Do not be fooled by the tour agents hired by the Mayan Palace to sell their time shares. They are dishonest and will cheat you. We were stopped on June 28th by Jesus from Tourist Advisory as we were getting off our American Airlines flight to Cozumel. Jesus pretended to be our tour guide transportation agent, our transportation to the hotel had already been paid. He began by offering us really discounted tours to which we all said "no thank you". He then offered us a Jeep rental for 3 days for $150, we declined and he dropped the price to $120. We decided to accept the Jeep rental for $120 for 3 days since we would enjoy our own transportation. We only planned to use it one day though when we toured the island, besides the trip to and from our hotel to the airport. When we returned the Jeep to Hertz, we were told we owed an additional $180 because we didn't attend the time share presentation at the Mayan Palace. Our rental agreement had been changed (with a different color ink so it really shows the fraud) and the "no balance due" line had been crossed off and a line which stated "balance due = $180" had been hand written next to the previous line. When we refused to pay the additional $180, we were told the Police would be called to deal with this situation and they would hold us long enough to miss our flight back home. Our husbands stood there arguing for 30 minutes before we gave up. We were forced to pay $180 to be able to board our plane. We have now filed a claim with Visa and they are disputing the charge so we hope to get our money refunded. STAY AWAY from Mayan Palace... They hire dishonest people.
