Limited usage!
I run a business from home and can't even send and receive information from my clients with out reaching their 350 mb limit in a 24 hour period. I pay $79.00 a month for slow as dial up service and have for years because that is all I can get.

Advertising fraud
Hughes Net - www.hughesnet.com
You read in their ads - Download large files in minutes, not hours. Enjoy Internet music and video. Well guess again. What they didn't tell you is that you can only do it once, then your download threshold max's out and your back to dial up speed for the next 24 hours ( or more ).
I had an older computer and because of our dial up system the update weren't current. As soon as we were connected it started catching up, since no one warned me and I had no idea about the " Fair Access Policy" in no time I was back to dial up speed.
I fought with my router I installed for two days thinking I had something wrong. I finally had the speed back " hurray " but then guess what, updates started in again and I was back to the beginning.
Now I know about the "Fair Access Policy" and the max 425 mb you can download in 24 hours.
Their advise was: If you run live updates for the anti-virus, media players, operating system etc please make sure that these will come under your usage. To have control over this you need to make sure that, when you are not using your computer, please remove the LAN cable to stop these auto-updates.
This is not what is advertised and no where in the advertisement does it say your limited and after spending $ 400. for equipment not counting the router and $80. for a monthly charge with a 2 year contract I do not believe I'm getting my money's worth. Thank God I'm still in the 30 day satisfaction period and I will be canceling.

Poor customer service!
Just to add my terrible experience and reiterate if there is any other high speed alternative to take. My internet service was down for 32 days before it was finally fixed. Complete disregard of customer service and technicians. It was all due to faulty equipment. I lodged a formal complaint and never was contacted after being promised I would be. I spent a total of 15 hours on multiple service calls before they finally got the right equipment to me. The delays are completely unacceptable.

Bad service and money issues!
We signed up with Hughes Net because we had no other choice for internet besides dial up. It advertises to be very fast and they had a promotion of paying the $400 up front charges monthly with a 2 year contract. We had it two days and it was slower than dial up and they took $496.97 out of my checking account since they had my debit card number causing numerous NSF fees on my bank account. So I was out over $600 to which I couldn't spare. I called and also my husband. We talked to 6 different departments for over 3 hours total and only got the run around. We told them we wanted to cancel that we were very unhappy. They are letting us ship back the unit but only are willing to refund us $299. That $199 is installation charges are not refundable (we are not happy with the way the dish was installed also) and they can't do anything about the NSF charges because it's not their policy. I think the whole company is a big rip off. They only allow very minimum time on the computer and then they slow your connection down to a crawl for 24 hours, refuse to credit back our account when we chose to do the zero down option, and will only refund half our money for canceling before the allowed 30 day cancellation period. They say satisfaction guaranteed, HA! That's a joke! I wish I had done a search on this company before I signed up with them, then I would have seen the millions of complaints. I don't see how they stay in business. I HATE THIS COMPANY!

Deceitful practices of Hughes Net!
BEWARE of Hughes Net... we got their deal... and went with the $59.99 a month plan... after the $500 equipment charge. at NO TIME did anyone mention... that there was a LIMIT to the number of MEGA BITES you could download in one day. We accidentally went over and our computer wouldn't move. Called Hughes Net... they said "OH you've gone over your Mega Bite download"... we said OH we didn't know there was such a thing. Needless to say our computer was then render useless for the next 24 hours. They were very deceitful in not telling us that... cause had we known we would not have went with Hughes Net.

Perfect example of bad business!
The FAP policy that has been enacted out of the blue on hughes net is unfair! I cannot even update my bank account information without sending us over the limit. Where did this come from and do we have any recourse? This is not the service level I signed on for. Has anyone looked into a class action lawsuit? I bought my Directway equipment out right and was very happy. Then came Hughes. YUCK! Problems with Email and service are on going. This is a perfect example of bad business.

Slow speed internet!
I would say that at least 50% of the time, this supposed DSL service is as slow as or slower than Dial-up. I have actually gone back to my dial up service to check my Hughes Net email, since it was faster. For the price they charge, this is unacceptable. Hughes Net is the only company that offers DSL in my location. Am seriously thinking about going back to Dial-up.

Charged $5.00 a month for invoice I'm not allowed to receive
The company I work for has been using Hughes Net for a few years (unfortunately for us). They recently started charging us $5.00 a month for an invoice. They shut off our service due to non payment. The funny part is we never received an invoice. When I called Hughes Net they stated we can no longer receive invoices by mail we have to register with Hughes Net online and download our bill that way. But we still have to pay the $5.00 invoice charge. Explain that one. If they are even only choice for service don't use the internet. It's not worth it.

Poor service!
My business, which relies on Hughes satellite service, has been inoperable for 3weeks! I'm under warranty, and all they do is run me around in circles without repairing my service. I have contacted every one under the sun, including th BBB and the FCC. I guess that after 2 yrs of satellite service, I'm going to have to back to dial-up! All I can say is if you can get ANYTHING else do it!

Awful customer support!
It's pretty bad when you pay hundreds of dollars to get something installed, and when you have a problem and need to get in contact with someone about it, you're connected with someone in India who you can't understand. I have no prejudice against them, but the customer support is awful. You can hardly understand them as it is, but they treat you like you're supposed to be a computer genius. After they realize that you can't understand, they argue with you for half an hour about what's wrong with your internet. It's ridiculous and it needs to be changed.
