Memory Man Reviews

Garold March 6, 2009
Dissatisfied
Our large company orders large quantities of its memory from Memory Man. I was looking for a 256Meg SODIMM for my personal Compaq Armada M700 650Mhz so I gave them a call. I had found an exact part from a reputable ebay dealer for $56.00 + SH so I knew the basic price range of these. I was asked to talk to the specific person by our IT professional - the one they work with. I will call them Salesperson X for the purpose of this review. After explaining what laptop equipment I had, X told me they could supply the 256Meg for $44 + $7 SH and if I had any problems they would fix it. This was a great price from what I had found.
I ordered Jan 3, 2003 and it arrived over a week later from New Orleans, LA. The actual time in transit was 2 days at a cost of well under $2. The chip did not work. The laptop counted the now total 384Meg of memory properly but would lock on Windows boot. I noticed the speed was 133Mhz on the chip and my old 64Meg SODIMM was 100Mhz. I talked to our IT professional and they said it must be 100Mhz and for that specific model (the one I had described to Memory Man).
I called X and explained the problem. X gave me a ref # and asked to return it and they would return the same method I sent. I sent it out that day USPS standard w/ tracking for $1.38 on Jan 14 and MM received it Jan 16.
Now it gets interesting. I just received the 2nd round today Jan 23 (another week) and to my surprise it was a 128Meg SODIMM. I installed and it does work but at half the 256Meg amount originally ordered. I called X back and was told this was the closest in the price range to my order. No one bothered to try and contact me of this change in size. I reaffirmed that I had ordered 256Meg and that was what I expected - nothing more - nothing less. X now tells me the $44 chip I had ordered is now $96 and I would need to pay the difference to get it. X was the Memory expert and knew the exact laptop model I had. Oh, they would advance it before I returned the incorrect 128Meg. X said there was nothing else they could do (policy) but they would refund my $ if I returned the 128Meg chip.
20 days of waiting and I am not going any further. How do I know they will refund my $ anyway after the way they acted. I will begrudgingly live with half the memory I paid for - not what I wanted and not what I expected from this company. Is this good business? How much will this cost Memory Man in the long run?
Very Dissatisfied!
