KERA ACCEPTS STOLEN MONEY TO PROMOTE SCAM COMPANY DESIGN LEGACY ON AIR! According to Dallas NPR affiliate Membership Services associate Sarah, KERA feels no obligation to verify that the companies the station heavily promotes during pledge periods are, in fact, ethical, law-abiding entities. Case-in-point: On October 6, 2010, KERA very favorably promoted well-known scam company Design Legacy and its criminal owner, Kelly 'O'Steal' O'Neal in exchange for a $1500 dollar pledge, money stolen from local artists. Does anyone feel that any non-profit should benefit from knowingly accepting blood money, no matter how hard times are? Is there no obligation on a public radio station's part to do even a cursory background check on the companies they promote on-air? If, say, the New Hitler Youth Party wanted to donate, should KERA gladly accept their funds? Or how about the KKK? Where do we draw the line on what is acceptable and morally right or completely unwarranted and ethically repugnant? Shame on KERA for promoting this scourge on the Dallas retail community, a company with a long, well-documented history of swindling artists, manufacturers, designers, craftspeople and even elderly neighbors out of millions of dollars over the last few years!
