VERY POOR SERVICE
I placed an order to upgrade my Hughesnet Equipment 12-04-07. The Rep. called me while I was at work....took 1/2 day off (lost money) to meet him and take him to my home to up-grade.......Defective DW7000 (as I was told by installer)...4 hours later......he left my home with no excuse as to why......all I see is his tail lights leaving my driveway! I called Customer support and at this point I feel I was "blown off". I will let this board know what happens.....A class action suit needs to be put in place!
I am so angry! I try to be a gentleman in everything I do, but, I would be fired if I did this to one of my customers! (as it sould be!). Hughes Comm. CHECK YOURSELF!!!!!!!!!!!!!

slow internet
I got Hughesnet because it's the only thing available besides dialup. But now I am wondering if I should have just went with dial up anyway. It would have been a lot cheaper. I don't know how they get away with charging so much for crappy internet service. I keep hoping that DSL will be available soon here. I know I'll end up having to pay to get out of my contract, but it will be worth it. To anyone looking for high speed internet, don't look to Hughesnet, because you won't get it.

Ridiculous service
I firmly believe that the only reason these people stay in business is because they prey on rural areas with no other access to service. Hughesnet is truly the most awful company I've ever had the misfortune of dealing with.
I got DirecWay two years ago and was satisfied with that service until Hughesnet stepped in. Since then, I have experienced nothing but problems: periodic service outage lasting several days, horrible download/upload rates, and customer service ranging from useless to downright incompetent. I am currently paying $80/mo for download rates that may hit 100kbps on a good day, upload rates that make dialup look state of the art, and slightly more wiggle room than basic accounts with their idiotic Fair Access Policy. Imagine that! If you dare exceed your allotted bandwidth, you are effectively offline for a full twenty-four hours and paying them for the privilege. (Keep in mind that this allotted bandwidth isn't even remotely enough if you're a medium to heavy user; you might be able to download two or three CDs off of iTunes before the Fair Access Policy kicks in. Hughesnet's FAP makes it completely impossible to use any online movie downloading services, as offered by Amazon.com or other pay services.) If I ever have problems with the service, I have to sit and wait it out for a few days until it clears up; after spending an estimated 40-50 hours total with Customer Service, I have learned that it is not worth 3 to 5 hours of my time in one sitting for absolutely NOTHING to ever get accomplished.
Even now, on Thanksgiving Day, I am being disconnected every 5 to 10 minutes, rendering all realtime applications (such as online games or instant messaging) impossible to use. Customer service? Useless as ever. I've already spent an hour on the phone with them, and am on hold even as I write this complaint.
A warning to all people considering satellite internet: Hughesnet is a sham of an internet service provider and you would be much better served by just about anything else. I live in a rural area where the only other option I have is to switch back to dial-up, and I am honestly considering it. I am sick of this service.

I can't believe I'm paying so much for such horrible service!
I have now been on the phone for over 2 hours with several different people. All I want to do is get out of my horrible service with HughesNet! I have never been treated so poorly! Usually I'm a big pushover, so when I wasn't able to understand any of the technical support people, I felt like I shouldn't complain. Today I've finally complained, and have found out just how rude and unhelpful these people really are.
This internet system is slow, and often unavailable. It has cost me a fortune, and I would have to pay 500 bucks to get out of it. DSL is finally out my way, but unfortunately I'm stuck with these awful HughesNet people. I assume they make everything as difficult as possible on their customers so that we give up and feel like our only option is to continue with their service. I wish I could sue them for breach of contract to get out of it! Or participate in a class action suit of some sort. They bully decent people like me and take our hard earned money, and they should not get away with it.

Service is a joke!
I have been with HughesNet when it was called direcpc and all you got was the download side, no upload. Since then the service has went down hill fast. FAP use to last only a few hours and now it last for 24hrs. (what a joke) I live in a rural area and my only isp other than phoneline is Hughes. I am thinking about going back to phoneline and just rent DVD's and buy music CDs If anyone knows of a better isp please email me. Good luck everyone.

Fair Act Policy (FAP)
I submitted a complaint earlier but not sure if it got posted. I have been with HughesNet back when it was called direcpc. Back then they just had download and no upload, had to use phonline to surf net. I live in a rural and this is why I chose HughesNet because phoneline net was to slow. HughesNet sucks so bad I tried to download and watch a movie online and got put on (FAP) for 24 hours. What a ripoff!!! HughesNet does have a message board and when I posted my complaints HughesNet deleted my post by the next day. I guess they have monoply on satallite isp. I have been searching net for another isp with no good results. All I can say is beware to the new costumers but they probaly will not read these post until they have already been jacked by hughesNet. Are there any honest companies in the world??? If you konw of a good isp for rural users please email me at [email protected]. Good luck everyone...

Very slow internet!
I pay over $100.oo per month for this satellite service. It's sooo slow. Dial up modem was faster. On line tests show that the service is within their guidelines, and that the problem lies with heavy traffic at various times of the day.

Poor service!
Ug. I have been violated. I closed out my credit card so they can't steal any more money from me. I just got it today and payed 125 buck for a 'non-typical' installation... a six dollar pole and a six dollar bag of quickcrete.
I use internet connectivity for online game playing. Forget. This product is useless to me with 2 second lag. The C.S. and tech's have been trained to call it "Latency". 'Sorry for the inconvenience of the latency, sir'... B.S. It isn't just inconvenient, its unusable. No downloading, no game playing, no video watching or music listening. CRAP CRAP CRAP.
At least they can't hurt my credit. I got no disclaimers about not being able to do normal internet things... they just came out and hooked it up. I got no disclaimers about having such limited service. Man, I thought broadband was supposed to be a decent service. Well, satellite broadband definitely IS NOT!!!

Poor Service
I wish I had found this website before I had ordered HughesNet. I am unable to get DSL and dialup is so slow. HughesNet was installed last Tuesday and in the past 10 days I have had only maybe 3 days total of service (and not at the speed advertised). I have been on the phone with people who have such heavy accents they are difficult to understand and when transferred to Advanced Tech Support, which is in Fla., I am still led through the same routine of changing frequencies, etc. One day I was on the phone for over 4 hours! Tomorrow they are sending the installer techs to my house (2nd time). The first time I was assured the problem is resolved - the next evening the service was gone. We'll see what happens tomorrow. If it is the same story of no service, this equipment is going back and the first charge on my credit card is being removed from my statement after I call the credit card company! Life is too short for this aggravation!!

Better Business Bureau should investigate them
Hughesnet sucks, there is no other way to put it. Their FAP program was news to me and my family. Never was told about it during all of the phone calls prior to sign up. 200mb a day, after that dial up looks fast. It was in the disclaimer. If anyone ever asks me about it I tell them to run and run fast as far away as possible. If you ever have to call customer service I hope you can understand foreign languages. Always ask for advanced tech support. At least they are located in the USA and speak english. I am done ASAP. In 11 months of service I have never reached to promised speeds, not even close. The Better Business Bureau should investigate them. A class action lawsuit would be better, false claims made on TV.
