I received a letter last month from this "lawyer" who stated I owed almost $11, 000 on an unpaid Citibank card...quite odd since I've only had one Citibank card from 2000 (paid in full and verified) and nothing reported on my credit report. I called and was THREATENED and harassed about this "debt" I owed. I made mistakes in the past, but paid off everything outstanding over two years ago. I contacted Citibank and they informed me that this "company" will sometimes buy old accounts sent to collections because they pay nearly nothing to then bully people into making a payment. DO NOT MAKE A PAYMENT OR GIVE THEM ANY PERSONAL INFORMATION!! Once you make a payment, you are accepting responsibility for the debt and admitting fault. Not only that, but they CAN begin to harass you for any outstanding balance (if there is indeed a balance) and you may have been over the years required by law for responsibility. Do your research and know the law!!!

Also, send them a certified letter asking for verification of account. They must provide original document with original signature...if they are unable to do so (which they won't since it had most likely been bought and sold numerous times by numerous companies). Good luck and hopefully something will be done about this HORRIBLE company that preys on people who don't know the law.
