Fraudulently signed me up for $19.95 per mo identity protection
All I did was order a background report. They signed me up for an identity protection package that I did not order!
I pride myself in being very vigilant and usually very good at spotting scams and shady loopholes for getting suckered into such subscriptions, but they obviously did a very good job of burying it into the 'Legalese' of my purchase.
I would suggest not even doing business with them since it's not apparent at all where this little 'catch' is in the order process. I am disputing this with my bank and am going to report them to the attorney general in Oregon.

I REGISTED WITH INTELIUS ABOUT A WEEK A GO TRYING TO FIND MY FAMILY MEMBERS AND I HAVE NOT RECIEVED NO INFORMATION YET ABOUT NOTHING AND THEN I AM BEING CHARGED FOR SOMETHING THAT THEY DIDN'T SEND ME!!! I WANT TO CANCEL MY ACCOUNT AND I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND NO ONE TO INTELIUS SITE TO LOOK FOR NO ONE CAUSE THEY ARE A SCAM ARTIST AND A RIP OFF!!!

Fraud
Charged $4.95 for one time search - then said I signed up for monthly $19.95 membership. Emailed right away this was incorrect - email was ignored. If you were a legitimate company you would not need to "trick" people into signing up for a membership. There are complaints all over the internet; a company that wants to stay in business and have loyal customers would change their marketing if this many people thought they were being scammed. You know what you are doing and it is completely intentional to take money from people. YOu should be disgusted with your business practices!!! Use US Search, best company out there and they give you your money back when you don't get a REAL result.
Oh but that's right -without the scams you wouldn't have any real revenue!

unauthorized money withdraw
they have taken close to 100.00 out of my account without authorization. I can't get in touch with anyone to stop any more withdraws, any advise? I am going to involve my attorney i guess.

Fraudulent Charges continue
Signed up for Search program on a month, one time basis, and did one search on the first day. Didn't use it again. They have charged my credit card for two more months on the 30th of each month without my authorization. I have tried to contact them with no results or response to email. I have contacted my bank and they said that I need a negative response, in writing before they can take it off my account. How can I get a response, in writing, if they don't respond?

Deceptive business practices
They offered a 99-cent special on a reverse phone lookup, which I paid for with my credit card. In making this purchase, their web site kept trying to push me into a monthly service subscription for $19.95/month. I thought I had succeeded in purchasing the 0.99 search without signing up for the monthly charge, but, you guessed it -- they charged my CC $19.95.
Called their customer service (did not experience any long wait time, at least). Service rep told me that the fee could not be refunded (as I had "agreed to the terms of the subscription"). After getting nowhere with telling the rep that at no time did I see any notice that I was signing up for monthly service, I told her that I would be calling my CC company to dispute the charge. It was only at that point when she put me on hold to "talk to a supervisor, " and upon coming back on the line informed me that the charge would be refunded in 7-10 days. We'll see. I also told her to confirm with me that any and all memberships/subscriptions/or affiliations that I had with them were cancelled, which she did.
Bottom line: Don't use these guys. The 99-cent search that I paid for did not have any of the information in it that they promised, and it's clear that their business model revolves heavily around duping customers into subscribing to services that they never intended to order.

cancellation of free trial
I have been trying to cancel with intelius since last friday 4/22/11 and have been unable to do so. They are telling me in order to cancel I need to pay a fee of $49.95 which is absurd! You should not have to pay to have a trial period cancelled. they are refusing to to put my funds back on my debit card. I want them to return my money back on my greendot mastercard immediately without me having to pay a uncalled for cancellation fee. I will be calling the better business bureau on this company if my funds are not returned to me by thursday 4/28/11. I need someone to help me retrieve my funds asap. Thank you for any help anyone can give me.

Fraudulent Charges
Intelius submits recurring fraudulent charges to your account on a monthly basiI used Intelius one time to purchase a "report." Since that time, the company has submitted numerous monthly charges to my bank without my knowledge or permission. There is no way to redress this situation; when you try to get in touch with someone from the company there is no way to reach them. And so the charges keep coming and coming with no recourse...and thats the way it goes. on and on and on. And the company does this to numerous other people, from what I see on the internet. They should be shut down if this contninues.
