I opted to apply for a next card visa in 1998. I had a great account with them until about 10/2001. I had received a letter stating that my card would no longer work as the company had gone under and I was to immediatly pay my balance. I had paid it, sent it off and it promptly returned to me, uncashed. When I called the company's phone number on their website, i got an answering machine. I never got a call back. I called many times to see where I could send my check to pay off my balance. I never got a response. At the time I was moving across the country and figured I would revisit this issue again when I settled. I kept calling the number until it was disconected. Then 2 years later I started getting harrassing phone calls from a collection agency. The customer service reps were rude, calling my children liars when they told them I wasn't home and would not budge on the deliquent fees or the huge interest rates. Now 9 years later, they still show up on my credit report as deliquent and that I cancelled the card. I cannot contact them to dispute this report nor do I even want to. I have record upon record of the phone conversations with these customer service reps.
