Attempt to defraud businesses of cash
This company calls, tells you they're going to get your business name, number, and address on a bunch of search engines for you for free. Then, they have you to talk to an automated recording service to "verify" all your information. The live person talks with you to "explain" what the recording is saying, distracting you from what the recording is really saying. After about 4 or 5 questions, the recording asks if you agree to pay $39.99 or so per month. You have to be listening very closely, because the live person will be "explaining" what's going on to you, to intentionally distract you from hearing what you're agreeing to. It is very, very fraudulent, and I regret so badly not being able to record the entire conversation. It would definitely make a good comedy skit, except for the fact that I'm certain they pull the wool over many people's eyes. This is the most blatant fraud attempt I've ever known of, or ever even seen on television. It's so bad, that it seems like I should be on candid camera or something. It's absolutely preposterous they are really allowed to continue doing this by any government agency, it's really unbelievable. I can't think of any words strong enough to describe how pitiful this is.
