call the installers, only to find out they will not be here till Monday. We have never been treated so poorly by any store before, we will never buy anything at home depot that has to be prepaid. I hope this will help other consumers to be aware of prepaying for anything at home depot.
Also every time I called, they said they would return my call, but never did.

Bad service
I purchased a torchiere floor lamp from Home Depot in Apopka FL. The glass bowl broke and I went to HD to inquire about a replacement globe. The lighting department employee gave me a 800 number to King of Fans. KOF told me it was not their product and gave me a number for Hampton Bay. The HB automated customer service line (God forbid being able to speak with a human), re-directed the call to Home Depot - where I spent the next 30 mins on hold and finally gave up. I am willing to pay for the replacement globe, but where can I buy it? The SKU on the lamp is 162-916 and the UPC is 050276844136.

Stay away
On May 30, 2008 I went to Home Depot for carpet installation estimate. I was told that I have to pay $35 for measurement, I thought that was fair so I paid the $35. It took a week for the estimator to come and measure the house and a few more days to get the measurement to Home Depot. They did not have the carpet in stock, I was told that it will be there in a week, so I went ahead and paid for the carpet, padding, installation, etc. Although I paid for the measurement, they won't give me a copy of the layout. Three weeks later, they finally got the carpet but nobody called me, I had to come to the store to check. I was promised that someone will call me in a couple of days. The installer called me 4 days later, telling me that he can't install the carpet for another 18 days (July 28, 2008)! I started the process 2 months ago and I don't have my carpet yet, and who knows what else comes up during the installation, if it ever gets installed! I tried to cancel, but I was told I will have to pay a 15% re-stocking charge. This is ridiculous - I won't wish this on anyone and won't recommend Home Depot Carpet Installation.

No service
Have GE profile washer and dryer. Washer doesn't clean clothes, dryer not working at all for 7 weeks. Placed calls / e-mails to home depot corp. Offices ad GE customer complaints, still no service, cant get equipment replaced, but it is still under warranty! Terrible service, beware all!

Failing organization
Home Depot was a well run organization when it first hit the scene. It has now become another large company that has forgotten about the customer. It's recent attempts to change it's philosophy continue to fail. This past year alone I have several stories of not having any aisle assistance, but today will by last trip to any home depot.
I dedicated today to cleaning up the yard which included taking two dead trees back to the Bellingham MA Home Depot. I literally pulled them up from the ground and brought them back in buckets. The return cashier stated she could not take them back without receipt as they were live products. I understood the need for the receipt, however the trees still had the original brand new looking SKU ticket and tags on the trees. The customer service rep just thought it nothing for me to go get the receipt and come back. She mustn't be watching the news or the gas price situation. Eventually she offered to search by sku number and by my credits cards and could not identify the product by either. This was surprising as I have bought literally dozens of trees on these cards in the past year. I asked for the store manager as I hoped someone would understand the common sense of having the new sales tags on the trees corresponding to new purchases, and the fact they couldn't find the sku or my card a problem with their system. The Supervisor proxy sent was equally as unsympathetic to my plight, so I departed with a polite thank you.
When I arrived home, I called Home Depot customer service. At first I couldn't understand the gentleman who answered. When I explained my issue, he asked how I could resolve the issue. I stated that it was not a money issue but at the store I had bit my tongue not to embarrass anyone by explaining why Lowes was now going to be my only superstore provider going forward, and that I wanted to know why with all the common sense evidence my trees would not be accepted as a return. The customer service rep said he would get the store manager on the phone with me to discuss. As suspected, I knew this was just the standard BS, as the store management solidified the HD customer service LACK of commitment and care. The call ended with the service rep reading me a couple of rules about returns, all of which ignored the common sense of some guy working in his yard looking to quickly return two plants that had attached documentation never removed from the tree.
This was my very last trip to Home Depot in either personal or professional capacity. I have instructed my employees to use any other sources as the potential time involvement in problem resolution will be costlier than any gas price will dictate. These people just don't get it.

Slow leak behind fridge
Well, they redid the kitchen and behind the fridge they used a piece of plastic so there was a slow leak and it ruined my floors. They did the installation, they did the work i paid for it to be done right and now my house is ruined.

False advertisement and bad services
I recently purchase a small place which required me to make a lot of trips to Home Depot for my own home improvement. At first, I was very happy with this place because of all the things that they have. Unfortunately, my first good impression did not last that long.
As I was searching to remodel my bathroom, I saw a vanity top display that I really like. The advertisement said that vanity top will take 7 days for special order. I placed my order on June 7 and now is July 2 and no one that I called has an answer for me.
Beside this false ad, their service is not great either. When I was at the store around Story Road (San Jose, CA), I wanted to place an order. I found a guy that work there, he said that he doesn’t do special order, he will find me someone else. And guess what, I was waiting at the spot, but the guy disappeared. I asked another one, who basically doesn’t know it either and ask me to come back.
I still wanted that glass vanity top so badly, so I went to another store on Capitol (San Jose, CA). They seem nicer, but they still kicked me out because, there were not enough people for special order. I had to come back the next day, just to place the order. The guy is nice, but my order still not here.
I guess I signed the paper that doesn’t have an exact date that the order should be in as they advertise.
Anyway, they left me a message that said my vanity is damage so they have to reorder. I called again to check, and they said it should be in about 1 PM on June 30, but I should call first.
Guess what, I called around 2:44 PM to check and they said my order is in. I asked them more than once that if everything is in, the guy that I talked to said yes. I went to pick it up, the vanity top is still missing. I talked to the manager, he said “Sorry, but I can’t do anything” I don’t really get it, if the manager can not take care or no what is going on than who do we talk to?
I wanted to cancel, but they said you are not allowed to even if this was their fault. The manager told me he will call me today, but haven’t heard anything from him. I called again today and talked to a lady. She seems very nice, but just like other people at Home Depot don’t keep their words. I told her about my situation, she PROMISED she will call me right back, but never heard a word from her.
Anyway, what pissed me most is they don’t give you an answer. Their attitudes are like “I’M A BIG store, ONE CUSTOMER WON’T MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN MY INCOME” I’m just sick and tired of waiting. I guess maybe I have to wait for 30 years to get my vanity which I fully paid. On top of that, I also have to pay the guys that suppose to fix my bathroom some fee so they can reschedule for they can not work without a vanity.
MY WHOLE POINT IS YOU BETTER READ THOSE SMALL PRINT WHEN YOU PURCHASE STUFF FROM home depot BECAUSE THEY WILL TRICK YOU AND WASTE YOUR MONEY.
I hate writing and I spend this much time to write is clearly tells you home much disappointments I have with Home depot.

Ripped off and over priced
I recently wanted to have my bathroom remodelled so I went to Home Depot for an estimate.
What a mistake.
To remove a one piece shower tub liner, then install a bath tub that I purchased, and also purchased the new tile and fixtures they still were going to charge me $5780!!!
Their guy comes in with laser beams to measure and a computer to print out an estimate like some geek at MIT. That's why it was going to cost me $5780!!
I had a private contractor come out bearing a pencil and a tape measure, and he did the same job for under $1200, and it looks great.
Back to Home Depot:
When the contractor went to Home Depot to get my bath tub the Home Depot idiots had sold the original tub I paid for the night before "by accident".
After a battle with them and a call to the VP in Maine they finally found me a "new" tub at another store. My contractor picked it up brought it to my house and opened the box...The tub was cracked and was used!
I was pissed beyond belief. Home Depot swore to me this was a new tub they were getting me. Obviously they never checked it.
So I had to go to Lowes. What a difference in service. Lowes actually had the same tub and they were going to deliver it my home that instant after hearing how HD screwed me.
Home Depot I will never shop there again even to by dirt...you suck!! And the $50 gift card you sent me you can stick it where the sun doesn’t shine. That was insulting.
I have spent over $9000 at your store in the last 2 yrs and this is how you treat your customers.
Now I think back when you installed my windows did I get taken to the cleaners then too??

The worst
The Bloomfield, CT Home Depot is the worst Home Depot of them all. I don’t spend any more money at ANY Home depot because of the way I am treated there. I own a business and used to easily spend at least $60, 000 a year with them. I will go to Lowe’s or a small hardware store even if I have to drive further or spend more money. The customer service is a joke. I could write a book on horror stories. Every one I know has the same bad experiences there. I can’t believe that this store hasn't been shut down yet.
