I am doing a Kitchen remodeling and was contacted by a "Liscensed Contractor", he came out and gave me an estimate. Well anyhow on the second work day he sent his assistant, a kid from the neighborhood with an old truck worth about $500.00. The kid did a good enough job, but there is a big difference in the quality of a professional Liscensed Contractor and a kid who had been doing it since he was 15 years old and was perhaps 22 years old. The difference I'v learned is a Contractor has accounts that he can use and is priced in the work he is expected to do, where a laborer has to ask the customer to become the errand boy. My quote for the job was to include the materials. That did'nt happen. The Kid who worked for the contractor was called off the site to help with a plumbing problem and would not be back.The job which was suppose to be for $700.00, turned out to be $1005.00 One thousand and five dollars. It would of been more if it had not been for the fact that I had the materials for the Neighborhood Kid to use. The Kid did do a good job, but I felt it was a cheap trick and my expectations and standards was reduced.
