Outright mail fraud!
Like many others in rural areas, I was excited at the notion of 'high speed' internet. So I took the dive with Hughes Net and agree they are nothing but a rip-off. You cannot advertise 'high speed' internet and have a download speed of 11. I had four times that speed at 1/4 the cost with dial up. But I'm told I need to 'upgrade my equipment'. System was installed Jan 8th. I'm getting out before my so-called 'evaluation period' ends and cut my costs. I'll be happy to join others in a class action suit for mail fraud at any time. I'm also contacting everyone I can, every better business bureau, every corporate officer and will have a website set up to gather information on Hughes Nets activities. Their satellite interferes with my TV satellite reception, I can't get to my AOL email account from home now, my computer slowed after making 'adjustments' to assist speed. The list goes on and on. We need to join and fight this.

Terrible experience!
I've got my original complaint posted somewhere on this board. It covers most everything talked about here except for one thing. I emailed customer service (what a joke!) as to why I couldn't view Yahoo! News video clips without enduring a re-buffering session every seven to ten seconds. I could only watch about five seconds of video before the re-buffering started again.
I received an actual response!!! This is the first time any of my emails have been answered. Bottom line is that customer service told me in their email that a subscriber cannot view streaming video with Hughes Net because of the time it takes for the signal to reach the dish. The email said that "satellite internet service is not like broadband where streaming video is concerned." Gee, I thought the pretty lady on the absurd television ad refers to Hugh Net with terms like, "high speed" and "broadband."
One person that read my original posting wrote me and said that he dumped Hughes Net in the middle of the contract and subscribed to the AT&T internet card for his laptop. He says it's a great service. I got on the AT&T site but the coverage is not available where I live or I would have dumped Hughes.

Terrible service!
Hughes net is horrible! We mostly surf the web and occasionally when we need to download, the FAP is put on us for not 8-12 hours like they say, but at least 24. I checked our usage and we purposely shut our computer off and unplug the connection every night. It's funny that there will be usage when we are asleep. It can be 24 minutes or 30 minutes, but noone is at the computer because it's off and unplugged from the internet. Sounds like something fishy is going on.

Unbelieveably TERRIBLE service
I just checked my satellite speed and the results were 72 down and 38 up and Hughes Net has the nerve to call this high speed internet service?? What a joke! I also just called the toll free number to ask WHY it is so slow and was told the wait time could be in excess of 30 minutes. Imagine that!! Everyone in the world is calling them for the same reason___POOR SERVICE but HIGH MONTHLY PREMIUMS -and the service is NO better than dial-up--matter of fact this junk makes dial up look better every day-and the cost is MUCH cheaper-this is the biggest rip-off i have ever experienced. Stay away from this provider.

Terrible company!
Instead of everyone writing a complaint on this site just so Hughes net can delete it before the public has knowledge of their fraudulent claims as being high speed internet providers. We all need to go to www.ftc.com and complain and they can't delete a complaint made to them.

Lousy service!
This internet company advertises to be High speed internet__WHAT A JOKE. They are no faster than dial-up but cost 4 times the amount of dial up. They are sooo nice to you at customer service UNTIL they install the junk (which will set your bank acct. back about $450.00) and you immediately start having problems and you call customer service and get someone in India that cannot understand you and keep you on the phone for an hour or so, then tell you they have to transfer you to advance technician which may be in the Philliphines or MAYBE Florida and you stay on the phone for another hour or two going over the same things you did the numerous times that you have called before. You can e-mail them with a problem and they tell you that you will have to call customer service that the problem requires REAL TIME ASSISTANCE which it actually does if you are willing to stay on the phone at least 4 or 5 hours every day. It is the biggest RIP_OFF ever--STAY AWAY from this provider!!!

NOT worth the money!
I pay $60 a month for SLOW internet service. Also not ALLOWED to do downloads or Hughes Net WILL shut your internet service OFF for 24 hrs. I can pay $25 a month 4 cable internet which is 100 TIMES FASTER. We paid $600 for the equipment that IS faulty. The CUSTOMER SERVICE hardly speaks English & does not give HELP at all! If you sign up with Hughes Net your are waisting thousands of dollars and SLOW internet service with very limited capabilities! Don't buy into Hughes Net. Its a waist of TIME & MONEY!

Aways slow!
"Clear view of the Southern Sky." What a Joke. when these clowns installed our satellite dish, they put it behind a 30 foot pine tree. Our connection is very slow 90% of the time. In fact, it is only fast about 3% of the time. When we called and complained, we got a non english speaking person. After several calls, we have been told to Pay $230.00 to move the Satellite dish from behind the tree. We been told it is our wireless net work. We replaced that with no changes in slow service. We were told to upgrade. EXCUSE ME! You offer non english speaking support, Piss poor installation of the dish, no refunds for crap as service and YOU WANT MORE OF MY MONEY FOR AN UPGRADE!!! Dial up is more reliable and quicker than what we have. We are dumping Hugesnet.
