I am a recipient of SSDI, I receive just $783.00 per month, I live independently. I suffer from a disabling, severe, chronic condition. I am chronically unemployed. I applied for food stamps after moving to my new apartment, and I was only approved for $26.00 a month. I am heavily in debt relying on credit cards and loans. The federal government gives my state of Il food stamp money for people like myself on social security. but my state refuses to dole out the money to impoverished people like my self on social security, Instead they gives the money to non citizens, working poor, and their friends, some of whom have very good jobs. Most people like myself have to live in nursing homes because of lack of help by human services. My state indifference is blatant. But no one cares because most of the people are black. The state of Illinois will pay my medicare and prescription drug cost, but only because of federal law.
