MagicJack Reviews

MagicJack is a RipOff
I went to the MagicJack web site. They had an offer to try the MagicJack for 30 days without charge. I started filling out the order form. When I got to the last page, which very clearly said 'Confirm Order', I noticed that it said they were going to charge my credit card right away, not in 30 days as the previous page had said. So I closed the browser. Did NOT click 'Confirm'
Later that day I get an email saying they were confirming my order and had charged my credit card. The email said I could reply to the email if there was a problem or needed to make a change. I replied to the email, stating that I did not confirm this order nor do I want the order.
The email bounced back saying that the email account was not valid.
I tried going to there chat. I told the girl 7 times (no exageration) that I wanted the order reversed an my money refunded. She then asked, 'Would you like me to cancel this order?'
Dah!!!
I told her yes, for the 8th time. She said it would be taken care of.
Guess what? It wasn't.
I had to go back the next day, to the chat, and go through the entire thing again.
They tell me again that it has been cancelled and I wil get my money back.
I am still waiting.
As far as I am concerned, this is theft. I did NOT give approval for the charges or the so called order.
STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY!!!
There is no one to talk to, other than the stupid chat window.
I did however manage to shame a phone number out of one of the girls.
I haven't tried it yet but she claims it is for their billing department.

Mel's Toupe
To Magicjack:

I have no clue as to the effectiveness of your product --- but have no interest in purchasing ANYTHING from a company that uses a pitch man like Mel Arthur. Is this guy for real? His toupe is absurd and I cannot take my eyes away from it and I cannot stop laughing long enough to actually review the product. Get a life, Mel!!! And when these people eventually pay you, buy a new hair piece that doesn't look like you got it at a Halloween store!!!

doesn't work in canada
I had recently ordered the so called magicjack and they do advertise that it works in canada. Upon doing the on-line registration it wouldn't let me enter my province of saskatchewan. I then talked to christine from the customer service and she checked into the problem and said there won't be any canadian provinces or area codes available till next year. She told me to use a U.S. phone number which means that when they issue your new phone number, anybody calling you locally will have to dial long distance to talk to you.So that means that to save your own long distance will cost your friends, family and loved-ones long distance charges to call you . What a bunch of CRAP !!! So a word of advice, if you are from canada don't waste your time with magicjack. I think that they are just MAGICLY trying to JACK us consumers

Watch out
MagicJack stresses in its ads that you can try it free for 30 days, and that all you need to do to use it is Plus any phone into it, plug it into any USBport, and pick up your phone to talk for free.Their material even includes quotes along the lines of "This is so easy that grandma can do it!"

HOWEVER, while my magicJack just arrived at my home around Dec. 15th, I just found out today (the 20th) that it must be physically back in their hands before the 30 days since I ordered it on the phone are up or you have ipso/facto ordered their product! In other words, I would have just about had to mail it back the day it arrived! So much for a free 30 day trial!

Another example of false or misleading advertising: they rave about how you can take the magicjack with you when you travel and call free from anywhere, but neglect to mention that you actually need TWO magicjacks if you use it for all your local and long distance calls.

There is also what I consider to be misleading advertising by omission. MagicJack loudly emphasizes that one of the service you get, like free voicemail, is a free number. It neglects to mention that this means you have to have a brand new phone number which will have the same area code but the rest of it, including the prefix, may bear no resemblance whatsoever to your current number! Grandma might be able to do the installation (though see my comment below) but I bet she didn't realize that she'll have to notify all her friends and business contacts of her new number!

When they refer to the easy 1-2-3- steps, they neglect to inform you that you must fill out a very confusing registration form before you can do anything. This form does such disconcerting things as ask you to select as an option free outgoing calls. Why would that be an option if the whole point is that you just buy the magicJack and then your telephoning is all free for a year? It also includes a Terms of Sale which again refers to opting for free outgoing service... When you look at FAQ, you're told that to get answers to relevant questions (e.g. are there any times of day that are not free or is the time of the call limited in any way, ) you must look at the Terms of Agreement, but if that info is buried in there somewhere I didn't see it.

To top things off, there is absolutely no direct contact info: no address or email or phone through which you can register a complainy (as opposed to asking how to do X or Y).

I am very, very disappointed in this product and will not recommend it to anyone.

charges on my bank account
I ordered the magicjack from tv and recieved it in the mail. They had already taken out the amount of money they said they were going to take. Today, they took $133.00 plus change out of my bank account!!! No one ever said anything about a charge like this. How can I get my money back and send this back to them? How can I stop them from getting any more money? Nevermind, I am contacting the Attorney General of the state I live in!

Scam/Fraud
After signing up last week and doing some Google searches on getting the device to work. I came across some complaint sites about Magicjack not being unlimited. I signed up for unlimited and it was advertised as, "Use the magicJack free for 30 days, make all the free calls you please. 100% Risk FREE - you pay nothing". It's right there, "MAKE ALL OF THE FREE CALLS YOU PLEASE". Also on their web page "Reviews" it says, "Free magicJack and a years unlimited USA calling".

Well went to their website and got in an online chat with an operator and then a supervisor, I questioned them about the unlimited plan. At first they would avoid the question by answering this,

"please be assured that your calls are free". I got the run around two or three times and then it went like this, "We don't have exact limit for magicJack - magicJack phone calls" and "Our service includes Free calls. But, we dont have the exact duration or limits".

So I ended the chat after hours or arguing with them and came back like a Vonage customer thinking about switching. He's a sample of the chat,

"No, Limited plans Nancy, The good thing about this is you renew the services yearly" and "Yes Nancy, you can call your Mom as long as you want" and "No Hidden agendas or even hidden charges Nancy" and "I am assuring you that you can talk all you want, and I will also assure you that you will Get a full refund within your 30 day trial after that I cannot say if you can Get your money back" and "Please do not worry Nancy you are given 30 days for a trial and a full money back guarantee. you have a month to try it out Nancy and we never terminate services not unless your on your expiration date".

Let this be a warning to anyone thinking about buying this device. It's not what they advertise.

Also, it demands a lot of computer resources and pop-up window (right in the middle of your work). They also force you with advertisement.
