Steve Janks appears to think the only mistake he made on our remodel job was not pulling permits. This is simply amazing. He was found guilty of stringing lamp shade wire through walls, installing windows too small to meet fire egress codes, a stairway that was not to code and much more. As he testified that all work was done to code, it's logical to conclude that he either did not know what the code required or did not know what his employees were doing.

He remains unapologetic to this day even though it is pretty clear to me that we or our guests could have been injured or worse. Why Janks refused to correct the issues we, our attorney and inspectors identified to him is something only he can address. We not only asked him to complete the job and correct deficiencies, we demanded it in writing.

Only when he refused to fulfill his obligations to us were we left with no choice but to litigate. At the end of the day, it's worked out for the best. If Janks had fixed the obvious deficiencies that we identified initially, I doubt that we would have found out through experts about the safety hazards Janks created in our home, perhaps until it was too late. I thank my lucky stars just about every day for that good fortune.
