Rip off
They ripped me off for 50.85 charged my card then tell me my card was declined and they refused to issue a credit or send the product. T
Like many others on here I was ripped off by MagicJack. I saw the tv advertisements and checked it out on the web. Since I had used internet phone services for the last few years, I thought this would be a great thing to have. Man I could not have been more wrong. I never actually received the device to see if it works but from other reports on here apparently there are issues there as well. My beef is in billing support and being ripped off by the company itself. I use a throw away debit card for all internet purchases so in case the card gets compromised i don't lose everything, and I minimize the damages. I simply go to WalMart and add funds enough to cover the amount of purchase I am going to make. Then I go home and make the charge. When I placed the order online I was billed for 39.95 for the magicjack and 6.95 shipping. I was then asked if I would like express shipping for an additional 3.95 I checked yes on that box and approved a charge of 50.85 That was on Friday 2/13/09. Yeah I know I should have known doing it on that day. Anyhow, On Monday I thought I would follow up to see if it had shipped and to get a tracking number. I quickly found out I could not call, they sell phone systems but do not do business with phones, so no phone number. No email either. They do have a chat line so I tried that. After about twenty minutes of mostly waiting and about two minutes of actual communication with an agent I was told my purchase was on hold due to my charge being denied by my credit card company. Like I said earlier, I use a throw away card and it showed the charge of 50.85 on 2/13/09 leaving me a balance of less than 2.00. Since the charge 50.85 included all shipping charges including the express shipment, I tried to explain to the agent this charge must be in error and that I was already billed and the amount was deducted from my card for express shipping. She would have none of that and after an additional twenty or so minutes she finally put me through to the "next level" of support. I re explained everything to this person and eventually she understood and told me she would bump this up to the billing department and that my product would ship that day Monday. Total time wasted on chat just over 1 hour. I asked to speak to someone in billing and was told that is not possible. I asked for them to call me, and was told they do not have phones (odd a phone company would not have phone lines, and a BIG RED FLAG I might add.) I was reassured the product would ship and all was taken care of. I asked that at least I be emailed when billing had released the product for shipping. No email, nothing came back to me. Not an hour later a day later or even by the end of the week. On Friday, I clicked on the chat link again and here is my conversation. This company is a complete rip off. They went out of their way to talk in circles, not directly answer my questions and to for whatever reason not agree I had been charged the initial 50.85. Ken: Oh trust me I will be checking that but I want a response from you and not in 24 hours I want it now Ashton: I do like it but that's the stated time, I can assure you. Ashton: It is impossible to send a email confirmation right away. Ken: If there is no refund credited to my account in 3-5 days I will be forwarding this to the attorney general to go along with the other 50 or so they have Ashton: Okay. No credible support
I have been in contact with MagicJack and thought you might like to know, their Chat/Technical Support staff is populated with idiots unable to think on their own. I posted a question to them, to wit. Can I connect the MagicJack to a wall phone outlet, no phones connected to it, so that all of the phones in all of the rooms of the house could use the MagicJack? After much explaining and haranguing it came down to. I would have to use a splitter and why string wires throughout the house to use the MagicJack with all of the phones. I asked why a splitter had to be used and why the house phone wiring couldn't be used. No answer. It seems they are hung up on splitters and when I asked why, they hung up (closed the chat session) on me, without answering. The higher support person I was chatting with was Dover. If this is the kind of support the customers can expect, I don't think they can be considered a viable option for phone service. Yes, I finally did get in touch with someone on their Chat line. It took quite awhile and I had to chase my tail for awhile, but success, such as it was. I did write to all the publications listed on their website and informed them of the situation.

I did get answer back from Dan Costa, of PC Magazine, he sent me a link to go to to share any comments. That e-=mail and letter link are: We just retested magic and changed the rating. You should log onto our blog and share your comments.

Totasl Rip-Off!
I ordered my magicJack from an ad on TV after hearing about it for a long time. Seemed like a good idea at the time! I recently got it, and spent more than 5 hours tonight trying to get the d##**&&@+ thing to work! First, it wouldn't download...couldn't even get far enough along to actually BEGIN to downkload! Kept getting error messages at first, then, after being on the phone with the "live Help" people for more than 3 1/2 hours, trying first one thing, then something else, then something ELSE...then getting disconnected & having to start all over with a new "customer service rep" . . . FINALLY!! . . . I was able to download!! YIPPEE!! Only, when I tried to register the thing, so I could actually USE it, I couldn't the Registration page to display any biggder than about 2" X 4", and could only see that much of the actual screen!! Couldn't scroll up or down, couldn't go back, couldn't page up or diown, couldn't DO ANYTHING EXCEPTY CLOSE THE PAGE!! Over & over we played this game...downloading upgrades, then uninstalling them, only to downkload it again a few minutes later. "Unplug the magicJack for 30 seconds, then plug it in again & IT WILL WEORK." oNLY, IT DIDN'T. So, I'd be told to unplug it again, wait, then plug it back in to a different USB port. Then download thr upgrade again and open the magicJack Registrastion. Same thing happened, over & over & over!!! I've been sitting since mid-afternoon, and it's now 12:19 IN THE MORNING!! And it still doesn't work!!! I've just been informed that when I discontinue my landline phone service, my phone company may very well drastically increase the cost of providing my DSL Internet service!! And they may not offer the service at all after I discontinue my phone service with them!!! And since the magicJack won't work at all without an Internet connection, it all ends up a totally convoluted, deeply frustrating, completely disillusioning experience!!

And it all sounded so GOOD, in the beginning!!!

Unauthorized charges
What a nightmare buying magicJack has been. Once I got it, it didn't work. There were no instructions. The 1-2-3 they say was wrong from the get-go. I got tech support on line, after navigating my way through the cyber jubgle they put up to insure you can't get to them. However, I wish I hadn't! They had me do things to my computer in an effort to get the device working that resulted, after being online with them for over five hours, in my losing my CD/DVD player burner.

The techs were arrogant and condescending...and I bet all were from Pakistan/India. I say all because I had to keep getting back to them. One tech told me to do something that ended up with my computer freezing up...had to just pull the plug and start over. Avoid this product at all cost...save yourself, save your money!

mac non-compatbility
MagicJack upgrade is not available for mac. They will not refund you past the trial period even if the unit doesn't work. The website says magicJack is compatible with intel macs. Not the case. Tech support will take you in circles for hours and insist you do the upgrade on a windows pc.

Undisclosed compatibility issues
I haven't been able to make this thing work for more than a day at a time. When I shut down the computer, the jack isn't recognized on boot up. I have repeatedly downloaded updates and it will work as long as I don't turn off the computer. If I do, same story. I went round and round trying to get the Live Chat customer service to pop up (they do that thing where they try to wear you out clicking page after page until you finally get to log in to the chat, "Click here... no click here.. no click here... try the FAQ, now type in your question... now click here"). Long story short, customer service said, "past 30 days... no refund." Period. I also never got the email with the renewal code for the second year I prematurely purchased when I ordered the darn thing. I asked numerous times to have it resent and they would say, "we resent it." and there was nothing in my box. "Can you check your junk mail settings, please?" They aint on. Believe me, I WANT THIS email. Anywho, they finally gave it to me in the LiveChat but I had to go through all my credit cards and give them 8 numbers off the card to verify my account.

Oh, and it turns out they KNOW it won't function with several popular music/media CD burning programs but they never mention that on the website. I was told to delete Nero software and it will work. Well, great... I paid more for a professional version of Nero than for the damn jack! Yeah, delete the software... that's an answer.

When I asked for a list of compatible software they said, "unfortunately, aint none." I am expected to buy different versions of burning software and have a go until I find one that works.

Do yourself a favor and DO NOT BUY THIS PIECE OF GARBAGE.

RMA PROBLEM
I NEED TO RETURN THESE PRODUCTS THAT I HAVE RECIEVED AND IT NEEDS TO COME OFF MY CREDIT CARD AND REFUND IS DEMANDED I HAVE TRIED THE RMA PROCESS AND THERE IS A BIG PROBLEM AND WE NEED TO RESOLVE IT ASAP

Can't get refund
I've been trying to get a refund for the extended service plan that I paid $59.95 for and doesn't even kick in until the end of my initial year of so-called service you get with the purchase of the MagicJack. However, their customer service people can not understand that and insist on interpreting my request as a request for a refund on the MagicJack itself which is beyond their 30-day period for a refund. I've sent out at least 8 emails to them trying to tell them I do not want a refund for the MagicJack itself, but for the extended service plan.

Anybody reading this should be warned NOT to buy this product. I had nothing but headaches with it from the start and mistakingly tried to get it to work beyond the 30-day refund period. MagicJack sounds too good to be true and it is.
